Numerical study on the rate-dependent behavior of geogrid reinforced sand retaining walls

  • Time effect on the deformation and strength characteristics of geogrid reinforced sand retaining wall has become an important issue in geotechnical and transportation engineering. Three physical model tests on geogrid reinforced sand retaining walls performed under various loading conditions were simulated to study their rate-dependent behaviors, using the presented nonlinear finite element method (FEM) analysis procedure. This FEM was based on the dynamic relaxation method and return mapping scheme, in which the combined effects of the rate-dependent behaviors of both the backfill soil and the geosynthetic reinforcement have been included. The rate-dependent behaviors of sands and geogrids should be attributed to the viscous property of materials, which can be described by the unified three-component elasto-viscoplastic constitutive model. By comparing the FEM simulations and the test results, it can be found that the present FEM was able to be successfully extended to the boundary value problems of geosynthetic reinforced soil retaining walls. The deformation and strength characteristics of the geogrid reinforced sand retaining walls can be well reproduced. Loading rate effect, the trends of jump in footing pressure upon the step-changes in the loading rate, occurred not only on sands and geogrids but also on geogrid reinforced sands retaining walls. The lateral earth pressure distributions against the back of retaining wall, the local tensile force in the geogrid arranged in the retaining wall and the local stresses beneath the footing under various loading conditions can also be predicted well in the FEM simulations.

Free vibration analysis of a laminated trapezoidal plate with GrF-PMC core and wavy CNT-reinforced face sheets

  • This paper has focused on presenting vibration analysis of trapezoidal sandwich plates with 3D-graphene foam reinforced polymer matrix composites (GrF-PMC) core and FG wavy CNT-reinforced face sheets. The porous graphene foam possessing 3D scaffold structures has been introduced into polymers for enhancing the overall stiffness of the composite structure. Also, 3D graphene foams can distribute uniformly or non-uniformly in the plate thickness direction. The effective Young's modulus, mass density and Poisson's ratio are predicted by the rule of mixture. In this study, the classical theory concerning the mechanical efficiency of a matrix embedding finite length fibers has been modified by introducing the tube-to-tube random contact, which explicitly accounts for the progressive reduction of the tubes' effective aspect ratio as the filler content increases. The First-order shear deformation theory of plate is utilized to establish governing partial differential equations and boundary conditions for trapezoidal plate. The governing equations together with related boundary conditions are discretized using a mapping-generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method in spatial domain. Then natural frequencies of the trapezoidal sandwich plates are obtained using GDQ method. Validity of the current study is evaluated by comparing its numerical results with those available in the literature. It is explicated that 3D-GrF skeleton type and weight fraction, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) waviness and CNT aspect ratio can significantly affect the vibrational behavior of the sandwich structure. The plate's normalized natural frequency decreased and the straight carbon nanotube (w=0) reached the highest frequency by increasing the values of the waviness index (w).

토양 속 박테리아가 지하매설 X65 배관의 미생물 부식 거동에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Bacteria in Soil on Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion Behavior of Underground X65 Pipeline)

  • Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) occurring in underground buried pipes of API 5L X65 steel was investigated. MIC is a corrosion phenomenon caused by microorganisms in soil; it affects steel materials in wet atmosphere. The microstructure and mechanical properties resulting from MIC were analyzed by OM, SEM/EDS, and mapping. Corrosion of pipe cross section was composed of ① surface film, ② iron oxide, and ③ surface/internal microbial corrosive by-product similar to surface corrosion pattern. The surface film is an area where concentrations of C/O components are on average 65 %/16 %; the main components of Fe Oxide were measured and found to be 48Fe-42O. The MIC area is divided into surface and inner areas, where high concentrations of N of 6 %/5 % are detected, respectively, in addition to the C/O component. The high concentration of C/O components observed on pipe surfaces and cross sections is considered to be MIC due to the various bacteria present. It is assumed that this is related to the heat-shrinkable sheet, which is a corrosion-resistant coating layer that becomes the MIC by-product component. The MIC generated on the pipe surface and cross section is inferred to have a high concentration of N components. High concentrations of N components occur frequently on surface and inner regions; these regions were investigated and Na/Mg/Ca basic substances were found to have accumulated as well. Therefore, it is presumed that the corrosion of buried pipes is due to the MIC of the NRB (nitrate reducing bacteria) reaction in the soil.

Rich Se Nanoparticles Modified Mo-W18O49 as Enhanced Electrocatalyst for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

  • Herein a rich, Se-nanoparticle modified Mo-W18O49 nanocomposite as efficient hydrogen evolution reaction catalyst is reported via hydrothermal synthesized process. In this work, Na2SeSO3 solution and selenium powder are used as Se precursor material. The structure and composition of the nanocomposites are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), EDX spectrum analysis and the corresponding element mapping. The improved electrochemical properties are studied by current density, and EIS analysis. The as-prepared Se modified Mo-W18O49 synthesized via Na2SeSO3 is investigated by FE-SEM analysis and found to exhibit spherical particles combined with nanosheets. This special morphology effectively improves the charge separation and transfer efficiency, resulting in enhanced photoelectric behavior compared with that of pure Mo-W18O49. The nanomaterial obtained via Na2SeSO3 solution demonstrates a high HER activity and low overpotential of -0.34 V, allowing it to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm-2.

Using DQ method for vibration analysis of a laminated trapezoidal structure with functionally graded faces and damaged core

  • This paper has focused on presenting vibration analysis of trapezoidal sandwich plates with a damaged core and FG wavy CNT-reinforced face sheets. A damage model is introduced to provide an analytical description of an irreversible rheological process that causes the decay of the mechanical properties, in terms of engineering constants. An isotropic damage is considered for the core of the sandwich structure. The classical theory concerning the mechanical efficiency of a matrix embedding finite length fibers has been modified by introducing the tube-to-tube random contact, which explicitly accounts for the progressive reduction of the tubes' effective aspect ratio as the filler content increases. The First-order shear deformation theory of plate is utilized to establish governing partial differential equations and boundary conditions for the trapezoidal plate. The governing equations together with related boundary conditions are discretized using a mapping-generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method in spatial domain. Then natural frequencies of the trapezoidal sandwich plates are obtained using GDQ method. Validity of the current study is evaluated by comparing its numerical results with those available in the literature. After demonstrating the convergence and accuracy of the method, different parametric studies for laminated trapezoidal structure including carbon nanotubes waviness (0≤w≤1), CNT aspect ratio (0≤AR≤4000), face sheet to core thickness ratio (0.1 ≤ ${\frac{h_f}{h_c}}$ ≤ 0.5), trapezoidal side angles (30° ≤ α, β ≤ 90°) and damaged parameter (0 ≤ D < 1) are carried out. It is explicated that the damaged core and weight fraction, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) waviness and CNT aspect ratio can significantly affect the vibrational behavior of the sandwich structure. Results show that by increasing the values of waviness index (w), normalized natural frequency of the structure decreases, and the straight CNT (w=0) gives the highest frequency. For an overall comprehension on vibration of laminated trapezoidal plates, some selected vibration mode shapes were graphically represented in this study.

MPLS 망에서 차별화 된 서비스를 제공하기 위한 빠른 Multipoint-to-Point LSP 결정 방식 (A Fast Multipoint-to-Point LSP Traffic Engineering for Differentiated Service in MPLS Networks)

  • MPLS(Multiprotocol Label Switching) 망에서 LSP(Lable Switched Path)의 수와 레이블 수를 줄이는 것은 망의 자원 관리 측면에서 매우 중요하며, MTP(Multipoint-to-Point) LSP는 이러한 문제점을 해결할 수 있다. 트래픽 엔지니어링을 고려할 때, MTP LSP는 트래픽 부하의 균형을 통한 망의 가용성과 링크 사용율을 높이는 경로를 선택하여야 한다. 또한 링크 단절시의 재 경로 설정이 요구되므로 빠른 경로 결정 방법이 요구된다. 본 논문은 Diffserv를 지원하는 MPLS 망에서, Diffserv의 PHB(Per Hop Behavior)와 다중경로 MTP LSP간의 매핑을 통한 트래픽 엔지니어링을 제안한다. 제안하는 트래픽 엔지니어링은 서비스 특성에 따라 계층적인 MTP LSP의 다중 경로를 결정한다. Monte-Carlo 방법을 사용한 빠른 트래픽 부하 균형 해를 구함으로써, 망 형태 정보가 빈번히 변하는 대규모 망에서 신속한 재 경로 결정을 할 수 있다. 제안하는 MTP LSP의 경로 결정 방법은 알고리즘의 수행 정도에 따라 최적의 경로 결정에 접근한다. 경로 결정의 시간 복잡도는 O(Cn²logn)으로 기존의 다중 경로 결정 방법과 동일한 시간 복잡도를 가지며, 선형 프로그래밍 접근보다 빠른 수행 시간을 갖는다. 시뮬레이션 결과 제안하는 알고리즘은 망의 형태정보와 요구하는 트래픽 부하 균형에 따라 효과적으로 제어될 수 있음을 보이며, 또한 제안하는 트래픽 엔지니어링의 호 차단율과 대역폭 차단율을 비교함으로써 망의 가용성이 기존의 다중경로 설정보다 높음을 보인다.

Speeding Detection and Time by Time Visualization based on Vehicle Trajectory Data

  • The speed of vehicles has remained a significant factor that influences the severity of accidents and traffic accident rate in many parts of the world including South Korea. This behavior where drivers drive at speeds which exceed a posted safe threshold is known as 'speeding'. Over the past twenty years, the Korean National Police Agency (NPA) has become aware of an increased frequency of drivers who are speeding. Therefore, fixed-type ASE systems [1] have been installed on hazardous road sections of many highways. These system monitor vehicle speeds using a camera. However, the use of ASE systems has changed the behavior of the drivers. Specifically, drivers reduce speed or avoid the route where the cameras are mounted. It is not practical to install cameras at every possible location. Therefore, it is challenging to thoroughly explore the location where speeding occurs. In view of these problems, the author of this paper designed and implemented a prototype visualization system in which point and color are used to show vehicle location and associated over-speed information. All of this information was used to create a comprehensive visualization application to show information about vehicle driving. In this paper, we present an approach detecting vehicles moving at speeds which exceed a threshold and visualizing the points those violations occur on a map. This was done using vehicle trajectory data collected in Daegu city. We propose steps for exploring the data collected from those sensors. The resulting mapping has two layers. The first layer contains the dynamic vehicle trajectory data. The second underlying layer contains the static road networks. This allows comparing the speed of vehicles on roads with the known maximum safe speed of those roads, and presents the results with a visualization tool. We also compared data about people who drive over threshold safe speeds on each road on days and weekends based on vehicle trajectories. Finally, our study suggests improved times and locations where law enforcement should use monitoring with speed cameras, and where they should be stricter with traffic law enforcement. We learned that people will drive over the speed limit at midnight more than 1.9 times as often when compared with rush hour traffic at 8 o'clock in the morning, and 4.5 times as often when compared with traffic at 7 o'clock in the evening. Our study can benefit the government by helping them select better locations for installation of speed cameras. This would ultimately reduce police labor in traffic speed enforcement, and also has the potential to improve traffic safety in Daegu city.

선택적 촉매 환원법 재료로서 나노 사이즈 MnOx-CeO2/TiO2 촉매에 대한 미세 구조적 특성과 촉매활성 평가 (Microstructural property and catalytic activity of nano-sized MnOx-CeO2/TiO2 for NH3-SCR)

  • 저온용 SCR 촉매인 $MnO_x$의 촉매 활성을 높이기 위해 $TiO_2$ 지지체와 함께 조촉매로서 $CeO_2$을 사용하였고, 제조된 나노 사이즈의 촉매 특성과 함께 질소산화물 제거 효율에 대해 고찰하였다. $MnO_x-CeO_2/TiO_2$ 촉매 내에서 $CeO_2$ 거동을 확인하기 위해 단일 조성의 $CeO_2$와의 차이점을 미세구조적으로 비교 분석하였다. $MnO_x-CeO_2/TiO_2$ 촉매가 졸겔법을 통해 제조되었으며 낮은 열적 특성으로 인해 평균 $285{\mu}m$ 정도의 큰 입도를 가진 단일 $CeO_2$와는 달리 Ti 지지체와 함께 합성된 촉매의 경우 130 nm 정도로 줄어들었음을 확인하였다. 투과 전자 현경을 이용한 EDS mapping를 통해 Ce-Ti의 강한 interaction이 nano-sized powder 제조의 원인인 것으로 확인하였다. 조촉매 첨가로 인해 $MnO_x/TiO_2$ 촉매에 비해 저온영역에서 20 % 이상의 효율 향상이 있었으며 이는 3성분계 촉매 내에서 $CeO_2$가 나노 사이즈로 잘 분산됨에 따라 촉매 반응에 필요한 산소이온의 교환이 활발히 일어날 수 있었기 때문이다.

웹 이용행태에 따른 사용자분류 가능성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Possibility of User Classification by Web-Using Types)

  • 지금까지 사용성과 관련된 웹 이용행위에 대한 예측이나 분석은 사용자의 인구통계학적 특성이나 사용정황의 특성만으로 주로 설명되어 왔다. 그러나 그러한 특성만이 행위를 유발하늑 요인으로 볼 수 있는지, 그렇지 않다면 어떠한 요인이 있으며 또한 그러한 요인들은 행위에 어떠한 특성을 유발할 것인지에 대한 의문으로 본 연구를 진행하였다. 이는 사용자 중심의 사용자인터페이스(UI)디자인에서 사용자 특성을 정의하는데 중요한 요소로 활용되었던 사용자정보(User Profile)를 사용에 있어서의 특정유형과의 상관관계를 포함하는 사용자정보(User Profile)로 확장시킴으로써 구체적인 사용자인터페이스(UI)디자인에 적용될 수 있도록 하기 위함이다. 연구내용은 첫째, 다양한 미디어에 따른 사용자를 이해하고 기존의 사용자 분류 방법을 고찰한다. 둘째, 웹 이용행태에 따른 사용자 분류를 위한 사용자 분류변수 및 변수 측정 척도를 마련하고 사례 연구를 통해 사용자 행위 특성을 추출하여 특성에 따른 사용자를 분류한다. 셋째, 실험을 통해 수집된 데이터를 바탕으로 분류된 사용자 집단의 사용자정보(User Profile)의 특성을 밝혀 사용자정보(User Profile)의 특성이 유발하는 행위의 요인을 규명하기 위해 행위 특성과 사용자정보(User Profile)의 특성을 맵핑시켰다. 이를 통해 사용자의 이용행태에 따른 특성이 사용자정보(User Profile)특성 중 사용자의 일반 정보와 사용정황 뿐 아니라 개인성향이나 매체 사용태도와 성격유형 등도 영향을 끼칠 수 있다는 가능성을 발견할 수 있었다. 실험 설계상의 몇 가지의 문제점들이 발견되었으나 이를 개선하고 보완한다면 좀 더 명확한 사용행위에 따른 사용자정보(User Profile)특성을 추출할 수 있을 것이다. 따라서 사용자정보(User Profile) 특성으로도 사용자의 행위 유형을 예측할 수 있어 사용자 분류를 활용한 사용자인터페이스(UI)디자인의 가능성을 확대시킬 수 있을 것이다.
