  • This paper considers the problem of global adaptive regulation for a class of nonlinear systems which have multiple unknown virtual control coefficient. By using a new parameter estimator and backstepping technique, we design a smooth state feedback control law, parameter update laws that estimate the unknown virtual control coefficients, and a continuously differentiable Lyapunov function which is positive definite and proper.

  • The paper is extending output feedback nonlinear control and backstepping approaches to a class of systems approximately diffeomorphic to output feedback systems. The uncertainties under consideration are of two types - parametric and non-parametric. The non-parametric terms are assumed to be bounded by unknown constants. The backstepping procedure is applied to adapt with respect to both parametric uncertainties and the upper bound of non-parametric uncertainties.

  • In this paper, a robust adaptive backstepping controller will be proposed for the speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motors in using electrical vehicles. Stator resistance, damping coefficient, load torque are considered as uncertainties and noise generated at applying load torque to motor is also considered. It shows that the backstepping algorithm can be used to solve the problems of nonlinear system very well and robust controller can be designed without the variation of adaptive law. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Proposed controller.

  • In this paper a robust controller using adaptive backstepping technique is proposed to control the speed of a wind turbine system. To make wind power generation truly cost effective and reliable, advanced and robust control algorithms are derived to on-line adjust the excitation winding voltage of the generator based on both mechanical and electrical dynamics. This method is shown to be able to achieve smooth and asymptotic rotor position tracking, as justified by analysis.

  • In this paper a robust controller using adaptive backstepping technique is proposed to control the position of wind power generation system. To make wind power generation truly cost effective and reliable, advanced and robust control algorithms are derived to on-line adjust the excitation winding voltage of the generator based on both mechanical and electrical dynamics.   • In this paper, we present a global adaptive output feedback control scheme for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems to which adaptive observer backstepping method may not be applicable directly. The allowed output feedback structure includes quadratic and multiplicative dependency of unmeasured states. Our novel design technique employs a change of coordinates and adaptive backstepping.   • The guidance controller of the conventional aircraft consists of inner-loop (autopilot) and outer-loop (guidance). If the guidance controller can be designed as an integrated guidance and control (IGC), the various advantages exist. The integrated guidance and control formulation can compensate for the effect of autopilot lag. An integrated approach also helps avoid the iterative procedure involved in tuning the guidance and autopilot subsystems, if designed separately. Integrated design is also less susceptible to saturation and stability problems. This paper presents an approach to IGC design for the unpowered air vehicle with the only flaperon using a combination of adaptive output feedback inversion and backstepping techniques. Adaptive neural networks are trained online with available measurements to compensate for unmodeled nonlinearities in the design process.

  • In this paper, we present an adaptive output feedback control scheme for a class of uncertain nonlinear output-feedback form with time-varying parameters to which adaptive observer backstepping technique may not be applicable directly. In observer design, with the introduction of design function, we can deal with time-varying parameters in a very effective way. By the presented scheme, estimation error can be tuned to a desired small region around the origin via the design constants. Consequently, the observer with the presented design functions and the backstepping methodology achieve a robust regulation of the output tracking error while maintaining boundedness of all the signals and states.

  • Due to the difficulty in solving the Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs equation, the nonlinear optimal control approach is not very practical in general. To overcome this problem, Ezal et al. (2000) first solved a linear optimal control problem for the linearized model of a nonlinear system given in the strict-feedback form. Then, using the backstepping procedure, a nonlinear feedback controller was designed where the linear part is same as the linear feedback obtained from the linear optimal control design. However, their construction is based on the cancellation of the high order nonlinearity, which limits the application to the smooth ($C^{\infty}$) vector fields. In this paper, we develop an alternative method for backstepping procedure, so that the vector field can be just $C^1$, which allows this approach to be applicable to much larger class of nonlinear systems.

  • In this study, we propose the terrain following algorithm using model predictive control and nonlinear disturbance observer-based backstepping sliding mode controller for an aircraft system. Terrain following is important for military missions because it helps the aircraft avoid detection by the enemy radar. The model predictive control is used to replace the generating trajectory and guidance with the flight path angle constraint. In addition, the aircraft is affected to the parameter uncertainty and unknown disturbance such as wind near the mountainous terrain. Therefore, we suggest the nonlinear disturbance-based backstepping sliding mode control method for the aircraft that has highly nonlinearity to enhance flight path angle tracking performance. Through the numerical simulation, the proposed method showed the better tracking performance than the traditional backstepping method. Furthermore, the proposed method presented the terrain following maneuver maintaining the desired altitude.
