Development of Auto-Tuning Geomagnetic Compass (자동 자기 왜곡보정 방위센서 개발)

  • The need for position information in agriculture is gradually increasing for precise control farm vehicle and effective manage farm land. Though geomagnetic sensor has a lot of merits in estimating heading angle of vehicle because of low costs and sensing ability of magnetic north, it is easy that sensor outputs are distorted in electro magnetic field environment. This study was conducted to develop geomagnetic compass which could be available in measuring relative position from reference point correcting output distorted by external electro magnetic field in a small scale field. Magnetic inducing sensor (PNI's Vector2X) which wound enamel coated copper coil on ferrite core in order to measure and correct earth magnetic field. Magnetic azimuth was corrected using the algorithm which estimated amount of magnetic distortion from the difference between each outputs of magnetic sensors that located on the cross shaped base. Developed auto-tuning magnetic sensor was showed less then 5% as bearing accuracy in the strong magnetic field.

Dry sliding wear behavior of plain low carbon dual phase steel by strain hardening and oxidation (가공경화와 산화층 형성에 의한 이상조직 저탄소강의 건식 미끄럼 마멸 거동)

  • Dry sliding wear behavior of low carbon dual phase steel, of which microstructure consists of hard martensite in a ductile ferrite matrix, has been investigated. The wear characteristics of the dual phase steel was compared with that of a plain carbon steel which was normalized at $950^{\circ}C$ for 30min and then air-cooled. Dry sliding wear tests were carried out using a pin-on-disk type tester at various loads of 1N to 10N under a constant sliding speed condition of 0.2m/sec against an AISI 52100 bearing steel ball at room temperature. The sliding distance was fixed as 1000m for all wear tests. The wear rate was calculated by dividing the weight loss measured to the accuracy of $10^{-5}g$ by the specific gravity and sliding distance. The worn surfaces and wear debris were analyzed by SEM, EDS and a profilomter. Micro vickers hardness values of the cross section of worn surface were measured to analyze strain hardening behavior underneath the wearing surfaces. The were rate of the dual phase steel was lower than the plain carbon steel. Oxidation on the sliding surface and strain hardening were attributed for the higher wear resistance of the dual phase steel.

  • In this research, We connect the terrestrial magnetism sensor of the Philips to a bluetooth communication system and measured 360 degree of the azimuth change the angle with an incline of 5 degrees to an order direction. The value of the azimuth to be measured sent to the Bluetooth communication system and analyzed the measuring value in the 100m as moved. Using the bluetooth, we could send the measuring value of the azimuth without the bearing error in the plain without an electric wave obstacle within a distance in straight line 100M. We got the value of the azimuth have 98% reliability to maintain at a level with the terrestrial magnetism sensor. Based on this research. We send the measuring value of the azimuth which the accuracy is improved to a mobile intelligent robot moving a land inclined equipped with this system and can track the azimuth of it.

  • This paper highlights results of some experimental work that deals with strengthening of bolted shear joints in thin-walled ferrocement structure where steel wires, bent into U-shape are considered as simple inserts around the bolt hole. The parameters investigated include the number of layers of wire mesh, edge distance of bolt hole, size and location of the inserts. Test results have shown that for small edge distance, failure occurred either in cleavage or shearing mode, and the strength of the joint increased with an increase in the edge distance. This continued up to an upper limit set by either tension or bearing failure. The experimental study further revealed that for a given edge distance the strength of a joint can significantly be enhanced by using U-inserts. The equations developed for predicting joint strength in ferrocement composites can also be modified to include the effects of the inserts with a good level of accuracy.

  • A frictionless positioning device using cone-shaped active magnetic bearings(AMBs) is developed, which is driven by a brushless DC motor equipped with resolver. The cone-shaped AMB feature that the structure is simple and yet the five d.o.f. rotor motion is controlled by four magnet pairs. A linearized dynamic model, which accounts for the relationship between input voltage and output current in the cone-shaped magnet, is developed and the azimuth motion of the frictionless positioning device is modeled as the second order system. The feedback controller is designed by using linear quadratic regulator with integral action optimal control law so that the cone-shaped AMB system is stabilized and the frictionless positioning device gets the zero steady state. It is observed that the linearized dynamic model is adequate and the frictionless positioning device can achieve the tracking accuracy within the sensor resolution.

3D-printing Bone Model for Surgical Planning of Corrective Osteotomy for Treatment of Medial Patellar Luxation in a Dog

  • A 2-year-old, castrated male Chihuahua dog was referred for revision surgery for reluxation of the patella following surgery for medial patellar luxation (MPL) of the left stifle joint. On general inspection, the patient showed bilateral hindlimb weight-bearing lameness. On physical examination, bilateral non-reducible MPL was detected through palpation. Radiographs revealed bone deformities of both hindlimbs. Computed tomography (CT) was applied for a three-dimensional (3D) printing bone model to establish an accurate surgical plan. The bone plate was pre-contoured over the 3D-printing bone model after execution of corrective osteotomy and sterilized prior to use in surgery. Corrective osteotomy was performed through a staged, bilateral procedure. The patient showed improvement of limb function following surgery without reluxation of the patella. The use of 3D-printing bone model for accurate surgical planning of corrective osteotomy appears to be effective in increasing the accuracy of surgery. That may lead to successful surgical outcomes.

The wear characteristics of the UFG dual phase steel was compared with that of a coarse grained dual phase steel under various applied load conditions. Dry sliding wear test were carried out using a pin-on-disk type tester at various loads of 1N to 100N under a constant sliding speed condition of 0.20m/s against an AISI 52100 bearing steel ball at room temperature. The sliding distance was fixed as 1000m for all wear tests. The wear rate was calculated by dividing the weight loss, measured to the accuracy of 10-5g by the specific gravity and sliding distance. The worn surfaces and wear debris were analyzed by SEM, EDS and profilometer. Micro-vickers hardness of the cross section of worn surfaces were conducted to analyze strain hardening underneath the contact surfaces. The wear mechanism of the UFG dual phase steel was investigated with emphasis on the unstable nature of the grain boundaries of the UFG microstructure.

A Risk Classification Based Approach for Android Malware Detection

  • Existing Android malware detection approaches mostly have concentrated on superficial features such as requested or used permissions, which can't reflect the essential differences between benign apps and malware. In this paper, we propose a quantitative calculation model of application risks based on the key observation that the essential differences between benign apps and malware actually lie in the way how permissions are used, or rather the way how their corresponding permission methods are used. Specifically, we employ a fine-grained analysis on Android application risks. We firstly classify application risks into five specific categories and then introduce comprehensive risk, which is computed based on the former five, to describe the overall risk of an application. Given that users' risk preference and risk-bearing ability are naturally fuzzy, we design and implement a fuzzy logic system to calculate the comprehensive risk. On the basis of the quantitative calculation model, we propose a risk classification based approach for Android malware detection. The experiments show that our approach can achieve high accuracy with a low false positive rate using the RandomForest algorithm.

Krylov subspace-based model order reduction for Campbell diagram analysis of large-scale rotordynamic systems

  • This paper focuses on a model order reduction (MOR) for large-scale rotordynamic systems by using finite element discretization. Typical rotor-bearing systems consist of a rotor, built-on parts, and a support system. These systems require careful consideration in their dynamic analysis modeling because they include unsymmetrical stiffness, localized nonproportional damping, and frequency-dependent gyroscopic effects. Because of this complex geometry, the finite element model under consideration may have a very large number of degrees of freedom. Thus, the repeated dynamic analyses used to investigate the critical speeds, stability, and unbalanced response are computationally very expensive to complete within a practical design cycle. In this study, we demonstrate that a Krylov subspace-based MOR via moment matching significantly speeds up the rotordynamic analyses needed to check the whirling frequencies and critical speeds of large rotor systems. This approach is very efficient, because it is possible to repeat the dynamic simulation with the help of a reduced system by changing the operating rotational speed, which can be preserved as a parameter in the process of model reduction. Two examples of rotordynamic systems show that the suggested MOR provides a significant reduction in computational cost for a Campbell diagram analysis, while maintaining accuracy comparable to that of the original systems.

New technique for strengthening reinforced concrete beams with composite bonding steel plates

  • Composite bonding steel plate (CBSP) is a newly developed type of structure strengthened technique applicable to the existing RC beam. This composite structure is applicable to strengthening the existing beam bearing high load. The strengthened beam consists of two layers of epoxy bonding prestressed steel plates and the RC beam sandwiched in between. The bonding enclosed and prestressed U-shaped steel jackets are applied at the beam sides. This technique is adopted in case of structures with high longitudinal reinforcing bar ratio and impracticable unloading. The prestress can be generated on the strengthening steel plates and jackets by using the CBSP technique before loading. The test results of full-scale CBSP strengthened beams show that the strength and stiffness are enhanced without reduction of their ductility. It is demonstrated that the strain hysteresis effect can be effectively overcome after prestressing on the steel plates by using such technique. The applied plates and jackets can jointly behave together with the existing beam under the action of epoxy bonding and the mechanical anchorage of the steel jackets. The simplified formulas are proposed to calculate the prestress and the ultimate capacities of strengthened beams. The accuracy of formulas was verified with the experimental results.
