  • We propose a T-shaped UWB printed monopole antenna and investigate the effect of the surface currents of the radiator and ground plane. The measured impedance bandwidth of the antenna covers the range of 3.1 to 11 GHz for a VSWR$\le$2, which satisfies the requirement of the UWB operation. From the analysis of the surface currents, the proposed antenna can be treated as two asymmetric dipoles with the included angle of 90 degrees which lie along z-direction symmetrically. It is observed that the effect of the surface currents on the radiation patterns is similar to that of the corresponding dipole. The length and width of the found plane correspond the radius and length of the dipole respectively. This approach is also valid to general printed monopole antennas. Finally, we included an antenna example having resonance at a lower frequency by tapering the edges of the ground plane and another example having a bandstop characteristic by inserting an inverted-U slot on the radiator, and explain those antennas using the surface currents.

  • In this paper, a frequency selective surface(FSS) with bandstop operation for radio-frequency spectrum management is presented. The proposed FSS is composed of patterns of fractal-based miniaturized unit cells for stable performance for angles of incidence and polarizations. For practical applications requiring high productivity and environmental compatibility, we fabricated a film-type FSS by screen-printing using Ag ink, rather than a conventional manufacturing method using a printed circuit board. To validate this study, we measured the transmission characteristics of the proposed FSS using the free-space measurement method, and observed the received strength of signal penetrating the FSS film applied to a wall.

  • In this paper, a miniaturized frequency selective surface(FSS) for bandstop operation that provides stability for an angle of incidence and polarization is presented. The proposed miniaturized FSS has the unit cell of hexagonal structure with triangular loops and size of the unit cell is $0.081{\lambda}{\times}0.081{\lambda}$ at 2.5 GHz operating frequency, which is very small compared to operating wavelength. In addition, unlike the conventional design, which requires complicated design parameters, the proposed FSS is easily expanded to the desired operating frequency for 2~8 GHz, by controlling the specific design parameters. To validate the simulation results, the FSS structures having different operating frequencies, 2.5 GHz, 5 GHz and 8.2 GHz were designed, fabricated and measured. The comparisons between the simulation and the measured results show good agreement. The proposed miniaturized FSS can provide better frequency stability for different incidence angles and polarizations.

  • In this paper, the flexible narrow bandpass filters (BPFs) with ${\lambda}$g/4 short and ${\lambda}$g/2 open stubs by microstrip line on duroid substrate are suggested. These BPFs with narrow bandwidth show flexible bandwidth with variation of the position of the stubs using the Qe (external quality factor) without changing the impedance value at microwave range. On the other hand, by replacing the series quarter-wavelength connecting lines with the equivalent T-shaped line of bandstop filter(BSF), the compact stub bandpass filter with harmonics suppression can be realized. The BPF with ${\lambda}$g/4 short stubs shows the insertion loss of 2.1 dB and the return loss of 18 dB and BPF with ${\lambda}$g/2 open stubs shows the insertion loss of 1.2 dB and the return loss of 21.9 dB at the center frequency of 5.8 GHz and the bandwidth of 10 %.

  • In this paper, we propose a new EBG structure that the two unit cells are connected by the bridge line in signal transmission plane. The SSN of the power plane is reduced effectively by via holes and bridge lines connecting the unit cells. The superior signal transfer characteristic is shown between the signal lines in the signal transmission plane. The proposed EBG structure contains 1.2 GHz cut-off frequency and less than -30 dB suppression in the 8.3 GHz broad bandwidth. In addition, To improve the SI(Signal Integrity) in signal transmission plane keeping the same bandstop frequency range, the optimized location of the reference plane is proposed.
