마코프체인 몬테카를로 방법을 이용한 에너지 저장 장치용 배터리의 잔존 수명 추정 (Remaining Useful Life Estimation of Li-ion Battery for Energy Storage System Using Markov Chain Monte Carlo Method)

  • 리튬 이온 배터리의 잔존수명 추정은 품질보증, 운전계획, 교체주기 파악 등을 위해 활용된다는 점에서 그 필요성이 점점 커지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 에너지 저장 장치용 배터리의 잔존 수명을 단일지수 용량열화 모델과 마코프체인 몬테카를로(MCMC) 방법을 이용하여 추정한 결과를 제시한다. MCMC방법은 사전 정보가 제대로 주어지지 않았을 때, 추정결과가 모델 초기값과 입력 설정값에 따라 크게 변하게 되는 단점이 있어, 실제 현장에서 배터리 모델과 추정법에 익숙하지 않은 사용자가 활용하는데 어려움이 있다. 이러한 어려움을 극복하기 위해, 본 논문에서는 베이지안 추론법의 이론식을 전역 탐색하여 구한 이론값과 MCMC 추정값을 비교해서, 초기값과 설정값을 결정하는 과정을 제안한다.

  • 본 논문은 5kW 배터리 충전기용 3상 인터리브드 DC-DC 컨버터 설계 및 실험에 대하여 서술하였으며, 배터리 시스템은 풍력 시스템의 안정화를 위해 사용한다. 배터리 충전기는 배터리, 3상 인터리브드 양방향 DC-DC 컨버터, 직류단, 계통연계형 인버터로 구성된다. 납축전지는 matlab으로 간단한 R-C모델링 하였으며, 스텝 전류 방전 실험에 따라 배터리 파라미터를 구하였다. 3상 인터리브드 DC-DC 컨버터를 이용해 배터리의 전류 리플을 감소시켰으며, 5kW 배터리 충전기를 제작하여 충·방전모드 제어기를 설계하고 실험하였다.

Lifetime Management Method of Lithium-ion battery for Energy Storage System

  • The lifetime of a lithium-ion battery is one of the most important issues of the energy storage system (ESS) because of its stable and reliable operation. In this paper, the lifetime management method of the lithium-ion battery for energy storage system is proposed. The lifetime of the lithium-ion battery varies, depending on the power usage, operation condition, and, especially the selected depth of discharge (DOD). The proposed method estimates the total lifetime of the lithium-ion battery by calculating the total transferable energy corresponding to the selected DOD and achievable cycle (ACC) data. It is also demonstrated that the battery model can obtain state of charge (SOC) corresponding to the ESS operation simultaneously. The simulation results are presented performing the proposed lifetime management method. Also, the total revenue and entire lifetime prediction of a lithium-ion battery of ESS are presented considering the DOD, operation and various condition for the nations of USA and Korea using the proposed method.

  • Modern embedded systems are typically operated by the rechargeable batteries in our daily life. Since charge of batteries is considered as an time consuming task, there have been extensive efforts to manage the charge time from the perspective of materials, circuits, and systems. Estimation of battery charge time is one of the essential information to design the charge circuitry. A compact macro model for the constant-current and constant-voltage charge protocol was recently introduced, which gives us a quick estimation of charge time with similar shape to the famous Peukert's law for discharge time estimation. The CC-CV charging protocol is widely used for Lithium-based batteries and Lead-acid batteries. In this paper, we characterize the lead-acid battery by measurement to extract the model coefficients, which was not covered by the previous studies. By our proposed model, the key coefficient Kcc results in 1.18-1.31, which is little bit higher than that of Lithium batteries. The accuracy of our model is within the range of ${\pm}10%$ error, which is compatible with the other studies such as Peukert's law.

  • Recently, major developed countries have strengthened automobile fuel efficiency regulations and carbon dioxide emission allowance standards to curb climate change caused by global warming worldwide. Accordingly, research and manufacturing on electric vehicles that do not emit pollutants during actual driving on the road are being conducted. Several automobile companies are producing and testing electric vehicles to commercialize them, but it takes a lot of manpower and time to test and evaluate mass-produced electric vehicles with driving mileage of more than 300km on a per-charge. Therefore, in order to reduce this, a simulation model was developed in this study. This study used vehicle information and MCT speed profile of small electric vehicle as basic data. It was developed by applying Simulink, which models the system in a block diagram method using MATLAB software. Based on the vehicle dynamics, the simulation model consisted of major components of electric vehicles such as motor, battery, wheel/tire, brake, and acceleration. Through the development model, the amount of change in battery SOC and the mileage during driving were calculated. For verification, battery SOC data and vehicle speed data were compared and analyzed using CAN communication during the chassis dynamometer test. In addition, the reliability of the simulation model was confirmed through an analysis of the correlation between the result data and the data acquired through CAN communication.

  • A battery is the primary energy source device presently used in hybrid electric vehicle. It can store much energy, but cannot provide enough current without inefficient units. However, an ultracapcitor can provide much current, but cannot store much energy. It will have better fuel economy by combining the two energy sources in parallel. The purpose of this paper is making the simulator of the two HEV systems. The one has only battery, the other have battery and ultarcapacitor in parallel. To compare the fuel economy, dynamic programing was used for optimization and prius was used for HEV model.

  • Lithium-Ion batteries have become the best tradeoff between energy, power density and cost of the energy storage system in many portable high electric power applications. In order to manage the battery efficiently State of Charge (SOC) of the battery needs to be estimated accurately. In this paper a model-based approach to estimate the SOC of the Lithium-Ion battery based on the estimation of the battery impedance is proposed. The validity and feasibility of the proposed algorithm is verified by the experimental results.

  • The battery charger of spacecraft has two different modes of operation respectively. One is the bus voltage regulation mode and the other is the charge current regulation mode. And also the battery discharger provide the power during eclipse mode of spacecraft. In this study, a test model of the battery charger and discharger using hi-directional converter are designed and analyzed. These Battery Charger and Discharger is introduced the modular converter method that can be added the converter modules according to the load variation.

  • This paper describes a Battery Checking & Monitoring System for monitoring battery cell and power system in Uninterruptible Power Supplies(UPS). The system is capable of measuring, in a matter of setting time, float and discharge voltage of up to 240 cells in a single installation, and has the memory capacity to store battery's alarm data information on up to 200 separate sites. This system are easy to maintain and attain cost effectively, so that prepared for meeting the customer's service needs immediately. The system is additionally programmed with a each model, that will enable to accurately determine the remain battery capacity in a UPS system following a short discharge test. It is also equipped with remote interrogation and control facilities.

A Controller Design for a Stability Improvement of an On-Board Battery Charger

  • This paper proposes the controller design for a stability improvement of an on-board battery charger. The system is comprised of a power factor correction (PFC) circuit and phase shift full-bridge DC-DC converter. The PFC circuit performs the control of the DC-link voltage and the input power factor. The DC-DC converter regulates the voltage and the current in the battery using the DC-link voltage. This paper proposes the design method of PI controller for the PFC circuit using a small signal model. The analysis and design of a type-three controller for the DC-DC converter is also presented. A simulation and experiment has been performed on the on-board battery charger and their results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed system.
