Gropius의 건축에 나타난 데 스틸 건축의 특성에 관한 연구 - 데사우 바우하우스 건물을 중심으로 - (A Study on the De Stijl's Characteristics via Gropius's Architecture)

  • Even though geographical drawbacks of Netherlands, the De Stiji Movement has been acting extensively as a composite arts movement. Furthermore, because this movement has influenced on even field of architecture, Walter Gropius, who had led to establish the modern architecture at that time, was not also able to be excluded from the influence of De Stiji movement. As a result, his works after 1922 when De Stijl movement had been acting vividly, shows a part of De Stijl style and definitely has a difference via-a-via early of his works. Therefore, this study in this point of view is on the purpose of how De Stijl Movement influenced on Gropius' works as the ideology of place and concepts in the period of both De Stijl Movement and Modern architecture style were being formed together. Especially, this study will analyze Dessau Bauhaus Building, which is the most influenced by De Stijl Style in Gropius' works, into the way of how De Stijl. was embodied to this building.

A Moving Least Squares weighting function for the Element-free Galerkin Method which almost fulfills essential boundary conditions

  • The Element-free Galerkin Method has become a very popular tool for the simulation of mechanical problems with moving boundaries. The internally applied Moving Least Squares interpolation uses in general Gaussian or cubic weighting functions and has compact support. Due to the approximative character of this interpolation the obtained shape functions do not fulfill the interpolation conditions, which causes additional numerical effort for the application of the boundary conditions. In this paper a new weighting function is presented, which was designed for meshless shape functions to fulfill these essential conditions with very high accuracy without any additional effort. Furthermore this interpolation gives much more stable results for varying size of the influence radius and for strongly distorted nodal arrangements than existing weighting function types.

프뢰벨의 킨더가르텐 시스템이 근대건축과 디자인에 미친 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the influence of Froebel′s Kindergarten system upon the modern architecture and design)

  • This study was performed to search for the geometrical principles in modern architecture and design based on Frobel's educational idea and Kindergarten system. Especially, it studies on the geometrical principles of Froebel's building gifts and it's types, and then illustrates applied examples in modern architecture and design. As the architectural scope, the architecture and design theory of Frank Lloyd Wright and Bauhaus in early 20th century is analyzed. The conclusions of this study that starts these purpose are as follows. First, Froebel's educational theory is based on principles and rules which are perceived through the observation of nature, and Froebel's Kindergarten system consists of geometrical building gifts and categories of geometrical forms. Second, the characteristics of Froebel's building gifts are mathematical size, proportion, symmetry and the rules of spatial relation. Third, the influence of Froebel's kindergarten system on Bauhaus is that it based on the rational rules of $\bigtriangleup\square\bigcirc$ organized by geometrical basic forms as like Froebel's educational idea. And the influence of Froebel's Kindergarten system on Frank Lloyd Wright is that he used unit system, unity of space and structure and modular system as like the Froebel's building gifts.

A Study on High Performance Fine-Grained Concrete Containing Rice Husk Ash

  • Rice husk ash (RHA) is classified as a highly reactive pozzolan. It has a very high silica content similar to that of silica fume (SF). Using less-expensive and locally available RHA as a mineral admixture in concrete brings ample benefits to the costs, the technical properties of concrete as well as to the environment. An experimental study of the effect of RHA blending on workability, strength and durability of high performance fine-grained concrete (HPFGC) is presented. The results show that the addition of RHA to HPFGC improved significantly compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and chloride penetration resistance. Interestingly, the ratio of compressive strength to splitting tensile strength of HPFGC was lower than that of ordinary concrete, especially for the concrete made with 20 % RHA. Compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of HPFGC containing RHA was similar and slightly higher, respectively, than for HPFGC containing SF. Chloride penetration resistance of HPFGC containing 10-15 % RHA was comparable with that of HPFGC containing 10 % SF.

발터 그로피우스의 작품에 반영된 독일 근대 주거의 계획쟁점 (Issues in German Modern Housing Design Reflected on Walter Gropius' Works)

  • In Germany, during the modern architectural movements diverse experiments for the propagation of modern housing solutions were conducted that succeeded to the spirit of Bauhaus. Therefore, the study traced how Walter Gropius adopted the trends of architectural style and aesthetic, the concept of production, the concept for new typology of housing, and issues in urban architecture. According to the results, processes to the 'sachlich' style could be seen in the cases of early and latter works of detached houses and further aesthetic changes of later works. Second, Gropius expanded his design field from detached houses to multiple dwelling and it was accompanied by typological transformation of buildings considering the industrialization and production of housing. Third, in the cases of multiple dwelling, it could be identified that site planning of housing complexes and building arrangement reflected a shift from traditional urban pattern to new alternatives suitable for mass housing supply. Thus, changes in the genealogy and propensity of German residential designs were partly summed up and their implications on modern housing architecture were discussed.

  • 후기산업사회로 특정지워지는 새로운 가치와 생활양식이 한국사회 속에서 퍼져나가고 있다. 이에 이소고는 먼저 복식 디자인속에서의 포스트모더니즘에 관한 것으로 후기산업사회의 논리와 포스트모드니즘의 문화형태 사이의 복잡한 연관관계들을 설명하려고 한다. 그리고 나서 디자인영역에서 "모더니즘"으로 대표되는 바우하우스와 비교하여 포스트모더니즘의 특징을 비판적으로 정의할 것이며, 포스트모더니즘 디자인의 기본적인 요소들과 그 정향점을 비판하기 위해 필자가 선택한 적절한 예들을 상세히 분석할 것이다. 결국 필자는 바우하우스와 포스트모더니즘을 뛰어넘는 새로운 시각을 제시하고자 한다. 다시말하면 '열린대화주의적 디자인'이라는 제3의 디자인 개념을, 소개하는 범위내에서 제안하려는 것이다.

  • The change of society causes the change of art necessarily. The experiments of plastic art which as been done by avant-garde movements at early 20th century have pursued ″Object drama″ consistently as trials of more or less abstract drama. As these plastic arts have used genre or media like circuses, sports, variate, films, screen play, newspapers and a quick method which had not been considered suitable for conventional aesthetic plastic arts, these arts looked provocative and, these provocative plastic arts have ignored universality shown in conventional arts and have caused extreme ″sensation″ accordingly. As a result, abstract art based on style which is against aestheticism and naturalism has been generalized. This style does not deny customary laws of art wholly but it requires new concept. Having ignored traditional styles, a new compositive and responsive way of composition which does not deviate from tradition has been pursued. A new and general understanding of arts which do not deny all conventionally-effective standards extremely has been developed. In this regard, this study analyzes characteristics of Bauhaus Theater which has tried to apply new technology engineering to plastic art as an integrated concept of art and technology amongst the directions of development of provocation, innovation and revolution in case of the plastic art of stage painting, and analyzes how this influences on modern painting in terms of avant-garde arts reviewing the meaning of this theory.
