탄소 표면경화처리 구름베어링의 유효 경화 깊이에 대한 고찰 (Study on Effective Case Depth for Case Hardened Rolling Bearings)

  • The effective case depth for case-hardened rolling bearing has been discussed. For this purpose, rolling contact fatigue tests for ball bearings built with inner race of various hardness values were conducted until L10 calculating rating life using a bearing life test machine under radial loading. Then, the distribution of residual stress below the inner raceway, which depended on the hardness value, was measured by X-ray diffraction. As a result, the linear relationship was established between the hardness value of the inner race and the theoretical shear stress evaluated at the depth where the residual stress disappeared below the inner raceway. Based on the relationship, it could be found that the factor of safety in bearing manufacturer’s rules for the effective case depth of case hardened rolling bearings was set higher. However, it could be also found that the hardness values at the depth where the maximum shearing stress acted below the raceway surface in a tapered roller bearing hardened by the carburizing process, were not sufficient for preventing plastic deformation under the basic dynamic load rating. Consequently, further efforts were still required to reduce or to disperse the contact load on the material design of a rolling bearing in order to prolong its life.

쇼트피닝 처리를 한 베어링강의 고사이클 피로수명 및 파괴거동 (High Cyclic Fatigue Life and Fracture Behaviors of Shot-Peened Bearing Steel)

  • 쇼트피닝(shot-peening) 처리를 한 베어링강의 고사이클 피로거동을 연구하였다. 열처리한 베어링강(JISSUJ2) 시험편과 열처리 후 쇼트피닝 표면가공을 추가한 시험편을 사용해 회전굽힘피로시험을 수행하고 파단 된 시험편의 파면을 분석하였다. 시험편의 피로파괴는 표면 결함에서 비롯된 표면 파괴와, 내부의 비금속개 재물에서 비롯된 내부형 파괴의 두 종류로 발생하였다. 내부 파괴의 경우 비금속 개재물 주변에 어안(fisheye) 모양의 파괴양식이 관찰되었다. 개재물은 표면으로부터의 깊이와 형상에 따라 피로 수명에 큰 영향을 주었다. 쇼트피닝 가공을 한 베어링강은 저사이클 하중영역 및 고사이클 하중영역에서 모두 피로수명이 향상되었으며, 하중이 작아질수록 피로수명의 개선은 더욱 커졌다. 또한 2 모수 와이블(Weibull) 분포를 이용하여 베어링강의 확률-응력-수명 (P-S-N) 곡선을 구하여 신뢰도 높은 피로수명 예측을 하였다.

WS$_2$ 고체윤활제의 양산 및 적용 (Mass-production of WS$_2$ Solid Lubricant and Its applications)

  • The processing conditions for the mass production of platelet WS$_2$ lubricant powder were optimized. The mixture of tungsten and sulfur powders was sealed in a vacuum of 10$^{-3}$ torr and heat-treated at 850$\circ$C for 2 h. The internal pressure of reaction chamber was maintained at certain level by controlling the release valve automatically. The reaction product was the platelet WS$_2$ powder with an average size of 15 $\mu$m. The synthesized WS$_2$ powder was then coated on the wiper-blade of automobiles and the commercial deep-grooved ball bearing using wet and dry coating methods, respectively. High lubricity and wear resistance of wet coated wiper-blade were confirmed by the life test of 70,000 cycles. The life-time of the ball bearing assembled after WS$_2$ coating onto each part increased 50 times compared to the non-coated ball bearing.

  • Elastomeric bearing is used as one of the most useful way for isolation structures, because the horizontal stiffness is much lower than the vertical stiffness. The quality of Elastomeric bearing depends on the vulcanization procedure to manufacture, which produces the elasticity of the rubber from the compound of rubber and sulphur. The durability of Elastomeric bearing is affected by the deterioration due to ozone and ultra-violet attack. but the durability during the design life of bridges can be assured by the sufficient size of the bearing in spite of the deterioration in surface. In the design criteria of Elastomeric bearing, the stability of the bearings is evaluated by shear strain due to compression, lateral displacement, and rotation. The question how soft rubber can sustain heavy structure is now able to be solved by Ultimate capacity test of Laminated elastomeric Bearings, which results 1,200kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ of the max. compressive stress and this shows what a sufficient safety factor Elastomeric bearing has!

  • This study was performed to develop accelerated life test method of the wind-turbine gearbox using accumulated damage theory that used to model the fatigue of parts that receive variable load. The accumulated damage theory was introduced, and the estimation of life and calculation of accelerated life test time was illustrated. As the actual application example, accelerated life test method of the gearbox was described. Life distribution of the wind-turbine gearbox was supposed to follow Weibull distribution and life test time was calculated under the conditions of average life (MTBF) 140,600 hours and 99% reliability for one test sample According to the accumulated damage theory, because test time can shorten in case increase test load, test time could be reduced by 1.2 years when we put the load 1.2 times of rated load than 0.93 times of rated load that is equivalent load calculated by load spectrum of the wind turbine. This time, acceleration coefficient was 21.3. This accelerated test method was used to develop accelerated test method of gear reducer, gear and bearing as well as the industrial gearbox and it is considered to be applied comprehensively to mechanical parts the fatigue of which is happened by load or pressure etc.

누적손상이론을 이용한 기계류부품의 가속수명시험법 개발 (Development of Accelerated Life Test Method for Machanical Parts Using Cumulative Damage Theory)

  • This study was performed to develop accelerated life test method of machanical parts using cumulative damage theory that used to model the fatigue of parts that receive variable load. The cumulative damage theory was introduced, and the estimation of life and calculation of accelerated life test time was illustrated. As the actual application example, accelerated life test method of agricultural tractor transmission was described. Life distribution of agricultural tractor transmission was supposed to follow Weibull distribution and life test time was calculated under the conditions of average life (MTBF) 3,000 hours and 90% reliability for one test sample. According to the cumulative damage theory, because test time can shorten in case increase test load, test time could be reduced by 482 hours when we put the load 1.1 times of rated load than 0.73 times of rated load that is equivalent load calculated by load spectrum of the agricultural tractor. This time, acceleration coefficient was 11.7. This accelerated test method was used to develop accelerated test method of gear reducer, hydraulic hose and bearing as well as agricultural tractor transmission and it is considered to be applied comprehensively to machanical parts the fatigue of which is happened by load or pressure etc.

건축용 비내력 경량벽체의 내충격성 시험방법의 표준화 (Standardization of Impact Test Methods of Non-bearing Lightweight Wall for Building)

  • The use of non-bearing light weight wall has increased recently due to the increase of high-rise buildings and supply of long-life housing. Light weight wall has advantages such as reducing the self-weight of the building, convenience in installation, and shortening construction period, however, must have a sufficient strength to external force. This study standardized the impact resistance test method for light weight walls by using the actual impact load obtained through load analysis test in previous studies. The impact resistance test method was divided into the test method that uses soft body and the one that uses hard body. The size of specimen was set up as height 2.4m and width 3.0m. The size and shape of the body followed those used in BS 5234-2 and so on for the compatibility with the test method used overseas. The judgment criteria for impact resistance based on test results were not defined uniformly as the assessment of functional damage can vary depending on the type of material, structural method, purpose of wall, and so on even when the same impact load was applied.

  • 테이퍼롤러 베어링은 축하중과 반경방향 하중이 동시에 인가되는 회전기계의 핵심 부품으로, 자동차 입력축과 출력축의 지지 베어링 등에 주로 사용되고 있다. 특히, 변속기에 사용되는 테이퍼롤러 베어링의 경우 조립시에 축방향 과다 예압이 인가된 상태로 조립된 경우 베어링의 수명이 단축되는 결과를 가져올 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 테이퍼롤러 베어링의 축방향 과다 예압에 의한 수명 단축 효과를 실험적으로 검증하고 그 결과에 의한 베어링의 수명 분포를 분석하였다. 또한, 기존의 $L_{10}$ 수명식에 비하여 현장 작동 조건에 따른 실질적인 수명을 산출할 수 있는 축방향과 반경방향을 고려한 수명식을 도출하고 이를 프로그램화 하여 설계 및 생산 현장에서 용이하게 활용할 수 있도록 하였다.

This study standardized the stiffness (static horizontal load resistance) test method for lightweight walls by using the actual impact load obtained through the load analysis test conducted in the previous studies. The size of specimen was set up as height 2.4m and width 3.0m. Test apparatus and test methods were referred to BS 5234-2:1992. However, the loading level applied to the specimen was divided into 3 steps (3000N, 1000N, 500N) that can be applied selectively depending on the purpose of the wall. The deformation characteristics according to the same loading level were vary depending on the specimen's type, and the evaluation criteria for functional damage may vary depending on the material, method of construction, and purpose of wall. Therefore, we did not suggest unified evaluation criteria of the stiffness to the test results.

고탄소 크롬 베어링 강에서의 잔류 오스테나이트 변화에 따른 회전접촉 피로거동 (A Behavior of Rolling Contact Fatigue on Retained Austenite in High-Carbon Chromium Bearing Steel)

  • In order to study the effect of retained austenite on rolling contact fatigue in high-carbon chromium bearing steel, retained austenite was controlled by only tempering temperature, individually 200, 220 and $240^{\circ}C$. Among various microstructural alteration during rolling contact fatigue test, plate-like carbide most related to the flaking at sub-surface of contact pressure. The plate-like carbides formed during rolling contact fatigue test decrease with increasing tempering temperature, and fatigue life is much more improved. The retained austenite was decreased with the tempering temperature, and that decreased plate-like carbide formation. Therefore fatigue life is much more improved with decreasing retained austenite.
