To investigate monitoring unit (MU) efficiency and plan quality of volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) using flattening-filter free (FFF) photon beam in association with target size and location. A virtual patient was generated in Eclipse$^{TM}$ (ver. A10, Varian Medical Systems, Palo Alto, USA) treatment planning system. The length of major and minor axis in axial view was 50 cm and 30 cm, respectively. Cylindrical-shaped targets were generated inside that patient at the center (symmetric target) and in the periphery (asymmetric target, 7.5 cm away from the center of the patient to the right direction) of the virtual patient. The longitudinal length was 10 cm and the diameters were 2, 5, 10 and 15 cm. Total 8 targets were generated. RapidArc$^{TM}$ plans using TrueBeam STx$^{TM}$ were generated for each target. Two full arcs were used and the axis of rotation of the gantry was set to be at the center of the virtual patient. Total MU, homogeneity index (HI), target mean dose, the value of gradient measure and body mean dose were calculated. In the case of symmetric targets, averaged total MU of FFF plan was 23% and 19% higher than that of flattening filter (FF) plan when using 6 MV and 10 MV photons, respectively. The difference of HI, target mean dose, gradient measure and body mean dose between FF and FFF was less than 0.04, 2.6%, 0.1 cm and 2.2%, respectively. For the asymmetric targets, total MU of FFF plan was 21% and 32% was higher than that of FF when using 6 MV and 10 MV photons, respectively. The homogeneity of the target was always worse when using FFF than using FF. The maximum difference of HI was 0.22. The target mean dose of FFF was 3.2% and 4.1% higher than that of FF for the 6 MV and 10 MV, respectively. The difference of gradient measure was less than 0.1 cm. The body mean dose was higher when using FFF than FF about 4.2% and 2.8% for the 6 MV and 10 MV, respectively. No significant differences between VMAT plans of FFF beam and FF beam were observed in terms of quality of treatment plan. The HI was higher when using FFF 10 MV photons for the asymmetric targets. The MU was increased noticeably when using FFF photon beams.
The Knowledge of the solar radiation components are essential for modeling many solar energy systems. This is particularly the case for applications that concentrate the incident energy to attain high thermodynamic efficiency achievable only at the higher temperatures. In order to estimate the performance of concentrating thermal systems, it is necessary to know the intensity of the beam radiation, as only this component can be concentrated. The Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) has began collecting solar radiation component data since January, 2002. KIER's component data will be extensively used by concentrating system users or designers as well as by research institutes. The theoretical analysis of solar radiation as a component has compared with the experimental data obtained by the KIER station. The Result of simulation analysis shows that the annual-average daily diffuse radiation on the horizontal surface is $1,457cal/m^2$ and daily direct radiation on the horizontal surface is $1,632cal/m^2$ for all over the 16 areas in Korea.

The measured solar radiation incident on tilted surfaces by all directions has been widely used as important solar radiation data in installing photovoltaic modules. To maximize the incident beam radiation, the slope, which is the angle between the plane of the surface in question and the horizontal, an4 the solar azimuth angles are needed for these solar photovoltaic systems. This is because the performance of the solar photovoltaic systems is much affected by angle and direction of incident rays. Recognizing those factors mentioned above are of importance, actual experiment has been performed in this research to obtain the an91e of inclination with which the maximum incident rays can be absorbed. The results obtained in this research could be used in installing optimal photovoltaic modules.
Vinyl ester (VE) resins, introduced in the late 1960s, have made large strides in reinforced plastics applications as adhesive and matrix materials on their appropriate mechanical performance characteristics in the glassy state. Generally, VE resins are a group of dimethacrylate resins based on bisphenol A type epoxy resin. They exhibit easy handling properties as well as good resistance to most chemical agents due to their mechanical and thermal properties. In this study, the effects of curing methods of vinyl ester resins on gel contents, flexural strength and dynamic mechanical properties were investigated. Thermal curing (room temperature, $80^{\circ}C$) and electron beam curing were used to crosslink a VE resin/styrene complex (65/35 wt%) with methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKPO) as a catalyst and an 8 wt% cobalt naphthenate in styrene solution as a accelerator. For the samples, gel contents as well as flexural strength and dynamic mechanical properties were characterized and compared by soxhlet apparatus, universal testing machine (UTM) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). As a result, the electron-cured VE resin was confirmed as a better condition than those for gel contents, flexural strength and dynamic mechanical properties, respectively.
This study aimed to assess of beam-matching accuracy for an 8 MV beam between the same model linear accelerators(Linac) commissioned over two years. Two models were got the customer acceptance procedure(CAP) criteria. For commissioning data for beam-matched linacs, the percentage depth doses(PDDs), beam profiles, output factors, multi-leaf collimator(MLC) leaf transmission factors, and the dosimetric leaf gap(DLG) were compared. In addition, the accuracy of beam matching was verified at phantom and patient levels. At phantom level, the point doses specified in TG-53 and TG-119 were compared to evaluate the accuracy of beam modelling. At patient level, the dose volume histogram(DVH) parameters and the delivery accuracy are evaluated on volumetric modulated arc therapy(VMAT) plan for 40 patients that included 20 lung and 20 brain cases. Ionization depth curve and dose profiles obtained in CAP showed a good level for beam matching between both Linacs. The variations in commissioning beam data, such as PDDs, beam profiles, output factors, TF, and DLG were all less than 1%. For the treatment plans of brain tumor and lung cancer, the average and maximum differences in evaluated DVH parameters for the planning target volume(PTV) and the organs at risk(OARs) were within 0.30% and 1.30%. Furthermore, all gamma passing rates for both beam-matched Linacs were higher than 98% for the 2%/2 mm criteria and 99% for the 2%/3 mm criteria. The overall variations in the beam data, as well as tests at phantom and patient levels remains all within the tolerance (1% difference) of clinical acceptability between beam-matched Linacs. Thus, we found an excellent dosimetric agreement to 8 MV beam characteristics for the same model Linacs.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find a optimal beam spoiler condition on the dose distribution near the surface, when treating a squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck and a lymphatic region with 10 MV photon beam. The use of a optimal spoiler allows elivering high dose to a superficial tumor volume, while maintaining the skin-sparing effect in the area between the surface to the depth of 0.4 cm. Materials and Methods: The lucite beam spoiler, which were a tissue equivalent, were made and placed between the surface and the photon collimators of linear accelerator. The surface-dose, the dose at the depth of 0.4 cm, and the maximum dose at the dmax were measured with a parallel-plate ionization chamber for $5{\times}5cm\;to\;30{\times}30cm^2$ field sizes using lucite spoilers with different thicknesses at varying skin-to-spoiler separation (SSS). In the same condition, the dose was measured with bolus and compared with beam spoiler. Results: The spoiler increased the surface and build-up dose and shifted the depth of maximum dose toward the surface. With a 10 MV x-ray beam and a optimal beam spoiler when treating a patient, a similer build-up dose with a 6 MV photon beam could be achieved, while maintaining a certain amount of skin spring. But it was provided higher surface dose under SSS of less than 5 cm, the spoiler thickness of more than 1.8 cm or more, and larger field size than $20{\times}20cm^2$ provided higher surface dose like bolus and obliterated the spin-sparing effect. the effects of the beam spoiler on beam profile was reduced with increasing depths. Conclusion: The lucite spoiler allowed using of a 10 MV photon beam for the radiation treatment of head and neck caner by yielding secondary scattered electron on the surface. The dose at superficial depth was increased and the depth of maximum dose was moved to near the skin surface. Spoiling the 10 MV x-ray beam resulted in treatment plans that maintained dose homogeneity without the consequence of increased skin reaction or treat volume underdose for regions near the skin surface. In this, the optimal spoiler thickeness of 1.2 cm and 1.8 cm were found at SSS of 7 cm for $10{\times}10cm^2$ field. The surface doses were measured 60% and 64% respectively. In addition, It showed so optimal that 94% and 94% at the depth of 0.4 cm and dmax respectively.
This paper proposes a unidirectional beam antenna using a probe excited circular ring near the reflector. The antenna structure is simple. The radiation characteristics of the antenna fur various spacing between a probe excited circular ring and the reflector are analyzed. These characteristics are also compared with the conventional single aperture near the reflector. It is found that the proposed structure yields better characteristics than the conventional structure. The numerical results of the radiation pattern, elevational beam peak, beamwidth, and maximum directivity are investigated. The result of the analysis is very useful to design the antenna of the high directivity with unidirectional beam.

The general features and measured results of the 143cm, variable-energy, three sector-focused MC-50 cyclotron installed at Korea Cancer Center Hospital are described. The MC-50 cyclotron is designed to produce beams of protons, deuterons, He-3 and alpha particles of maximum energies 50MeV, 25MeV, 66MeV and 50MeV respectively to be used for neutron therapy and radioisotope production. The azimuthal field variation is produced by three sets of spiral ridges having a maximum spiral angle of $55^{\circ}$. The RF system, a two-dee quarter-wave system is designed to provide a continuously variable frequency from 15.5 to 26.8 MHz. The first external beam was obtained in January 1986. Subsequent internal ana external beam studies with protons and alphas show a well-behaved beam through the whole beam transport system.
In this paper, a nonlinear optimal design technique is presented to find an optimal beam pattern. With this technique, the beam width is minimized with respect to a given maximum allowable side-lobe level considering the self- and mutual radiation impedances of vibrators. The proposed method is applied to design a planar array consisting 37 vibrators which are symmetric in X, Y and $45^{circ}$ axes. The results show that significantly low side-lobe level maintaining a main beam width can be obtained using this method.

Authors have measured virtual source distance of electron beam from CL/1800 medical linear accelerator, with newly designed method. Beam scanning was performed with the direction of beam axis in the air. Compared results between this study and well established in phantom measurement shows good agreement with in experimental error. And we have found that build-up cap plays very important role in air measurement because of charge build up. The method of in-air measurement of virtual source distance is very easy to set-up and generate accurate results.
