Administration Route Dependency of Distribution of Distribution pf PEGylated Recombinant Human Tumor Necrosis Factor Binding Protein (rhTNFbp-PEG20K dimer) following i.v. and s.c. Injection

  • Administration route dependency on the distribution of PEGylated recombinant human turor necrosis factor binding protein (rhTNFbp-PEG20K dimer) was observed following a subcutaneous (sc) and an intravenous (iv) administrationin rats. ehTNFbp-PEG20K dimer is composed of two rhTNGbp molecules (molecular weight 18, 278 daltons each) joined by polyethylene glycol 2000(PEG30K). The steady state distribution volume of rhTNFbp-PEG20K was 55 m/kg and 359 ml/kg following the i.v. and s.c. administrations, respectively. These results suggest that the distribution of ehTNFbp-PEG20K is limited within the cpillary space after i.v. administration, while rhTNFbp-PEG20K can distribute into a space (35.9% of body weight) which is between extracellylar space and total body water. A lymphatic absorption may paly a role in the distribution of rhTNFbp-PEF20K dimer following the sc administration. The present study suggests that the administration route of a lartge protein molecule should be determined depedning upon target sites.

The Experiment on The Efficiency of Heating System for Improving Farm Houses (농촌주택 개량을 위한 난방 효율 시험)

  • The purpose of this study is to test and compare the efficiency of heating-system for materials and construction of the wall, ceiling and window in soil brick house, cement house and boulder house respectively, in order to construct ideal farm houses in rural area. The results obtained were as follows: 1. In heat conservation due to construction of walls the thermal efficiency of cement brick house was equivalent to 66.3% of that of soil brick house, and boulder house 60.3% 2. In the case of ceiling, the thermal efficiency of paper ceiling was amounted to 84.2% of that of the composite ceiling (thickness 6mm veneer+thickness. l0m chaffs), and the common ceiling putting on soil above the ceiling, 76% of the composite while the efficiency of the ceiling putting on chaffs above them was 15.8% higher than that of the paper. 3. In the case of improving the window, the double type was 12% higher than. the efficiency of single type. 4. The warming velocity of conventional house was slower but the velocity of radiation was quicker than that of experimental one. It was thought to be due to unscietific constructions of the room bottom, fire inlet and chimney, 5. The temperature gradient line was not dependad upon the amount of throwing into fuel in the rural farm house. 6. It was concluded that the final thermal efficiency of the conventional farm house was 10.6% lower than that of experimental farm house.

Coupled Finite Element Analysis for Semi-implicit Linear and Fully-implicit Nonlinear Scheme in Partially Saturated Porous Medium

  • The paper presents a comparison between a semi-implicit time integration linear finite element implementation and fully-implicit nonlinear Newton-Raphson finite element implementation of a triphasic small strain mixture formulation of an elastic partially saturated porous medium. The pore air phase pressure pa is assumed atmospheric, i.e., $p_a$ = 0, although the formulation and implementation are general to handle increase in pore air pressure as a result of loading, if needed. The solid skeleton phase is assumed linear isotropic elastic and partially saturated 'consolidation' in the presence of surface infiltration and traction is simulated. The verification of the implementation against an analytical solution for partially saturated pore water flow (no deformation) and comparison between the two implementations is presented and the important of the porosity-dependent nature of the partially saturated permeability is assessed on comparison with a commercial code for the partially saturated flow with deformation. As a result, the response of partially saturated permeability subjected to the porosity influences on the saturation of a soil, and the different behaviors of the partially saturated soil between staggered and monolithic coupled programs is worth of attention because the negative pore water pressure in the partially saturated soil depends on the difference.

Longitudinal Pattern of Large Wood Distribution in Mountain Streams (산지계류에 있어서 유목의 종단적 분포특성)

  • Whereas recent researches have elucidated the positive ecological roles of large wood (LW) in fishbearing channels, LW is also recognized as a negative factor of log-laden debris flows and floods in densely populated areas. However in Republic of Korea, no study has investigated longitudinal variations of LW distribution and dynamic along the stream corridor. Hence to elucidate 1) physical factors controlling longitudinal distribution of LW and 2) their effect on variation in LW load amount, we surveyed the amount of LW with respect to channel morphology in a mountain stream, originated from Mt. Ki-ryong in Inje, Gangwondo. Model selection in the Generalized Linear Model procedure revealed that number of boulder (greater than or equal to 1.0 m in diameter), bankfull channel width and their interaction were the best predictors explaining LW load volume per unit channel segment area (unit LW load). In general, boulders scattered within small mountain streams influence LW retention as flow obstructions. However, in this study, we found that the effect of the boulders vary with the channel width; that is, whereas the unit LW load in the segment with narrow channel width increased continuously with increasing boulder number, it in the segment with wide channel width did not depend on the boulder number. This should be because that, in two channels having different widths, the rates of channel widths reduced by boulders are different although boulder numbers are same. Our findings on LW load varying with physical factors (i.e., interaction of boulder number and channel width) along the stream corridor suggest understanding for longitudinal continuum of hydrogeomorphic and ecologic characteristics in stream environments, and these should be carefully applied into the erosion control works for systematic watershed management and subsequent disaster prevention.

  • Diethyl itaconate was found to react tetrafluoroethylene, trifluorochloroethylene, and 1,1-difluoro-2,2-dichloroethylene quite rendily at $180^{\circ}C$ to form 1-carboxy-2,2,3,3,-tetrahalo-cyclobutane ethanoic acid derivatives ${C{\underline{X_2-CF_2-CH_2-}}C-(COOEt)-CH_2COOEt$, where X is Cl or F). Diethylcitraconate failed to yeild any cycloaddition products. The Physical and Chemical properties of the above esters and their dericatives are characterized and compared with other similar ring compounds.

Daytime and Nighttime Photochemical Reactions of the Pure Oxygen System (순수 산소계의 주간 및 야간 광화학반응)

  • Studies of photochemical reactions of the pure oxygen atmosphere are made using reaction rate constants and atmospheric data available in the latest literature. The daytime and nighttime variations in atomic oxygen and ozone are computed, based on three different conditions: 1) photochemical equilibrium, 2) direct integrations of the rate equations with modifications and approximation to the equations, and 3) by numerical integrations. The departure from the photochemical equilibrium concentrations during day and nighttime are discussed by comparing the results obtaind from the three conditions.
