Simultaneous Control of Frequency Fluctuation and Battery SOC in a Smart Grid using LFC and EV Controllers based on Optimal MIMO-MPC

  • This paper proposes a simultaneous control of frequency deviation and electric vehicles (EVs) battery state of charge (SOC) using load frequency control (LFC) and EV controllers. In order to provide both frequency stabilization and SOC schedule near optimal performance within the whole operating regions, a multiple-input multiple-output model predictive control (MIMO-MPC) is employed for the coordination of LFC and EV controllers. The MIMO-MPC is an effective model-based prediction which calculates future control signals by an optimization of quadratic programming based on the plant model, past manipulate, measured disturbance, and control signals. By optimizing the input and output weights of the MIMO-MPC using particle swarm optimization (PSO), the optimal MIMO-MPC for simultaneous control of the LFC and EVs, is able to stabilize the frequency fluctuation and maintain the desired battery SOC at the certain time, effectively. Simulation study in a two-area interconnected power system with wind farms shows the effectiveness of the proposed MIMO-MPC over the proportional integral (PI) controller and the decentralized vehicle to grid control (DVC) controller.

  • This study proposes a small-signal model and control design for a two-stage DC-DC-AC converter to investigate its dynamic characteristics in relation to battery energy storage system. When the circuit analysis of the two-stage DC-DC-AC converter is attempted simultaneously, the mathematical procedure of deriving the dynamic equation is complex and difficult. The main idea of modeling the two-stage DC-DC-AC converter states that this topology is separated into a bidirectional DC-DC converter and a single-phase inverter with an equivalent current source corresponding to that of the inverter or converter. The dynamic equations for the separated converter and inverter are then derived using the state-space averaging technique. The procedures of building the small-signal model of the two-stage DC-DC-AC converter are described in detail. Based on the derived small-signal model, the individual controllers are designed through a frequency-domain analysis. The simulation and experimental results verify the validity of the proposed modeling approach and controller design.

  • In order to present that the electromagnetic compatibility standards following the frequency goes up which is based automotive electronics, in this paper, a hybrid/electric vehicle battery which reflects the frequency of the equivalent circuit model is introduced. By using this circuit modeling, the impedance characteristics can be analysed and an analyze of battery one cell is finished. Using this model, each different from the discharging situation, the discharge characteristic curve could be led. Basic theoretical approaches and measuring results through MATLAB and experimental validation of the EIS measurement equipment was used.

  • The Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) utilized in Honda's Civic Hybrid Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system was developed with the aim of making every component lighter, more compact and more efficient than those in the former model. To reduce energy loss, inverter efficiency was increased by fine patterning of the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) chips, 12V DC-DC converter efficiency was increased by utilizing soft-switching, and the internal resistance of the IMA battery was lowered by modifying the electrodes and the current collecting structure. These improvements reduced the amount of heat generated by the unit components and made it possible to combine the previously separated Power Control Unit (PCU) and battery cooling systems into a single system. Consolidation of these two cooling circuits into one has reduced the volume of the newly developed IPU by 42% compared to the former model.

  • 하이브리드 전기자동차용 리튬이온 배터리 시스템의 모델링 및 모델기반 상태 관측기 설계에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 배터리의 동적 특성을 모사하기 위한 모델은 전기적 등가회로로 단순화하여 제안하였다. 모델 파라미터는 최소 자승 이론에 의거 다양한 운전조건에 따라 추정하였고, 실험 검증하였다. 검증된 모델을 기반으로 하는 비례-적분(PI) 제어의 상태 관측기를 구성하였고, 제어 이득 선정방법을 제안하였다. 제안된 상태 관측기의 강인성은 시뮬레이션 및 실험에 의거 다양한 운전조건 변동에 따른 민감도를 분석하여 검증하였다.

  • The Developing & Producing of Eco-Friendly vehicle have been more incremented, as People appreciate the importance of Earth Environment Conservation. The needs of Neighborhood Electric Vehicle(NEV) that suits Current people's short drive distance is incremented. In this Paper, we define Neighborhood Electric Vehicle through out National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of United States of America's regulation and explain motor and battery of primary constituents of that. We used MATLAB and ADVISOR 200 programs for Simulation, and propsed NEV's Model that tow people can be got in. In this Model, the battery is Lead-acid battery(72V, 85Ah) and the motor is 8kW permanent magnet synchronous motor(PM motor). We compared change of driving range of NEV through out non-changing speed Driving(10km/h, 20km/h, 30km/h, 40km/h) and Manhattan driving schedule.

  • This paper proposes ESS DC-DC Converter using Redox Flow Battery (RFB) for stand-alone microgrid. Price, safety, expandability and dynamics are crucial in ESS. Reports show that Zinc-bromine (ZnBr) RFB is the best choice in ESS. Simple electrical ZnBr RFB model is obtained from charging test. DC-DC converter Inductor current-DClink Voltage model is proposed for the DC microgrid. For the controller design in z-domain, the K-factor method is by considering nature of the digital controller. The control performance has been verified with simulation and hardware experiments. Lastly 10kW DC microgrid using RFB test result is shown.

전기자동차용 Ni/MH 전지 Module의 열관리기술 (Thermal Management of a Ni/MH Battery Module for Electric Vehicle)

  • 전기자동차의 동력원으로 사용되는 90Ah급 Nickel/Metal hydride 전지 11개로 구성된 module의 온도특성을 상용 software인 NISA II를 사용하여 해석하였다. 전지 module에 대한 element수를 감축하기 위하여 열전도도가 다른 여러 층을 통하여 전달되는 열흐름에 대한 해석을 전기저항 등가식을 사용하여 단순화하였으며, Cartesian coordinate의 축별로 다른 열전도도를 삽입하는 orthotropic model을 사용하였다. 전지 module의 온도를 낮추기 위하여 알루미늄 재질의 cooling fin을 전지와 전지사이에 삽입하여 실험을 수행하였고, 전지 module 최외곽에 위치한 fin에 의한 최고온도의 강하 효과는 미미하다는 결과를 얻었다. 전지 module내 전지별 온도차이를 극소화하기 위하여 cooling fin의 개수와 두께 그리고 측면 fin의 복합적인 영향에 대한 실험을 수행하였으며, 1mm 두께의 알루미늄 fin을 4개 사용하여 module내 전지별 최고온도의 차이를 $3^{\circ}C$ 이내로 줄일 수 있었다.

  • This paper is about the study of a stand-alone photovoltaic power conditioning system with an energy storage system with battery. The paper proposes the appropriate circuit model of stand-alone PV PCS considering the maintenance of the battery system. It also proposes the buck converter modeling by a state-space averaging method considering characteristics of solar cell. Lastly, it shows the way to choose the suitable battery and to design the model of bi-directional converter for charging and discharging battery. PSIM simulation is used to validate the proposed algothim of the system.

  • 카메라, 휴대전화, 노트북 등과 같이 휴대 가능한 전기전자기기들은 대부분 2차 전지로부터 전원을 공급받고 있다. 2차 전지로서는 타 전지에 비하여 고 에너지 밀도와 고 전압의 특성을 갖고 있는 리튬2차전지가 가장 많이 활용되고 있으며, 이 특성 때문에 전기자동차, 우주왕복선, 분산전원의 한 형태인 전력 저장장치에까지 그 이용이 확대되고 있다. 그러나, 시스템의 최적성능을 보장하기 위해서는 용도별 싸이클 수명성능을 고려한 충방전 설계 및 이를 위한 전기적 등가모델의 정확성이 필수적이다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 상용 리튬이차전지의 실제 실험 데이터에 근거하여 충/방전 심도 함수를 도출하고, 리튬이차전지의 수명성능평가를 위한 충/방전 특성 모델을 제안하고, 이의 타당성을 입증하였다.
