  • The base station (BS) of CDMA mobile system (CMS) provides mobile call services by controlling call processing functions. The call Processing part of the BS is divided into two components; the base station transceiver subsystem (BTS) and the base station controller (BSC). In this paper, we present the call capacity estimation of the BS about control signals and traffic data of calls by the simulation, and find the bottleneck points and problems which may occur in the BS. In order to estimate the call capacity, first we extract the major parameters for the modeling the BS. Second, we suggest the simulation model for the BS. Third, we estimate the simulation results by finding major objective factors such that the call blocking probability, the utilization ratio and the delay time in the traffic channel elements (TCEs), the BTS interconnection network (BIN)-COMA interconnection network (CIN) trunks, the transcoding channels and the CIN packet router.

  • In this paper, the performance analysis of optics-based sensor node localization using ToF (Time of Flight) scheme is conducted. Generally, the position of the sensor node is calculated on the base station. And the base station scans neighboring sensor nodes with a laser. The laser which is reflected from one sensor node, however, can be reached to the base station at different angles according to the scanning resolution. This means that the error of the reached angle can increase and one node may be recognized as different nodes. Also the power of laser can decrease because the laser signal spread. Thus the sensor node which is located at a long distance from the base station cannot be detected. In order to overcome these problems which can be occurred in localization using ToF, the beam spot, the scanning resolution, the size of reflector and the power of laser at the sensor node were analyzed. It can be expected that the consequence of analysis can be provided in acquisition of accurate position of sensor node and construction of optics-based sensor node localization system.

  • The femtocell network, which is designed for low power transmission and consists of consumer installed small base stations, coexists with macrocells to exploit spatial reuse gain. For its realization, cross-tier interference mitigation is an important issue. To solve this problem, we propose a joint access and power control scheme that requires limited information exchange between the femto and macro networks. Our objective is to maximize the network throughput while satisfying each user's quality of service (QoS) requirement. To accomplish this, we first introduce two distributed interference detection schemes, i.e., the femto base station and macro user equipment based schemes. Then, the proposed scheme dynamically adjusts the transmission power and makes a decision on the access mode of each femto base station. Through extensive simulations, we show that the proposed scheme outperforms earlier works in terms of the throughput and outage probability.

  • Because each resource in LTE-Advanced system and network's shapes such as bandwidth, error rate change variably, it is judged that it is impossible to control service continuity with procedural, artificial, and static control method applied to the existing voice service. This research suggests a QoS management mechanism to support the service continuity effectively based on policy control. It means a method in which a subscriber's terminal collects information about its current condition and base station around, and a base station, through the data collected by monitoring inner or adjacent base station, shares related data and converges, controlling service continuity on its own.

  • A femtocell network has been attracting attention as a promising solution for providing high data rate transmission over the conventional cellular network in an indoor environment. In this paper, we propose a distributed power control algorithm considering both indoor coverage and data load balancing in the femtocell network. As data traffic varies by time and location according to user distribution, each femto base station suffers from an unbalanced data load, which may degrade network performance. To distribute the data load, the base stations are required to adjust their transmission power dynamically. Since there are a number of base stations in practice, we propose a distributed power control algorithm. In addition, we propose the simple algorithm to detect the faulty base station and to recover coverage. We also explain how to insert a new base station into a deployed network. We present the simulation results to evaluate the proposed algorithms.

  • In a mobile communication system, we analyze the performance of uplink transmit power control mechanisms for various environments when a mobile station is during soft handoff. The quality of data frames at the receiver side can be better at a base station controller (BSC) than at its base stations (BSs) if the BSC combines selectively the data frames transmitted from the BSs. And, in order to achieve the target frame error rate (FER), the outer loop power control should be done at the BSC instead of at the BSs. It can save the energy consumption of a mobile station during the soft handoff.

  • In OFDMA system, even if the number of allocated sub-channel in mobile station varies from one to the whole sub-channel as in base station, while because of mobile station's transmit power is lower than that of base station, therefore full loading range(FLR) constraint occurs where whole sub-channel can be used and the conventional open-loop power control scheme can not be used beyond FLR. We propose a new scheme that limits the maximum sub-channel allocation number and uses power concentration gain(PCG) depending on location of mobile station, which is based on ranging in OFDMA system. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides solutions for optimum utilization of radio resource depending on the location of mobile station and enables open-loop power control beyond FLR without extra hardware complexity.

  • We developed a base station modulator ASIC for CDMA digital cellular system. In CDMA digital cellular system, the modulation is performed by convolutional encoding and QPSK with spread spectrum. The function blocks of base station modulator are CRC, convolutional encoder, interleaver pseudo-moise scrambler, power control bit puncturing, walsh cover, QPSK, gain controller, combiner and multiplexer. Each function block was designed by the logic synthesis of VHDL codes. The VHDL code was described at register transfer level and the size of code is about 8,000 lines. The circuit simulation and logic simulation were performed by COMPASS tools. The chip (ES-C2212B CMB) contains 25,205 gates and 3 Kbit SRAM, and its chip size is 5.25 mm * 5,45 mm in 0.8 mm CMOS cell-based design technology. It is packaged in 68 pin PLCC and the power dissipation at 10MHz is 300 mW at 5V. The ASIC has been fully tested and successfully working on the CDMA base station system.

There are Location measurement methods which measures the AOA(Angle of Arrival) of the signal which it sends with the MS(Mobile station) from the BS(Base station), an electronic delivery time (TOA:Time of Arrival) and the relative difference of electronic arrival time from Base stations (TDOA:Time Difference of Arrival). This time the error due to a multiplex course error and near-far problem and NLOS(Non Line of Sight). We are planning to construct the Test Bed which is an error below 1 meter.

  • This paper presents the dynamic excitation control of a siphon-turbine coupled pico-hydro powered cage rotor induction generator and load matching for off-grid electricity generation. Through the proposed dual-role of the current-controlled voltage source converter (VSC), acting as static synchronous compensator and load controller, real and reactive power are dynamically controlled in a decoupled manner with a self supported DC-bus. The proposed scheme entails minimal computation for ensuring the rated (set) capacity of real power. The scheme also exhibits fault immunity for protection, thus enabling the effective handling of constant power electrical loads presented by base telecom station towers in remote locations. The performance of the system is evaluated under MATLAB/Simulink and is experimented through a developed hardware prototype. Simulation and experimental results show close conformity and validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
