In this study, according to the Institut d'Estudis Catalan, it is noted that the traditional Catalan time telling system is essentially based on delineating time by the use of the 'quarts (=quarters)' of an hour. In this fasion, to tell the time 8:15, 8:30 and 8:45 they use '${\acute{E}}s$ un quart de nou.,' '$S{\acute{o}}n$ dos quarts de nou.,' and '$S{\acute{o}}n$ tres quarts de nou.,' but do not use constructions such as '$S{\acute{o}}n$ les vuit i quinze.,' '$S{\acute{o}}n$ les vuit i trenta/mitja.,' '$S{\acute{o}}n$ les vuit i quaranta-cinc.,' because these expressions are considered to be as dialectal variants or international notation-based variants. Moreover, the traditional Catalan time telling system does not use cardinal numbers, except in the case of 'cinc (five)' and 'deu (ten).' These linguistic phenomenon cause the invention of a unique Catalan digital watch, and has noted special designs for the creation of a Catalan analogue watch. For this reason, the quarter system in colloquial Catalan provokes an enormous interpretative ambiguity in daily routine expressions with 'quarts' like '$S{\acute{o}}n$ quarts of nou.' or 'entre dos i tres quarts' whose meaning is not delineated between sixteen and forty-four minutes. We will argue that the traditional Catalan time telling expressions do not have the use of the subtractive system, and the fraction word 'quart' lacks a specific meaning of fifteen minutes because the Catalan word 'quart' is etymologically related to the classical public bell system, not definitively to the traditional clock system.

Understanding the abundance and distribution of massive jellyfish is necessary to forecast where or when their blooms will happen. The acoustic technique is one of the most useful methods of obtaining information if the acoustic characteristics of the targets are known. This study was conducted to determine the acoustic target strength (TS, dB) of two jellyfish species, Aurelia aurita and Cyanea nozakii, in the southern coast of Korea. For the ex situ measurements, 120, 200, and 420 kHz split beam transducers were used, and jellyfish with various bell lengths were arranged to prepare multiple jellyfish. Under 2 vertical individuals, the mean TS for multiple A. aurita at 120, 200, and 420 kHz was -72.7, -71.7, and -68.2 dB, respectively. In the case of 5 vertical individuals, the mean TS of the species was -71.3, -68.2, and -62.0 dB. Finally, the mean TS of C. nozakii at 120, 200, and 200 kHz was -62.0, -60.3, and -58.2 dB under 2 individuals and -58.1, -57.4, and -54.0 dB under 4 individuals, respectively. For both species, higher numbers of jellyfish resulted in a higher TS. In addition, higher frequencies were associated with a higher TS for the same jellyfish. These TS results for two species can be used as essential data for the acoustic detection of jellyfish in an open ocean or coastal area.

Objectives The purpose of this review is to investigate studies of Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture and the evidence of it's effects in order to suggest a better research method in the future. Methods We retrieved numbers of clinical studies about Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture from 7 Korean web databases, using key words such as 'Scolopendrid', 'Scolopendrid AND Pharmacopuncture'. This study had been conducted from 1st May 2013 to 31th July 2013. Controlled studies and case studies were only used for this study. Clinical studies that we picked from the databases were classified according to the diseases that those studies are about, and from these clinical studies, we are to research what has to be improved generally in clinical researches. Results 18 case studies, 4 controlled studies had been under research. Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture has a therapeutic effect mainly in musculoskeletal and neurological diseases such as herniated intervertebral disc, carpal tunnel syndrome, swollen leg, feeling of cold on legs, wrist ganglion, lateral epicondylitis, radial nerve palsy, cervical myelopathy, cauda equina syndrome, postauricular pain; as an early symptom of Bell's palsy, pain of popliteal part, gout, plantar fasciitis, cellulitis, frozen shoulder, pain of hip adductors. However objectivity and reliability of the Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture studies still remains controversial. Conclusions It has been suggested that there are positive effects of Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture therapy in treating specific diseases (especially neuromusculoskeletal diseases). However, this narrative review can't conclude and prove that the Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture has positive effectiveness on these diseases unlike systematic review. So, in order to put Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture therapy to use for many kinds of diseases in more reasonable ways, it is essential to build well-designed clinical research tools. In the future, abundant case studies, more follow-up trials and randomized controlled trials based on the korean medicine should be done to use Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture for a clinical purpose.

One of the distinguishing features of late Jeosun's Hanshi (poem in Chinese) is the numerous creation of Yeonjachyung Keesokshi (serial poem on folklore) which describes the folk manner and folk way of life in detail. Keesokshi's subject matter is the folklike in general including local features, geography, climate, local production, humanity, social conducts, and daily labor for living as well. By its material characteristics, Keesokshi reflects detailed life conditions of the society members in each levels, and represents the local customs as well as the folk emotions. Among the several kinds of Keesokshis, a Sesi Keesokshi focuses only in reciting the folk customs on each seasonal festival days, and the great numbers of such serial poems appear during the latter part of the Jeosun Dynasty. Its overall background is the transition of artistic trend which came after many social changes such as expansion of realism, uprising national consciousness, shaken status system, and the rising of 'Jeosunsi' motives in the Hansi history. Moreover, each writer's various experiences and their interests in the reality and critical minds of common people contributed a crucial roll in creation of Sesi Keesokshi. 178 of the 584 remaining serial Sesi Keesokshi are written particularly about the folk customs in The Grand Full Moon Festival (the first full moon of a year by the lunar calendar). These Hanshis widely reflect the common ways of living by directly accepting the seasonal folk customs as the subject matters. Especially, close to the reality, these poems positively express the people's simple vigorous lives and create unrestrained lively image by describing the joys and sorrows of the folk existence along with their craving. Also, it is notable to have customs such as 'Shil-Ssa-Um' and 'No-gu-ban-kong-yang' as subjects for its rarity in other literatures.
