Recently, secondary batteries, commonly known as rechargeable batteries, find widespread applications across various industries. Particularly valued for their compact and lightweight characteristics, they play a crucial role in diverse portable electronic devices such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets, offering high energy density and efficient charge-discharge capabilities. Moreover, they serve as vital components in electric vehicles and contribute significantly to the field of renewable energy as part of Energy Storage Systems(ESS). However, despite advancements in this technology, issues such as reduced lifespan, cracking, damage, and even the risk of fire can arise due to excessive charging and discharging of secondary batteries. To address these challenges, Battery Management System(BMS) are employed to protect against overcharging and improve overall performance. Nevertheless, understanding the protective range settings of BMS using lithium-ion batteries, the most commonly used secondary batteries, and lead-acid batteries can be challenging. Therefore, this paper aims to utilize a battery charge-discharge tester and simulator to investigate the charging and discharging characteristics of lithium-ion batteries and lead-acid batteries, addressing the associated challenges of reduced lifespan, cracking, damage, and fire hazards in secondary batteries.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze low-temperature starting performance of the light attacker and to search and improve the aircraft system including battery and Battery Charge and Control Unit(BCCU). Methods: In order to improve the starting up performance of the light attacker at low-temp, various deficiency cause were derived and analyzed using Fault Tree Analysis method. As a result, it was confirmed there were drawbacks in the charging and discharging mechanism of the battery. The inactivation of the battery's electrolyte at low-temp and the premature termination of the battery charge were the main cause. After long error and trial, we improved these problems by improving performance of battery and optimizing the charging algorithm of BCCU. Results: It was confirmed that the problems of starting up failures were solved through the combined performance test of the battery and BCCU, the ground test using the aircraft system and the operation test conducted by Korea Airforce operating unit for 3 months in winter. Conclusion: This study showed that the improvement of quality reliability was achieved and thus the start-up performance issue of the light attacker has been resolved at low temperature. And it is expected that the design methodologies of temperature-affected electrical system of aircraft will contribute to the development of the aircraft industry in the future.

Lead-acid Battery is the oldest rechargeable battery system and has maintained its position in the rechargeable battery field. The battery causes thermal runaway for various reasons, which can lead to major accidents. Therefore, preventing thermal runaway is a key part of the battery management system. Recently, research is underway to categorize thermal runaway battery cells into machine learning. In this paper, we present a thermal runaway hazard cell detection and verification algorithm using DBSCAN and statistical method. An experiment was conducted to classify thermal runaway hazard cells using only the resistance values as measured by the Battery Management System (BMS). The results demonstrated the efficacy of the proposed algorithms in accurately classifying thermal runaway cells. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm was able to classify thermal runaway cells between thermal runaway hazard cells and cells containing noise. Additionally, the thermal runaway hazard cells were early detected through the optimization of DBSCAN parameters using a grid search approach.

Recently, unmanned electric vehicles are increasingly interested among all of the world since they can provide low exhaust gas, high efficiency and high mobility. To exploit their silent maneuver and high mobility, unmanned electric vehicles have been developed since early 1980's for military. However, it is not easy to design and control a power system satisfying operating duration and mobility performance requirements based on various mission profiles for military use under the conditions of limited space and weight. Moreover it is also necessary to prevent over-charge, over-discharge and voltage unbalance between cells of battery to secure high voltage battery which is serially connected with muti-cells. In this paper, we presents power control and optimal management method for the dog-horse robot which adopts a electric power system and suggests a guide-line to manage and control to secure high voltage battery.

In order to drive a hybrid propulsion device which combines an engine and an electric propulsion unit, battery packs that contain dozens of unit cells consisting of a lithium-based battery are used to maintain the power source. Therefore, it is necessary to more strictly manage a number of battery cells at any given time. In order to manage battery cells, generally voltage, current, and temperature data under load condition are monitored from a personal computer. Other important elements required to analyze the condition of the battery are the internal resistances that are used to judge its state-of-health (SOH) and the open-circuit voltage (OCV) that is used to check the battery charging state. However, in principle, the internal resistances cannot be measured during operation because the parallel equivalent circuit is composed of internal loss resistances and capacitance. In most energy storage systems, battery management system (BMS) operations are carried out by using data such as voltage, current, and temperature. However, during operation, in the case of unexpected battery cell failure, the output voltage of the power supply can be changed and propulsion of the hybrid vehicle and vessel can be difficult. This paper covers the implementation of a high safety battery management system (HSBMS) that can estimate the OCV while the device is being driven. If a battery cell fails unexpectedly, a DC power supply with lithium iron phosphate can keep providing the load with a constant output voltage using the remainder of the batteries, and it is also possible to estimate the internal resistance.
To increase the capacity of secondary cells, an appropriate serial composition of the battery modules is essential. The unbalance that may occur due to the series connection in such a serial composition is the main cause for declines in the efficiency and performance of batteries. Various studies have been conducted on the use of a passive or active topology to eliminate the unbalance from the series circuit of battery modules. Most topologies consist of a complex structure in which the Battery Management System (BMS) detects the voltage of each module and establishes the voltage balancing in the independent electrical power converters installed on each module by comparing the module voltage. This study proposes a new magnetic flux sharing type DC/DC converter topology in order to remove voltage unbalances from batteries. The proposed topology is characterized by a design in which all of the DC/DC convertor outputs connected to the modules converge into a single transformer. In this structure, by taking a form in which all of the battery balancing type converters share magnetic flux through a single harmonic wave transformer, all of the converter voltages automatically converge to the same voltage. This paper attempts to analyze the dynamic properties of the proposed circuit by using a Programmable Synthesizer Interface Module (PSIM), which is useful for power electronics analysis, while also attempting to demonstrate the validity of the proposed circuit through experimental results.

The research on waste power batteries in China in the past ten years reveals that the power battery recycling industry is enormous but marred with several challenges. A study of China's current power battery closed-loop supply chain revealed some issues in the power battery recycling industry, such as imperfect supply chain, small recycling scale, asymmetric information, and imperfect profit distribution mechanism. This paper uses the theory of corporate social responsibility and consumer choice to propose a closed-loop network of power batteries based on block chain technology and analyzes the existing closed-loop supply chain of power batteries. Consequently, this study provides a new idea for developing the power battery closed-loop supply chain by proposing the closed-loop network of power batteries based on blockchain technology.
This paper propose a new power conditioner topology with intelligent power management controller that integrates multiple renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy and fuel cell energy with battery backup to make best use of their operating characteristics and obtain better reliability than that could be obtained by single renewable energy based power supply. The proposed embedded controller is programmed for maintaining a constant voltage at PCC, maximum power point tracking for solar PV panel and WTG and power flow control by regulating the reference currents of the controller on instantaneous basis based on the power delivered by the sources and load demand. Instantaneous variation in reference currents of the controller enhances the controller response as it accommodates the effect of continuously varying solar insolation and wind speed in the power management. The power conditioner uses a battery bank with embedded controller based online SOC estimation and battery charging system to suitably sink or source the input power based on the load demand. The simulation results of the proposed power management system for a standalone solar/WTG/fuel cell fed hybrid power supply with real time solar radiation and wind velocity data collected from solar centre, KEC for a sporadically varying load demand is presented in this paper and the results are encouraging in reliability and stability perspective.

Prognostics and health management(PHM) is actively utilized by industry as an essential technology focusing on accurately monitoring the health state of a system and predicting the remaining useful life(RUL). An effective PHM is expected to reduce maintenance costs as well as improve safety of system by preventing failure in advance. With these advantages, PHM can be applied to the battery system which is a core element to provide electricity for devices with mobility, since battery faults could lead to operational downtime, performance degradation, and even catastrophic loss of human life by unexpected explosion due to non-linear characteristics of battery. In this paper we mainly review a recent progress on various models for predicting RUL of battery with high accuracy satisfying the given confidence interval level. Moreover, performance evaluation metrics for battery prognostics are presented in detail to show the strength of these metrics compared to the traditional ones used in the existing forecasting applications.

Currently, various researches on electric vehicle battery systems have been conducted from the viewpoint of safety and performance for SoC, SoH, etc. However, it is difficult to build a precise electrical model of a battery system based on the chemical reaction and SoC prediction. Experimental measurements and predictions of the battery SoC were usually performed using dynamometers. In this paper, we construct a simulation model of an electric vehicle system using Matlab Simulink, and confirm the response characteristics based on the vehicle test driving profiles. In addition, we show that it is possible to derive the correlation between the SoC, voltage, and current of the battery according to the driving time of the electric vehicle in conjunction with the BMS model.
