  • In designing the Machine element, most or part drawings are composed of basic entities. The basic entitles are classified into groups in order to enhance the drawing efficiency of computer aided design system based on GT concept. This paper deals with the generalization of handling drawing procedures which can cover the standard parts and the basic constitutional part of mold base.

  • We investigate the error estimates of the h and p versions of the finite element method for an elliptic problems. We present theoretical results showing the p version gives results which are not worse than those obtained by the h version in the finite element method.

  • A new three-dimensional 13-node hexahedral element with rotational degrees of freedom, which is designated as MR-H13 element, is presented. The proposed element is established by adding five nodes to one of the six faces of basic 8-node hexahedral element. The new element can be effectively used in the connection between the refined mesh and the coarser mesh. The derivation of the current element in this paper is based on the variational principles in which the rotation and skew-symmetric stress are introduced as independent variables. Numerical examples show that the performance of the new element is satisfactory.

  • This study reported, the effect of random variation in system properties on bending response of single wall carbon nanotube reinforced composite (SWCNTRC) plates subjected to transverse uniform loading is examined. System parameters such as the SWCNT armchair, material properties, plate thickness and volume fraction of SWCNT are modelled as basic random variables. The basic formulation is based on higher order shear deformation theory to model the system behaviour of the SWCNTRC composite plate. A C0 finite element method in conjunction with the first order perturbation technique procedure developed earlier by the authors for the plate subjected to lateral loading is employed to obtain the mean and variance of the transverse deflection of the plate. The performance of the stochastic SWCNTRC composite model is demonstrated through a comparison of mean transverse central deflection with those results available in the literature and standard deviation of the deflection with an independent First Order perturbation Technique (FOPT), Second Order perturbation Technique (SOPT) and Monte Carlo simulation.

  • This study's basic intention is to analyze property of combination relations of formative element composing robot' s face based on a result of preference response on robot's design. Also, in order to improve preference from the analysis result, the study intended to inquire into possibilities of suggesting design guideline. For the above, photographs of 27 robots' faces were selected as a experimental stimuli, and experiments on preference response and association response were performed. As a result, various properties such as robots' form of eyes having greater influences than facial structure, etc. Based on the result, each formative element's property that could have positive influence preference response on robot's face could be drawn and basic design guideline could also be suggested.

  • An expert drawbead model is developed to model a cranky drawbead in the finite element analysis of stamping processes. The expert model calculates the drawbead restraining forces (DBRF's) and bead-exit thinning, which are boundary conditions. DBRF's are calculated by considering bending force, unbending force, and friction force in order. Bead-exit thinning are due to the bending and tension during the deformation. The DBFR's and thinning computed form the mathematical model for the basic beads are compared with measurements and correction factors compensating for the differences are found using the multiple linear regression method. The composition beads are assumed to be a combination of basic beads so that the DBRF's and bead-exit thinning are computed to the sum of those of basic beads.

  • Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrophotometer (ICP/AES) is a versatile modern instruments for the multi-element analysis, but quantitative analysis using ICP/AES with normal pneumatic nebulizer is not applicable for the measurement of elemental concentrations in water down to the drinkining water standard level except a few elements because of poor detection limits. However, the detection limit can be lowered enough to measure drinking water standard, if ultrasonic nebulizer and/or hydride vapor generator is attached. This method is tested with groundwater samples from Tajeon area. It is confirmed that the elemental concentrations in these samples are within the limit of drinking water standard for the most elements. However, uranium concentration is very high in some samples compared with the concentrations suggested by Environmental Protection Agency of U.S.A. There is no standard concentration level to this element in Korea and it should be prepared immediately.

  • The drawbead model for a three-dimensional a finite element analysis of sheet metal forming processes is developed. The mathematical models of the basic drawbeads like circular drawbead, stepped drawbead, and squared drawbaed are first derived using the bending theory, belt-pulley equation, and Coulomb friction law. Next, the experiments for finding the drawing characteristics of the drawbead are performed. Based on mathematical models and drawing test results, expert models of basic drawbeads are then developed employing a linear multiple regression method. For the expert models of combined drawbeads such as the double circular drawbead, double stepped drawbead, circular-and-stepped drawbead, etc., those of the basic drawbeads are summed. Finally, in order to verify the expert models developed, the drawing characteristics calculated by the expert models of the double circular drawbead and circular-and-stepped drawbead are compared with those obtained from the experiments. The predictions by expert models agree well with the measurements by experiments.
