  • Electromagnetic levitation system(EMLS) is one of the well known nonlinear systems. Often, it is not easy to control an EMLS due to its high nonlinearity. In this paper, we first apply two linearization method(jacobian and input-output feedback linearization) to design two feedback controllers for an EMLS. Then, by observing the advantages of each controller, we design a switching control algorithm which engage two controllers depending on the position of the steel ball in order to achieve the improved performance over each controller. The validity of our switching control approach is verified via both simulation and actual experimental results.

  • Although there has been many research regarding improving anti-shock performance and durability of concrete using fiber-reinforcement, there are still drawback on workability with interruption of fibers such as fiber-ball. Hence to solve this problem, in previous research, the optimum combination of fibers to improve workability of HPFRCC. In this research, based on the result of previous research, to improve the workability further, various fine aggregate contents is evaluated on workability, and the most appropriate mixing proportion is suggested.

  • Recently, there are many research for increasing tensile strength of concrete using fiber-reinforced mortar. Especially, the research about the high ductile concrete with fiber-reinforcement which behaves strain-hardening (defined as HPFRCC) is performed while it has the drawback of decreasing workability because of interruption of fibers such as fiber-ball effect. Hence to solve this problem, as a previous research, combination of metal fiber and organic fiber was suggested. Although this research achieved favorable result of workability of HPFRCC, the research scope was concentrated on workability of the mortar. Therefore, in this research, based on the fiber-combination of previous research, the tensile properties is evaluated depending on water-to-binder ratios to obtain improved tensile performance.

  • In an indentation approach, the smooth rigid spherical ball penetrated into a deformable flat is considered for the study based on contact mechanics approach. The elastic-plastic frictionless spherical indentation analysis has been under taken in the finite element analysis using "ABAQUS" and experimental study. The spherical indentation has been studied for the materials like steel, aluminium, copper and brass with an identical spherical indenter for diverse indentation depths. The springback analysis is executed for studying the actual indentation depth after the indenter is unloaded. In the springback simulation, the material recovers its elastic deformation after the indenter is unloaded. The residual diameter and depth of an indentation for various materials are measured and compared with simulation results. It shows a good agreement between the simulation and an experimental studies.

  • Bio-based polyester polyols were synthesized using esterification with azelaic acid, sebacic acid, and 1,3-propanediol. Polyurethanes were prepared using chain extenders (1,4-Butanediol, 1,3-Propanediol, and isosorbide) and 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate with a mixing ratio of 1:1:1.1. Subsequently, the properties of the polymers prepared using the different chain extenders were compared. The synthesis of polyurethane was confirmed by FT-IR, TGA, and GPC. The mechanical properties (hardness, ball rebound, and tensile strength) of the materials were analyzed using shore A tester, taber abrasion, and UTM. heat, chemical, and water resistances of the prepared materials were measured by comparing the tensile strengths according to external changes.

  • In this paper, global full 3D finite element analysis fatigue models are constructed for flip-chip BGA on board to predict the creep fatigue life of solder joints during the thermal cycling test. The fatigue model applied is based on Darveaux's empirical equation approach with non-linear viscoplastic analysis of solder joints. It was estimated by the creep life as the variations of the four kinds of thermal cycling test conditions, pad structure, composition and size of solder ball. The shortest fatigue life of results was obtained at the thermal cycling testing condition of -65℃ ∼ 150℃. It was increased about 3.5 times in comparison with that of 0℃ ∼ 100℃. As the change of pad structure at the same other conditions, the fatigue life of SMD structure increased about 5.7% as compared with NSMD structure. Consequently, it was confirmed that the fatigue life became short as the creep strain energy density increased in solder joint.

  • There are many occasions on which the critical decisions should be made in software projects. Those decisions are basically related to estimating and predicting project parameters such as costs, efforts, and duration. The project managers are looking for methods to make better decisions. The decisions about project parameters are recommended to be performed based on historical data of Similar projects. The measures of the tasks in past projects may have different shapes of distributions. we need to add those measures to get a predicted project measures. To add measures with different shapes of distribution, we need to use Monte Carlo Simulation. In this paper, we suggest applying Monte Carlo Simulation for supporting decision makings in software project. We implemented best-fit case and scheduling estimations with Cristal Ball, a commercial product of Monte Carlo simulation and showed how the suggested approach supports those critical decision makings.

  • The industrial induction motor is widely used in the rotating electrical machine for the transmission of power. It is very reliable equipment, but it could lead to the loss of production and lift when failure occurs. Therefore, the failure data is acquired and analyzed by attaching an exclusive instrument to existing induction motor. However, these instruments could lead to side effects, increasing the production costs, because they are very expensive. The purpose of this study is the development of an induction motor bearing failure diagnosis system constructed using LabVIEW which can be supplied the kernelled function, process monitoring and current signature analysis. In addition, the availability and reasonability of the constructed system was examined for an induction motor with failure defects in outer raceway and ball bearing. From the results, it shows that failure diagnosis system constructed is useful for real-time monitoring with detection of bearing defects over the web.

  • Al-based composites reinforced with SiC particulate were fabricated using a thermal spray process, and dry sliding wear behavior of the composites was investigated. Pre-mixed Al and SiC powders were sprayed on an A16061 substrate by flame spraying, and dry sliding wear test were performed under various sliding speed and applied load conditions against ${Al_2}{O_3}$ ball. Wear behavior of the composites was studied by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). And build-up mechanism of MML on the worn surface of the composites was examined. It was revealed that these MML was formed of debris from the contact surface of the composites and effected to wear behavior of the composites protecting the contact surface of the composites.

  • Conventional robot manipulators actuated by motors with the speed reducer such as the harmonic drive have weakness in the load capacity, since the speed reducer does not have enough strength. To improve this, a new type of robot actuator based on the four-bar-link mechanism driven by the ball screw was constructed. Also, a new type of revolute robot manipulator composed of the developed actuators was developed. But, modelling errors occur due to the off-set from the nominal model since the exact modeling of the complex inertia variation of the four-bar-link actuator is very difficult. To control the proposed robot along the prescribed trajectory, a sliding mode control algorithm was applied with compensation function for the modeling errors. To show performance of the proposed controller, a computer simulation was performed, and its results was presented.
