  • This study presents a power distribution control scheme for a three-phase interleaved parallel DC/DC converter in a battery energy storage system. To extend battery life and increase the power equalization rate, a control method based on the nth order of the state of charge (SoC) is proposed for the charging and discharging processes. In the discharging process, the battery sets with high SoC deliver more power, whereas those with low SoC deliver less power. Therefore, the SoC between each battery set gradually decreases. However, in the two-stage charging process, the battery sets with high SoC absorb less power, and thus, a power correction algorithm is proposed to prevent the power of each particular battery set from exceeding its rated power. In the simulation performed with MATLAB/Simulink, results show that the proposed scheme can rapidly and effectively control the power distribution of the battery sets in the charging and discharging processes.

  • Lithium-ion batteries have been used in energy storage systems (ESS), electric vehicles (EVs), etc. due to their high safety, fast charging and long lifecycle. This paper aims to improve the convenience of users by changing the wired battery stack used in the battery pack, wirelessly using RFID, reducing the internal volume of the battery pack, reducing the size of the battery pack. In this paper, we propose a battery management system which can provide the flexibility of battery pack expansion and maintenance by using lithium ion battery, battery management system (BMS) and wireless communication for light weight of 1Kw small battery pack. Also, by flexibly arranging the cell layout inside the battery pack and designing to reduce the size of the outer shape of the battery pack.

  • As the battery capacity requirement increases, battery cells are connected in a parallel configuration. However, the sharing current of each battery cell becomes unequal due to the imbalance between cell's impedance which results the mismatched states of charge (SOC). The conventional fixed-resistance balancing methods have a limitation in battery equalization performance and system efficiency. This paper proposes a battery equalization method based on dynamic resistance technique, which can improve equalization performance and reduce the loss dissipation. Based on the SOC rate of parallel connected battery cells, the switches in the equalization circuit are controlled to change the equivalent series impedance of the parallel branch, which regulates the current flow to maximize SOC utilization. To verify the method, operations of 4 parallel-connected 18650 Li-ion battery cells with 3.7V-2.6Ah individually are simulated on Matlab/Simulink. The results show that the SOCs are balanced within 1% difference with less power dissipation over the conventional method.

  • In this paper, a fuel cell battery charger system, which is capable of bi-directional power transmission without built in battery, has been designed and fabricated. Performance and states of the notebook battery in bi-directional power transmission using the manufactured system have been tested. Before initializing the fuel cell charging system for 1 minute, the system received 10 W of electric power from notebook battery. Then the fuel cell charging system has been normal charging to notebook battery by 50 W. As a result of the experiment, the state of the notebook battery discharged less than 5% at the initial charging time, but then it has been charged. This results proves bi-directional power transmission in notebook computers increase the availability of fuel cell chargers.

  • A novel battery SOH estimation algorithm based on outlier detection has been presented. The Battery state of health (SOH) is one of the most important parameters that describes the usability state of the power battery system. Firstly, a battery system model with lifetime fading characteristic was established, and the battery characteristic parameters were acquired from the lifetime fading process. Then, the outlier detection method based on angular distribution was used to identify the outliers among the battery behaviors. Lastly, the functional relationship between battery SOH and the outlier distribution was obtained by polynomial fitting method. The experimental results show that the algorithm can identify the outliers accurately, and the absolute error between the SOH estimation value and true value is less than 3%.

  • Smart battery pack (SBP) for notebook PCs was developed using a cylindrical-type lithium ion battery. Batteries were connected with three serial and two parallel, the nominal capacity and the maximum load of SBP was 4,000mAh and 4.0A, respectively. The SBP was composed of a protection IC, by which safety of lithium ion batteries is maintained against overcharge, overdischarge and overcurrent, and a smart IC, which calculates the remaining capacity and the remaining run time. In matching test on notebook PC using Battery Mark 4.0, real and smart data of END voltage coincided nearly and LB and LLB signal worked norma]]y. And there were errors of less than 1% between the real and the smart data on the residual capacity in the charge and discharge test.

  • This study explored age and sex differences in preschoolers' narrative representations of their mothers. Subjects were 120 3-, 4-, 5- and 6-year-old children, with 15 boys and 15 girls in each age group. Using the MacArthur Story Stem Battery(Bretherton et al., 1990), observations were made to obtain children's narrative representations of their mothers. content themes and emotional responses. Boys' representations were more negative and less positive than girls' regardless of their age. Boys talked about more aggressive themes and showed more anxiety and less joy. Five and 6-year-old children had less negative and disciplinary representations of their mothers than 3- and 4-year-olds. Six-year-olds showed less prosocial themes than 3- and 5-years, and fewer aggressive themes than 3-and 4-year while they showed less joy, distress and concern responses than 3-years.

  • In this research, we report on the development of simulation system for performance verification of BMS(Battery Management System) which is utilized in electric vehicles. In the industrial circles, a manufacturer of BMS typically tests their system with real battery packs. However, it takes a long time to test all functions of BMS. Here, we develop BMU(Battery Managament Unit) as an embedded board, which will be installed in electric vehicle for controlling battery packs. All other environment factors for testing BMU are developed in softwares in order to reduce the term of test. Especially, the proposed system consists of cell simulator and CMU(Cell Management Unit) simulator which simulate real battery cells and control battery cells. These simulators enable the BMU to test more battery cells. In addition, proposed system provides diagnosis program in order to diagnose and monitor the condition of BMS which makes the test of BMS more easily. In order to verify the performance of the developed simulator, we have performed the experiment with real battery packs and our simulator. Through comparing two results of experiments, we verify that developed simulator shows better performance in terms of less amount of testing duration though having high reliability.

  • A new contactless Li-ion battery charging system was proposed. The conventional methods for charging Li-ion battery have some weak points. For example, there can be a contact failure, a poor waterproof, and a difficulty to standardize the battery charging systems. The new proposed system can overcome these weak points. The new charging system is composed of power transfer part and data transfer part. This paper focuses on the power transfer part for contactless battery charging. The power stage is mainly composed of PPRC(Push-pull Parallel Resonant Converter) and flyback converter. The new method of chaging Li-ion battery was proposed and PPRC + flyback-boost topology was analyzed. The proposed toplogy was tested under the constant voltage control and the constant current control which are adequate for charging Li-ion battery.
