How has belief modality contributed to formal semantics?

  • Looking back the history of formal treatment of linguistics, we cannot disregard the contribution of possible world semantics. Intensional logic of Montague semantics, DRT (Discourse Representation Theory), mental space, and situation theory are closely related to or compared with the notion of possible world. All these theories have commonly clarified the structure of belief context or uncertain knowledge, employing hypothesized worlds. In this talk, I firstly brief the pedigree of these theories. Next, I will introduce the recent development of modal logic for the representation of (i) knowledge and belief and (ii) time, in which belief modality is precisely discussed together with the accessibility among possible worlds. I will refer to BDI (belief-desire-intention) logic, CTL (computational tree logic), and sphere-based model in belief revision. Finally, I will discuss how these theories could be applied to the further development of analyses of natural language.

  • A sensor fusion scheme for mobile robot environment recognition that incorporates range data and contour data is proposed. Ultrasonic sensor provides coarse spatial description but guarantees open space with no obstacle within sonic cone with relatively high belief. Laser structured light system provides detailed contour description of environment but prone to light noise and is easily affected by surface reflectivity. Overall fusion process is composed of two stages: Noise elimination and belief updates. Dempster Shafer´s evidential reasoning is applied at each stage.   • In this paper, we propose a probabilistic tabu search strategy for function optimization. It is composed of two procedures, one is Basic search procedure that plays a role in local search, and the other is Restarting procedure that enables to diversify search region. In basic search procedure, we use Belief space and Near region to create neighbors. Belief space is made of high-rank neighbors to effectively restrict searching space, so it can improve searching time and local or global searching capability. When a solution is converged in a local area, Restarting procedure works to search other regions. In this time, we use Probabilistic Tabu Strategy(PTS) to adjust parameters such as a reducing rate, initial searching region etc., which makes enhance the performance of searching ability in various problems. In order to show the usefulness of the proposed method, the PTS is applied to the minimization problems such as De Jong functions, Ackley function, and Griewank functions etc., the results are compared with those of GA or EP.

전통 마을 공동체 신앙의 공간적 해석 - 전통 문화마을 장흥군 방촌을 사례로 - (Spatial Analysis of Communal Folk Belief in Traditional Village - A Case Study on Bangchon Traditional Village -)

  • 인간에 의해 형성된 공동체와 그 공동체를 중심으로 이루어지는 독특한 신앙체계는 인간이 특정 지역을 점유하고 살아가면서 자연스럽게 발현된 하나의 공간적 행태라고 정리할 수 있다. 따라서 민간신앙의 하나인 공동체 신앙은 마을이라는 공간을 점유하고 발현되었다는 점에서 전통 사회 마을 구성원의 공간인식을 내재하고 있다고 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 우리나라 전통마을에 나타나는 공동체 신앙의 특성을 공간적 관c점에서 해석하는 것을 주목적으로 설정하였으며, 연구지역으로는 전통문화마을로 지정된 전라남도 장흥군 방촌마을을 사례로 하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째. 연구지역인 방촌마을은 내동, 계춘, 탑동, 호동. 호산, 산저, 신기의 7개 자연마을로 구성되어 있으며, 각각의 마을의 입지과정은 고려시대 이후 시공간적으로 차별성을 가지고 진행되어 왔다. 둘째, 방촌마을의 공동체 신앙은 크게 7개의 입석과 돌장승, 별신제터와 허제비골로 구분할 수 있다. 셋째. 방촌마을 공동체 신앙은 크게 마을과 마을의 경계 표시, 마을의 존재를 외부에 알리는 기능, 마을의 중심공간 표시, 마을의 입구와 외곽 경계 표시라는 공간적인 의미를 갖는 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 따라서 전통마을에 나타나는 공동체 신앙은 민속학적인 측면에서 해석하는 신앙과 상징이라는 의미 이외에. 과거 전통사회 자연마을의 공간구조를 파악하게 해주는 지시자 역할을 한다고 할 수 있다.

수의의 금기에 관한 고찰 (An Inquiry into the Taboo of the Burial Shroud)

  • Folk belief, which originated with the rise of human existence is a fundamental and comprehensive mode of living that reflects sociocultural conditions. Adherents of folk belief accept a certain thing to be true and real without scientific authority and absolute certainty. Taboo can be seen as a king of folk belief. The object of this study is to examine the taboos in relation to the manufacturing process and the quality of the shroud and to shrouding customs. I will also try to find out the meaning and significance in this. Through this task, I hope to contribute to the enhanced understanding of the cultural characteristics, the spiritual life, and the views on after life of the Korean people. In Korea, it is considered to be propitious to prepare the shroud on the intercalary month of the leap year , as it allows one to enjoy longevity healthy and sound. Moreover, as this belief gives credence and repose while preparing for the “final departure”, this custom is relatively well observed. From the taboo concerning leap months, we infer that death as viewed as a commencement of a new life, which reveals a positive view on afterlife. This can be seen as a return to the origin of anti-universal space in this “bonus” month of anti-universal time. Taboos on the manufacturing process of the shroud is related to the belief that it allows the deceased to go the nest world without any hesistation or disturbances. This symbolizes the immortality of the human soul: I. e. that the human spirit does not end in this world but continues on to the next. Taboos concerning the preparation process of the shroud as well as various other taboos are related to the belief that preparation for the shroud should be done in sincerity and secredness with a thoughtful consideration for the deceased. This can be perceived as an implication to sanctity for the dead.

가상현실공간에서 아바타를 통한 원격학습이 아바타 사용자의 교수효능감에 미치는 영향 (The effects of distance learning experiences through an avatar in a virtual world on users' distance teaching efficacy beliefs)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 가상현실공간에서 아바타를 이용한 원격강의 경험이 사용자의 교수효능감에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것이다. 이 연구를 위해 J대학교 교육학 전공 강좌의 수강생 9명이 연구에 참여하였다. 이들은 모두 교육학 전공의 박사과정 학생들이었다. 이 강좌의 첫 번째 강의에서 6시간 동안 세컨드라이프 사용법에 대해 면대면 강의가 이루어졌으며, 이후 3시간씩 14회의 강의는 모두 세컨드라이프 내 강의실에서 이루어졌다. 설문에 응한 5명의 참여자로부터의 성찰노트, 연구자 관찰 및 면담 내용을 분석한 결과, 세컨드라이프에서 아바타를 사용한 원격강의 수강과 발표 경험은 세컨드라이프에서 아바타를 사용한 원격 강의를 수행할 수 있는 자신감에 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 세컨드라이프라는 가상현실공간에서 아바타를 사용한 원격교육의 가능성을 확인하였다는 것에 의의가 있으며, 향후 원격 교육에 대한 연구를 촉진할 것으로 기대된다.

무속 공간모형에 의한 남사마을 공간 해석에 관한 연구 (An Interpretative Study on the Nam-Sa Village Space by Shamanistic Space Model)

  • Shamanism is an ancient culture that is also considered as a religious rite by most of people. So, shamanism is an important part of Korean tradition and should be a significant base to the Korean exterior space organization theme. However in the field of Landscape architecture th principle of exterior spacing has not yet clearly been identified as shamanistic. Therefore believe that this study can exhibit a model for the study of shaministic space language and its application to one of Korean's village Namsa. The results of this study are summarized below; 1. Extracted models are Unspecialized· Circular·Coninuous space. These are analyzed on the basis of the shaministic space language. Also shaministic space languages are based with Korean common belief of eternal human identify, circular view of the world. 2. Applying the shamanistic space models to Namsa village shows that shamanistic space models follow the Korean space organization principle. Some area of the village do not apply, because they were built on the structure of the social hierarchy between families or the difference between head households and collateral households. 3. Applying the shamanistic space model to Namsa village shows that the shamanistic space model follows the Korean space organization principle. Therefore can say that Namsa village was built by a shamanistic system that pursued eternal human identity.

  • The ecological theory of perception provides the human living, and meaning integrating norm to overcome the crisis caused by an eastern belief in human-centered wrong rationality formed at the past process of modernization. Prior to the overall consideration of ecological perception theory, looked into the concepts, contribution extent and its limitation of the existing perception theories for the environmental design. By experimentally applying inferred concepts of design to department bridge space and forming the space, certified the applicability of it to the green amenity space. The site Is located in Nowon- Gu Sangge- Dong. The design was processed on the basis of survey, plants growth environment and plants characters. It is expected that this design would serve the commercial space- consumer as a symbolic, environmentally friendly space design

조선시대 상류주택 실내공간의 디자인 개념에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Design Concept of Interior space in Korean Traditional Houses)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the design concepts embedded in our traditional interior space. The majority of this research was achieved through literature review as well as examining traditional Korean houses. The major findings were summarized as follows : First, traditional Korean interior space is contemplative. This is created possible by the careful placement of indispensable furnitures and accessaries resulting in an abundance of unoccupied space. Therefore, the room assumes a peaceful atmosphere which calms the mind and creates a tranquil setting. To enjoy the placidity of Korean interior space a humble demeanor and contemplative thought are required. Next, traditional Korean interior space is modest. This is created by the moderate proportions that do not challenge human scale. Traditional Korean interior space does not dominate its surroundings but rather conforms with them. This contrasts with traditional western houses which utilizes an overbearing scale sacrificing intimate space. Thirdly, traditional Korean interior space is raw. In other words, the materials used in house retain their self-evident natural state and are not artifically manipulated to hide their inherent properties. The fundamental conceptual belief that interior space should not defy nature but instead become part of it. Lastly, traditional Korean interior space is not decorative Rooms are not congested with frivolous aesthetics. Although this does not immediately attract the people's attention, eventually the interior space establishes a unique line of communication with them.

  • Walled town was located on the axis connecting symbolic places, which was a feng-shui lucky place of a mountain sits to the rear and a body of water sits to the front. It represents environmental development of cultural space by blend of folk belief, religion, social system, administration facilities and living culture buildings. Therefore it is sustainable cultural view connected of formed or formless religious view and artificial view(wall, government buildings, living houses, and cultivated land so on) in a nature landscape. Environmental design technique, enlarging its meaning and value of living to mental level was founded from space composition and settlement, which was constructed organized space of government and residence area of walled town within the wall for looking for lucky place(from best, better, and good places) in order to construct ecological network (天+地+人, 山+水+方位+人, 地理+生利+山水+人心) by outlook of space and settlement.
