Will My Customers Come Back? A Study of Beauty Salons in Taiwan

  • Purpose - The beauty salon industry is a highly competitive market. Every beauty salon shop aims to keep its customers satisfied and hopes that they will revisit several times. Hence, this paper investigates the key factors affecting the repurchase intention of consumers in the beauty salon industry in Taiwan. Research design, data, and methodology - We first use the content analysis of free-response narratives from beauticians to classify the key factors objectively and develop the questionnaire accordingly. We then distribute the questionnaire to 130 beauty salon consumers to complete the questionnaire. Next, the Grey Relation Analysis is employed to identify the key factors that affect the repurchase intention of consumers in the beauty salon industry. Results - From the perspectives of the beauty salon customers, the factors affecting the repurchase intention of consumers are (1) obvious treatment results, (2) the treatment space considers personal privacy, (3) the offer of promotional prices for treatment/product trials, and (4) the product knowledge of the beauticians. From the perspectives of the beauticians, the factors include (1) the treatment space is well-designed and makes the customers feel relaxed, (2) enhancement of the customer relationship, (3) the treatment space considers personal privacy, and (4) the positive service attitude of the beauticians. Conclusions - We analyze all the key factors and offer some suggestions as a conclusion.

  • 현대 산업사회의 급속적인 발달로 인한 경제적, 물질적 풍요로움은 다양한 문화산업의 발달은 물론, 뷰티산업의 발전을 가져다주었다. 이처럼 뷰티산업은 TV, 광고, 패션잡지, 영화 등의 대중매체의 성장과 더불어 새로운 뷰티 트렌드를 빠르게 대중에게 확대, 형성해 가고 있다. 메이크업 또한 뷰티 트렌드와 함께 지속적으로 변화하고 다양한 표현기법의 활용으로 그 예술적 영역이 더욱 확대되고 있다. 이는 곧 메이크업 일러스트레이션에도 영향을 주어 그 역할이 점차 강조되어 현대 문화의 상황 속에서 대중과의 커뮤니케이션이라는 해석이 확대되면서 새로운 예술의 개념으로 인식되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 뷰티 산업과 대중간의 '유행정보 교환'이라는 중요한 역할을 담당하고 있는 메이크업 일러스트레이션의 다양한 이미지 표현 방법을 분석하여 예술적 가치를 높이고자 하였다. 또한 컴퓨터 그래픽을 활용한 메이크업 일러스트레이션을 제작하여 앞으로의 창작, 연구 활동에 유용한 자료가 되기를 기대한다.

미용업종사자의 미용기기 사용에 대한 분쟁해결과 정책적 과제 (Conflict resolution and political tasks on the usage of beauty care devices by beauty artists)

  • In contemporary society interest in and consumption of beauty treatment are increasing, raising interest in health and beauty. However, beauty-related laws are becoming factors of hindrance of beauty development. Currently the Public Health Control Act plays a basic role in the beauty art business in Korea, However the contents are in discord with international laws and its definition is not clear. Therefore it is causing conflicts of different occupations and job associations which are similar to art business. Especially, because neither definitions nor policies on beauty care devices exist in the Public Health Control Act, beauty care devices using in foreign countries cannot be used in Korea due to classification as medical devices. Under this circumstance, therefore, beauty care device uses by beauty artists violate the law. The government has tried to solve these irrational regulations. Recently, the Small and Medium Business Administration announced 'the improvement plan of small business and young founders site regulation for public economy recovery' in a ministerial meeting on December 28, 2016. Regulations on policy preparation for skincare devices were inclusive in this announcement. It is the question whether the regulations will be executed or not. Even though beauty industrial competitiveness was presented in the 18th Presidential Council on National Competitiveness in 2009, it was not practiced. The proposal bills for beauty law improvement have been put forth several times since 2000 including an improvement plan for regulating beauty care devices. However, so far there have been no improvements. The damage on the regulation classifying beauty devices as medical devices is not only restricted to skincare. This develops beauty devices and the beauty industry which imports and exports beauty devices. When beauty devices are exported, complicated procedures are unavoidable and when beauty devices are imported, irrational problems like reregistration procedures and costs occur. The reason why an improvement plan has not gone into practice is the resistance of the dermatologists' association. Dermatologists tend to stand positively against harming public health by saying that beauty devices used by beauty artists cause people to suffer side effects. In contrast, anyone who has a licence to use beauty devices is able to use them in foreign countries. It is not only infringement of one's right as a beauty artist but also people's right to receive beauty care services. With this reason, Korean's current law under which beauty devices are ruled as medical devices should be revised with accordance to domestic surroundings. Therefore in order to advance and globalize the beauty industry, the support and cooperation of the Korean government and relevant associations is needed to legislate and revise the beauty devices laws. The relevant associations abandon regional self-centeredness and cooperate to define ranges, size and management of beauty devices for safe use. If no collaboration exists, an arbitration agency should be established to solve the problem.

뷰티 관리 프로그램을 활용한 뷰티 테라피의 심리적 효과 분석 (Analysis of the psychological effects of beauty therapy using beauty management programs)

  • The aim of this study was to determine the therapeutic effects of beauty care on negative mental health, including stress and depression. Nail care, massage care, and makeup were used as programs for beauty therapy. Qualitative research was conducted with six female participants over five-month period. After interviewing the subjects in advance, beauty care treatments were performed every week 4 weeks in the following order: nail care, massage, and makeup. The results are as follows, First, the participants perceived beauty care in the form of 4 concepts: "courtesy in social life," "investment in oneself," "self-satisfaction," and "self-care." Second, the effects of beauty therapy were categorized as "psychological effects," "confidence," "behavioral changes," "evaluation of others," and "positive social effects." Third, each subject showed different psychological effects during the process when the function of the therapy took effect through the beauty care treatment. It was confirmed that confidence levels increased as a result of treatment through the process of becoming re-aware of oneself. Positive statements from the participants included: "I want to go out," "I have become kind and positive to others," "I have become more active in a given task," and "It seems that my work ability is improving." Finally, t-test results for self-esteem, depression, and stress showed there were significant differences in self-esteem and depression. This confirmed that self-esteem increased, and depression decreased after the beauty care treatment.

두피 및 모발 관리에 대한 인식 조사 (A Study on the Awareness of Scalp and Hair Treatment)

  • This study was designed to measure customer awareness about their own scalp and hair treatment based on survey, through the theoretical background of scalp physiology field by considering scalp and hair treatment. This was to provide a principal data about scalp and hair treatment for the beauty industry. Also, the data about the awareness of customers will be used to search for a direction far basic beauty services in the scalp and hair treatment field. Four hundred customers in beauty parlors, dermatology clinics, skin care institutes, and scalp institutes, living in the North Cheolla Province were surveyed. They were 25 years old and over. The surveys were performed over a period of ten days from November 18th to 28th in 2005. The collected data was analyzed by SPSS. Frequency and percentage were used to draw typical feature of subjects. Chi-square test, frequencies, t-test and One-way ANOVA were performed to consider awareness of customers for hair treatment as well as hair character and scalp hair. This study was able to estimate the awareness of customers by putting together between the recognition of scalp based on the special quality of hair and the recognition of hair and scalp treatment. In conclusion, the scalp and hair did not act independently. In order to have healthy hair, one must posses a healthy, and physiologically sound scalp. In order for beauticians to properly serve their clientele who require hair and scalp treatment, one must be able to comprehend and understand the field of scalp and hair treatment.

Effects of scalp treatment using combinational massage technique on human physiology

  • The purposes of this study are to measure physiological reactions of human body according to the scalp treatment, a popularized service in beauty care industry and propose efficient ways of scalp treatment. To meet the goals, total 30 applicants without any medical history(5 males and 5 females in 20's, 30's and 40's respectively) were informed on the purpose of experiment hereof and were investigated and received a 30-minute scalp treatment, which combines standardized scalp treatment massage technique proposed by KAT and ITF with another massage technique operated in the beauty salon run by the author of this paper. 5ml of blood samples were taken from each subject before and after the scalp treatment respectively and the blood sample was divided into 3 different tubes for analysis: 1) 2 ml for blood cell analysis, 2) 2ml for enzyme activity measurement, 3) 1ml for hormone level reading. In order to determine effects of scalp treatment on ALP, GOT, GPT, ${\gamma}-GTP$, WBC, RBC, Hb, Hct, Platelet, MCV, MCH and MCHC, all collected data were used for measuring respective levels of these blood substances by means of enzyme reaction measurement, enzyme activity measurement and automated hematology analyzer. Then, all measured data were analyzed through paired t-test using SPSS WIN 11.5. As a result, the scalp treatment is associated with improving hepatic function, facilitating blood circulation and helping blood coagulation and hemostasis in a effective way. Therefore, it would be necessary to conduct further studies on this subject related to anemia in the future.

실버세대 헤어 미용업의 서비스품질과 고객충성도에 대한 관계성 연구: 관계품질을 중심으로 (Research on the Relationship between the Service Quality and Customer Loyalty of the Hair Beauty Industry for the Silver Generation : With a Focus on Relationship Quality)

  • 고령화 사회의 실버세대는 새로운 소비자군으로 급부상하여 실버고객들이 이용하는 서비스 산업이 발전할 것이다. 그 중에서도 미용서비스 분야는 실버세대들에게 삶의 질적 향상을 위하여 반드시 필요한 분야이다. 본 연구는 실버세대의 미용서비스 품질 형성요인을 알아보고 고객충성도와의 관계성을 알아보기 위하여 서울지역에 거주하고 있는 244명의 실버 세대들을 대상으로 분석을 실시하였다. 실증분석을 위한 통계처리는 SPSS 23.0과 AMOS 23.0 통계 프로그램을 활용하였다. 분석결과, 미용서비스를 이용하는 실버고객이 인지하는 서비스품질은 관계품질인 신뢰와 몰입에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 관계품질인 신뢰와 몰입은 고객충성도에 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 서비스품질과 고객충성도의 관계에서 신뢰는 신뢰성, 반응성, 공감성, 확신성에서 매개효과가 있었고, 몰입은 신뢰성, 반응성, 공감성, 확신성, 유형성에서 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 실버세대를 위한 실버 전용 미용서비스 산업과 그와 관련된 교육 프로그램이 미미한 실정에서 실버세대를 위한 미용산업이 중요한 자리매김을 할 수 있는 기초자료를 제시하는 데에 큰 의의가 있다.

헤어 트리트먼트제로서 단풍잎 추출물 컬러링 모발의 역학적 변화분석 (Analysis of epidemiological change of hair colored Acer palmatum Leaves extract as hair treatment product)

  • 외모의 중요성이 날로 증가하는 사회적 분위기 속에서 현대인의 아름다움에 대한 노력과 욕구는 더욱 활성화하고 다양해지고 있으며 이러한 영향으로 인해 뷰티미용 산업은 점점 세분화, 전문화되는 추세이다. 현대인의 과도한 퍼머넌트 웨이브나 헤어 컬러링으로 말미암아 모발 손상은 불가피한 현실인데 모발이 손상될수록 모표피가 벗겨져서 탈락하면서 인장력도 감소하여 헤어스타일링이나 펌 이후 만족도도 상대적으로 감소한다. 따라서 손상 모발에 대한 관리는 필요하지만 시중에 유통 중인 헤어 트리트먼트제는 인공합성 제품이 대부분을 차지하고 있어 인체에 유용한 항산화 물질을 함유한 헤어 트리트먼트 제품 개발이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 단풍잎 추출물을 컬러링 한 모발의 역학적 변화에 미치는 영향을 분석하여 단풍잎의 손상 모발 회복과 모발 건강 개선을 위한 헤어 트리트먼트제 원료로서의 가능성을 연구하였다. 본 연구는 향후 천연물을 활용한 모발 미용제품 개발을 위한 기초 자료로 활용되리라 사료한다.

20-40대(代) 여성(女性)의 외모관심도(外貌觀心度)에 따른 외모관리행동(外貌管理行動) (A Research of Apperance-mnagement Bhavior in 20-40's women according to Degree of Apperance Concern)

  • This study is to research how women aging from 20 through 40 Apperance -Mnagement Bhavior and care of their outer looks from a beauty treatment perspective. This research should help satisfy the wants of women who are the main clients of the beauty products and help the beauty industry to produce new products and also to help out on their marketing strategy. In order to search the general characteristics of our target women, Frequency Analysis was used, to find out the sub-factor of interest in beauty Factor Analysis and Reliability Analysis was used. In order to divide the group according to Degree of Apperance Concern 'sub-factor, cluster analysis, analysis of variance, Scheffe'-test, $X^2-test$ was used, and to find out the difference on how they care of beauty analysis of variance was used, and further more to summarize the result of analysis of variance Scheffe'-test was used. As a result, in all different ways of beauty caring, weight resisting, skin care and plastic surgery summed up similarly among the self-care group, hair care ended up with similar results among all three groups: self-caring group, no interest in beauty at all group, and the too conscious of other eyes group, and results on the interest rate of clothing ended up similarly among the other-eye conscious group, beauty care interest group, and the self-care group.

의사소통장애인의 조음치료를 위한 한국형 전자구개도의 구현 (Preliminary study of Korean Electro-palatography (EPG) for Articulation Treatment of Persons with Communication Disorders)

  • Recently, the development of rehabilitation medical technology has resulted in an increased interest in speech therapy equipment. In particular, research on articulation therapy for communication disorders is being actively conducted. Existing methods for the diagnosis and treatment of speech disorders have many limitations, such as traditional tactile perception tests and methods based on empirical judgment of speech therapists. Moreover, the position and tension of the tongue are key factors of speech disorders with regards to articulation. This is a very important factor in the distinction of Korean characters such as lax, fortis, and aspirated consonants. In this study, we proposed a Korean electropalatography (EPG) system to easily measure and monitor the position and tension of the tongue in articulation treatment and diagnosis. In the proposed EPG system, a sensor was fabricated using an AgCl electrode and biocompatible silicon. Furthermore, the measured signal was analyzed by implementing the bio-signal processing module and monitoring program. In particular, the bio-signal was measured by inserting it into the palatal from an experimental control group. As a result, it was confirmed that it could be applied to clinical treatment in speech therapy.
