  • Life expectancy has increased and people are more concerned with keeping their 'youth'. Appearance is a competitive edge and people are caught up in a baby face fad that has expanded into a culture and beauty trend. This study examined the definitions and phrenological characteristics of a baby face and the causes of the baby face fad in a review of the baby face as a "sociocultural and beauty cultural code" based on literature, journals, previous papers, and Internet materials. Anatomically speaking, a "baby face" refers to a face that keeps the features of a child's face without aging signs. The baby face fad gained momentum due to the influences of the digital culture, the encouragement of the mass media, changes to the social structure, dietary improvements, new living styles, and an evolving aesthetic sense. The results reveal the sociocultural backgrounds behind the "baby face fad" settling down as a part of culture in addition to the phrenological characteristics of a baby face. It is also estimated that the baby face fad could affect the beauty culture and trends as a social phenomena.

Two hypotheses were supported: 'There will be a difference in perception of the expression technique of baby face makeup depending on the general characteristics', and the makeup technique for creating a baby face image is an important function for both men and women, as well as appearance. As a 'physical resource' for social activities, it was confirmed that there is an improvement in the efficiency of the body and mind and an outstanding improvement in mental ability in daily life. Through the results of the study on 'expression of baby face image makeup', awareness and interest in baby face images are high, but research on the production of baby face images is needed. The need for facial expression elements for baby face makeup is expected to be used as basic data for developing baby face images, and this study focuses on external face management for baby face images and baby face makeup.

  • Using the adaptation aftereffect paradigm, this study investigated whether adaptation to baby schema features of the face and body could affect facial age perceptions. In Experiment 1, participants were asked to determine whether the test faces that morphed at a certain ratio of a baby face and an adult face were perceived as 'baby' or 'adult' after being adapted to either a baby or an adult face. The result of Experiment 1 showed that after being adapted to baby faces, test faces were assessed as belonging to an adult more often than when being adapted to adult faces. In the subsequent experiments, participants carried out the same facial age judgment task after being adapted to baby or adult body silhouettes (Experiment 2) or hand images (Experiment 3). The results revealed that age perceptions were biased in the direction of the adaptors (i.e., an assimilative aftereffect) after adaptation to body silhouettes (Experiment 2) but did not change after being adapted to hands (Experiment 3). The present study showed that contrastive aftereffects in the perception of facial age were induced by adaptation to the baby face but failed to determine the cross-category transfer of age adaptation from hands or body silhouettes to faces.

In terms of a pilot study, we developed two alternative models tested at two different convenience samples. The first sample consisted of 82 aging baby boomers aged 55.65 (sample 1) and the second one consisted of 458 citizens aged 18.45 (sample 2). Through this research approach, we intended to lead to a better understanding of perceived value of physical exercise in the sporting goods marketing context for aging baby boomers. We addressed the core research themes of our study using a convenience survey. Data was collected by means of face to face interviews during the seven week period. The research results showed that the "model 2" better predicts perceived value of physical exercise as a leisure activity for aging baby boomers. We believe that the final findings of our research try can recognize the differences in buying behaviors between aging baby boomers and other target markets and advance marketers of sporting goods strategic tries regarding to consumer strategy management at a store level.

  • Matemal behaviors of Korean mothers of one-year-old infants (26 boys and 21 girls) were observed at home. Mothers were from middle to upper-middle class families in Seoul. Trained observers visited the infant's home for 3 to 4 hours and observed infant-mother interactions in natural situation. After the home visit, observers sorted the Maternal Behavior Q-set into 9 piles, from most characteristics to least characteristics of the mothers. In general, Korean mothers were quite sensitive and responsive in their interactions with one-year-old babies. Mothers interpreted baby's cues correctly, noticed when baby was distressed, and slowed pace down to wait for baby's response. Maternal behaviors were somewhat different according to whether they interacted with boys or girls. Mothers of boys were observed to be less sensitive in their interactions than mothers of girls. Mothers of boys were more unaware of or insensitive to baby's signs of distress, their responses were more delayed, and provided baby to constant and unphased barrage of stimulation thus made baby overwhelmed. In contrast, mothers of girls enjoyed face-to-face interactions, slowed pace down, and their interactions revolved around baby's tempo and state.
