  • In a shipyard, it is hard to predict block movement due to the uncertainty caused during the long period of shipbuilding operations. For this reason, block movement is rarely scheduled, while main operations such as assembly, outfitting and painting are scheduled properly. Nonetheless, the high operating costs of block movement compel task managers to attempt its management. To resolve this dilemma, this paper proposes a new block movement analysis framework consisting of the following operations: understanding the entire process, log clustering to obtain manageable processes, discovering the process model and detecting exceptional processes. The proposed framework applies fuzzy mining and trace clustering among the process mining technologies to find main process and define process models easily. We also propose additional methodologies including adjustment of the semantic expression level for process instances to obtain an interpretable process model, definition of each cluster's process model, detection of exceptional processes, and others. The effectiveness of the proposed framework was verified in a case study using real-world event logs generated from the Block Process Monitoring System (BPMS).

  • A Business Process Management System(BPMS) requires transaction management to guarantee reliability for transactions. Though several transaction protocols have been suggested for the transaction management, the difference of transaction protocols interrupts interoperability among transaction management systems. In this paper, a business process transaction based on semantics is suggested. It is defined based on the static semantics and the operational semantics. As the static semantics defines the ontologies for transaction states and transaction messages using Web Ontology Language(OWL), it solves the difference of expression for the concepts of transaction protocols. As the operational semantics defines state transitions of business process transactions using Abstract State Machine(ASM), it can guarantee formalism for transaction operations. The operational semantics refers to the state ontology and message ontology defined in the static semantics. This approach can enhance interoperability among various transaction protocols, increase the understandability for the transaction protocols, and support autonomous transaction execution and systematic transaction monitoring.

  • Many of today's businesses need IT system's flexibility for on-demand business which can be rapidly adapted to environment changes. Service oriented architecture (SOA) provides the infrastructure which makes business flexibility possible under the on-demand operating environment. Therefore, to satisfy these requirements, new approach for assuring business flexibility and enhancing reuse is needed. In this paper, we propose an approach for developing a business process family model (BPFM) in which the variabilities in business process family can be explicitly represented by using the variability analysis method of software product line. In addition, we describe the supporting tool for this approach. It can model the BPFM and generate automatically BPMs through decision and pruning process from BPFM. By using our approach, the business and its IT system can correspond to business environment changes rapidly and efficiently.
