Two different dyes containing the same molecular weight but different chemical structure have been utilized for the study of thermodynamic parameters. In this study, {3-(4-(diethylamino)phenyl)-3-(1-ethyl-2-methyl-1H-indol-3-yl)isobenzofuran-1(3H)-one} (Blue 502) and {3-(4-(diethylamino)-2-methylphenyl)-3-(1,2-dimethyl-1H-indol-3-yl)isobenzofuran-1(3H)-one} (Blue 402) were used. It has been performed by measuring UV spectra of the two dyes. In general, the blue shift has been observed from both dyes in higher carbon number alcohol solvents. Interestingly, Blue 502 showed higher stability than Blue 402 in the same conditions used in this study. And, the equilibrium constants (0.9~1.0) of the dyes depending upon temperature change were also calculated using UV absorbance. The standard enthalpy calculated from equilibrium constants and molar absorptivity($\varepsilon$) are 10.94 kJ/mol in Blue 402 and 9.010 kJ/mol in Blue 502, respectively.
We report the synthesis and characterization of new alkoxy substituted spirobifluorene derivatives. The spiro compounds having alkoxy hydrocarbon chains were readily soluble in common organic solvents, having improved film-forming properties and had a significantly reduced tendency to crystallize, resulting in increasing their service lifetime. The results of DSC showed that it was amorphous. The optical and electroluminescent spectra were characterized. Electroluminescence (EL) properties of three-layer light emitting diodes (LED) of $ITO/TPD/spirobifluorene/Alq_3/LiF/Al$ as the active layer were characterized. Blue emission peaking of the EL spectrum of the three-layer device at 402 nm and a luminance of 3,125 $cd/m^2$ were achieved at a drive voltage 12.8 V. The luminous efficiency was obtained to be 1.7 lm/W. The color coordinate in CIE chromaticity is (0.16, 0.09), which is in a pure blue region. The external quantum efficiency was obtained to be 2.0%. The results indicate that the spirobifluorene compounds having alkoxy hydrocarbon chains are strongly potential blue emitters for LED applications.
New spiro[fluorene-7,9′-benzofluorene]-based blue host material, 5-phenyl-spiro[fluorene-7,9′-benzofluorene] (BH-1P), was successfully prepared by reacting 5-bromo-spiro[fluorene-7,9′-benzofluorene] (1) with phenyl boronic acid through the Suzuki reaction. 5-(N,N-Diphenyl)amino-spiro[fluorene-7,9′-benzofluorene] (BH-1DPA) and diphenyl-[4-(2-[1,1;4,1]terphenyl-4-yl-vinyl)-phenyl]amine (BD-1) were used as dopant materials. 2,5-Bis-(2',2"- bipyridin-6-yl)-1,1-diphenyl-3,4-diphenylsilacyclopentadiene (ET4) and Alq3 were used as electron transfer materials. Their UV absorption, photoluminescence and thermal properties were examined. The blue OLEDs with the configuration of ITO/DNTPD/$\alpha$-NPD/BH-1P:5% dopant/$Alq_3$ or ET4/LiF-Al prepared from the BH-1P host and BH-1DPA and BD-1 dopants showed a blue EL spectrum at 452 nm at 10 V and a luminance of 923.9 cd/$m^2$ with an efficiency of 1.27 lm/W at a current density of 72.57 mA/$cm^2$.

The adsorption ability of dyes on chitin, a natural polymer was investigated for decolorization of dye wastewater. Chitin was manufactured in lab by decalcification in dilute aqueous HCI solution and deproteination in dilute aqueous NaOH solution with shrimp shells. Absorbance of residue solution of dyebaths after dye adsorptions of chitin were measured in varieties of dye concentration and dipping periods. Four kinds of dyestuffs were used, C.I.Acid Blue 29. C.I.Direct Blue 6, C.I.Reactive Orange 12 and C.I.Basic Red 18. When chtin 1g was dipped in 0.05% of dyebath with stirring, maximum adsorption ratio of each kind of dyes was exhibited as 91.6% for C.I.Acid Blue 29, 95% for C.I.Direct Blue 6, 58.2% for C.I.Reactive Orange 13 and 75.8% for C.I.Basic Red 19. It shows that chitin has better adsorption abilities of ionic dyes of acid, direct and basic dye than non-ionic reactive dye. And chitin has better adsorption abilities of anionic acid direct dyes than cationic basic dye because of the presence of nitrogen atoms. All kinds of dyestuffs used showed speedy absorption effects by chitin, so chitin can absorb much amount of dyes in 5 mimutes reach to equilibrium of adsorption in 2 hours after dipping. Basic dye was absorbed the most speedily in 5 minutes, although maximum adsorption ratio is not high. That reason can be thought that chitin surface is essentially negatively charged due to polar funtional groups.

A novel spiro-type host material, 5-[4-(1-naphthyl)phenyl]-spiro[fluorene-7,9'-benzofluorene] (BH-1PN) and three new dopants, namely, 5-[diphenylamino)phenyl]-spiro[fluorene-7,9'-benzofluorene] (BH-1TPA), 5-[4-(N-phenyl (m-tolyl)amino]-spiro[fluorene-7,9'-benzofluorene] (BH-1MDPA) and 5-[(N-phenyl)-2-naphthyl]amino-spiro[fluorene- 7,9'-benzofluorene] (BH-1NPA) were designed and successfully prepared using the Suzuki or amination reactions. The electroluminescence characteristics of BH-1PN as a blue host material doped with each of the blue dopants were evaluated. The structure of the device is ITO/DNTPD/NPB/BH-1PN:5% dopant/Alq3/Al-LiF. The device obtained from BH-1PN doped with diphenyl-[4-(2-[1,1;4,1]terphenyl-4-yl-vinyl)phenyl]-amine (BD-1) showed good color purity, efficiency, luminance, and current-density characteristics.
In this study, adsorption characteristics of coconut shell-based granular activated carbon (CS-GAC) on Basic Blue 3 (BB3) were evaluated. As the dosage of CS-GAC increased, the removal efficiency of BB3 tended to increase and the initial dye concentration of 50 mg/L was completely removed at 0.2 g dosage. Adsorption equilibrium achieved within 270 and 420 min at the initial concentrations of 25 and 50 mg/L, respectively, and the experimental data were represented by the pseudo-second-order model. The maximum uptakes ($q_{max}$) predicted by the Langmuir model were 34.45, 46.63 and 53.10 mg/g at 298, 308 and 318 K, respectively. The $q_{max}$ value increased as the temperature increased. Also, the Gibbs free energy (${\Delta}G$) was changed to -7.37, -8.19 and -10.40 kJ/mol with increasing temperature. The enthalpy change (${\Delta}H$) and the entropy change (${\Delta}S$) were 34.47 kJ/mol and 0.15 J/mol K, respectively. Therefore adsorption of BB3 by CS-GAC was spontaneous and endothermic.
In this study, we have investigated the substitutional effects of In ions with divalent ones in the $Srln_2O_4:Pr^{3+}$ phosphors and the relative change of the red and blue emissions. The substitutional Zn ions greatly intensified the blue emission band at 492 nm, but the red emission band at 608 nm was relatively less changed. On the other hand, Cd ions have no effect on the relative intensities. We explained the phenomena in connection with the distance of Pr-D, i.e., covalency experienced by a $Pr^{3+}$ion.
The purpose of this study was to examine a unique characteristic of the colors of the costumes in Korean basic culture in the aim of seeking Five-elements color found in Korean civilian's costume culture. The scope of Korean basic culture was 32 items specified as an import intangible cultural asset in the side of religion and art for the majority of the Korean people. Within these limits, the colors of the dress, accessories, instruments were extracted by comparing with the naked eye in NCS Color System. The result of this investigation was that Red was yellowish red and high chromatic and deep tone within 4area. Blue was purplish blue and high chromatic and deep tone within 4area, similarly Red. Yellow was pure yellow and high chromatic and bright tone within 3area. Red and Blue in Korean basic culture were more primary color and more high brightness than Korean traditional colors.
