We suggest the fluorescence endoscope system that has light source apparatus providing selectable white or excitation light. White light source generates normal color images and is easily switched over to excitation light with the wide spectrum range from 380 nm to 580 nm. 5-ALA is deposited selectively in the abnormal tissue like cancer and causes fluorescence in the red spectrum range when excited by blue spectrum range. In addition, the others of excitation light make the color background image by reflected light to allow accurate orientation and visualization of the abnormal tissue and around. According to clinical studies, the fluorescence intensity contrast that defines the fluorescence intensity of lesion over the fluorescence intensity of around has more than 2 in tumour. Proposed system is useful and objective way in early diagnosis. Furthermore, it can be used in the biopsy for tumour classification at the highest fluorescence intensity point.
Purpose: Basic design of virtual colored overlay, film overlay, colored lenses and colored glasses for people with Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome. Methods: I calculated sRGB and RGB values of the overlays from measured data. I evaluated the relationship between the combinational chromaticities composed of Galaxy Tab white background and film overlays and the chromaticities of pure film overlays. Results: Implementable sRGB and RGB values of the overlays is calculated. The chromaticities of film overlays are different from them with white paper background and them with Galaxy Tab's white background, but showed a certain relationship between them. Light transmittances of Intuitive Overlay are the most (59%-79%) among them and average light reflectance of Reading Ruler is least(8%). Conclusions: The sRGB values and the RGB values are directly applicable to implement assistive tools and the light transmittances are used to calculate ${\alpha}$, transparency of virtual overlay in IT devices. It is recommended to consider the chromaticity of white color in implementing virtual colored overlay in the case which the chromaticity is considerably different to theoretical chromaticity of white color.
Background: LIGHT (TNFSF14) is a member of tumor necrosis factor superfamily and is the ligand for TR2 (TNFRSF14/HVEM). LIGHT is known to have proinflammatory roles in atherosclerosis. Methods: To find out the expression pattern of LIGHT in atherosclerotic plaques, immunohistochemical analysis was performed on human carotid atherosclerotic plaque specimens. LIGHT induced atherogenic events using human monocytic cell line THP-1 were also investigated. Results: Immunohistochemical analysis revealed expression of LIGHT and TR2 in foam cell rich regions in the atherosclerotic plaques. Double immunohistochemical analysis further confirmed the expression of LIGHT in foam cells. Stimulation of THP-1 cells, which express TR2, with either recombinant LIGHT or immobilized anti-TR2 monoclonal antibody induced interleukin-8 and matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-9. Electrophoretic mobility shift assay demonstrated that LIGHT induces nuclear localization of transcription factor, nuclear factor $(NF)-{\kappa}B$. LIGHT induced activation of MMP-9 is mediated by $NF-{\kappa}B$, since treatment of THP-1 cells with the $NF-{\kappa}B$ inhibitor PDTC (pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate) completely blocked the activation of MMP-9. Conclusion: These data indicate that LIGHT is expressed in foam cells in atherosclerotic plaques and is involved in atherogenesis through activation of pro-atherogenic cytokine IL-8 and destabilization of plaque by inducing matrix degrading enzyme.
Background: Mixed breeding herb Viola collina Besser, which produces both chasmogamous and cleistogamous flower, has limited habitats under closed canopy and short and early flowering timing, making it relatively more vulnerable to climate change. To better understand the effect of light and nutrient on the flower formation and vegetative growth of V. collina, a mesocosm experiment was conducted. Two-by-two factorial treatments of two light conditions (100% and 60% of natural light) and two fertilizer treatment conditions (fertilized and not fertilized) were applied in the mesocosm experiment. Results: The number of flowers, including chamogamous and cleistogamous flowers, was highest (5.65/pot) under 60% light and fertilized condition and lowest (1.41/pot) under 100% light and not-fertilized condition. However, above ground vegetative growth was highest (2.89 g/pot) under 100% light and fertilized condition and lowest (2.38 g/pot) under 60% light and not-fertilized condition. Above ground biomass to belowground biomass ratio was highest (1.50) under 60% light and fertilized condition and lowest (1.26) under 100% light and fertilized condition. Conclusions: This study showed that high light and nutrient are responsible for the vegetative growth, though the effect of fertilizer was reduced due to allocation and retainment of nutrients. In addition, the low light is necessary to make flowers, especially chasmogamous flowers.
Effect of the pH, molar ratio of Cu(II)/EDTA, concentration of Cu(II)-EDTA and ionic strength on the photocatalytic oxidation(PCO) of Cu(II)-EDTA in solar light was studied in this work. Experimental results in this work were compared with previous results obtained with UV-lamp. In the kinetics, Cu(II)-EDTA decomposition was favorable below neutral pH. The removal of Cu(II) and DOC was favorable as $TiO_2$ dosage increased. The initial rate for the decomplexation of Cu(II)-EDTA linearly increased as the concentration of Cu(II)-EDTA increased. The removal of Cu(II) and DOC was not much affected by variation of ionic strength with $NaClO_4$ as a background ion while much reduction was observed in the presence of background ions having higher formal charges. The removal trend of Cu(II) and DOC with variation of ionic strength and concentration of Cu(II)-EDTA in solar light was similar with that in UV light. Variation of the molar ratio of Cu(II)/EDTA showed a negligible effect on the removal of both Cu(II) and DOC. However, removal of both Cu(II) and DOC was two-times greater than that previous results obtained with UV light.
The First stars (Pop.III stars) in the universe are expected to be formed between the recombination era at z - 1100 and the most distant quasar (z - 8). They have never been directly detected due to its faintness so far, but can be observed as a background radiation at around 1${\mu}m$ which is called the Cosmic Near-Infrared Background (CNB). Main part of the CNB is thought to be redshifted Lyman-alpha from gas clouds surrounding the Pop.III stars. Until now, the COBE (COsmic Background Explorer) and the IRTS (Infrared Telescope in Space) observed excess emission over the background due to galaxies. To confirm the COBE and the IRTS results and pursue more observational evidences, we carried out the sounding rocket experiment named the Cosmic Infrared Background ExpeRiment (CIBER). The CIBER is successfully launched on July 10, 2010 at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, USA. It consists of three kinds of instruments. We report the results obtained by LRS (Low Resolution Spectrometer) which is developed to fill the uncovered spectrum around 1${\mu}m$. LRS is a refractive telescope of 5.5 cm aperture with spectral resolution of 20 - 30 and wavelength coverage of 0.7 to 2.0${\mu}m$. After subtracting foreground components (zodiacal light, integrated star light and diffuse galactic light) from the sky brightness of observed five fields, there remained significant residual emission (even for the lower limit case) consistent with the IRTS and the COBE results. In addition, there exists a clear gap at 0.7 - 0.8${\mu}m$ in the CNB spectrum over the background due to galaxies according to recent results (Matsuoka et al. 2011; Mattila et al. 2011). The origin of the excess emission could be ascribed to the Pop.III stars with its active era of z = 7 - 10.

Detecting a moving object from videos and tracking it are basic and necessary preprocessing steps in many video systems like object recognition, context aware, and intelligent visual surveillance. In this paper, we propose a method that is able to detect a moving object quickly and accurately in a condition that background and light change in a real time. Furthermore, our system detects strongly an object in a condition that the target object is covered with other objects. For effective detection, effective Eigen-space and FCM are combined and employed, and a CONDENSATION algorithm is used to trace a detected object strongly. First, training data collected from a background image are linear-transformed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Second, an Eigen-background is organized from selected principal components having excellent discrimination ability on an object and a background. Next, an object is detected with FCM that uses a convolution result of the Eigen-vector of previous steps and the input image. Finally, an object is tracked by using coordinates of an detected object as an input value of condensation algorithm. Images including various moving objects in a same time are collected and used as training data to realize our system that is able to be adapted to change of light and background in a fixed camera. The result of test shows that the proposed method detects an object strongly in a condition having a change of light and a background, and partial movement of an object.

Remote-sensing optical payloads, especially hyperspectral imagers, have particular issues with stray light because they often encounter high-contrast target/background conditions, such as sun glint. While developing an optical payload, we usually apply several stray-light analysis methods, including forward and backward analyses, separately or in combination, to support lens design and optomechanical design. In addition, we often characterize the stray-light response over a full field to support calibration, or when developing an algorithm to correct stray-light errors. For this purpose, we usually use forward analysis across the entire field, but this requires a tremendous amount of computational time. In this paper, we propose a sequence of forward-backward-forward analyses to more effectively investigate the through-field response of stray light, utilizing the combined advantages of the individual methods. The application is an airborne hyperspectral imager for creating hyperspectral maps from 900 to 1700 nm in a 5-nm-continuous band. With the proposed method, we have investigated the through-field response of stray light to an effective accuracy of 0.1°, while reducing computation time to 1/17th of that for a conventional, forward-only stray-light analysis.

In general, the background light that is produced during the reset period deteriorates the dark room contrast ratio in AC PDP. In this paper, we propose a modified ramp reset pulse that can reduce the background light to an imperceptible level. In the new reset waveform, the discharges between the scan and sustain electrodes are minimized by applying a positive bias voltage to the sustain electrode and only the weak discharges between the scan and address electrodes are found to occur during the reset period. We also adopted the MgO coated phosphor layer to improve the address voltage margin that was reduced when the bias voltage in the modified ramp reset waveform was applied. As a result, the address voltage margin of 45 V which is the same level of the conventional method was ortained and the dark room contrast ratio was improved up to 7500 : 1.
