Fault Tolerant Control Methods for Dual Type Independent Multi-Phase BLDC Motor under the Open-Switch Fault Conditions

  • Dual type Independent multi-phase BLDC Motor (DI-BLDCM) is designed to be robust to faulty conditions of motor and drive system. Despite the efforts of the motor design, open-switch faults of DI-BLDCM drive system cause the torque ripple of the motor. This torque ripple makes unwanted sound noise and mechanical vibration of associated systems. This paper proposes four methods for compensating the torque ripple and compares the characteristics of each proposed method. All proposed methods are able to reduce the torque ripple to similar level of the healthy condition, although the motor operates in open-switch fault conditions. However, these methods have different characteristics in various fault conditions. Therefore, from the results of the comparison, the suitable method is selected for the various fault conditions. The feasibility of the proposed methods is proved by the several experimental results.

  • 이 논문은 브리시리스 직류전동기의 구동 인버터의 실시간 데이터를 이용한 고장진단에 관한 것이다. 구동 인버터의 고장유형을 파악하여 주요 고장증세별로 분류하고, 고장결과를 예측하여 ASCL로 시뮬레이션함으로써 지식 베이스로 구성하였다. 구동 인버터에 대해 실시간으로 감시된 데이터는 전문가 시스템의 추론기관에서 시뮬레이션된 지식베이스와 비교하게 된다. 고장이 발생하면, 운전을 중지시킨 후, 전문가 추론을 함으로써 고장원인을 진단한다. 이로써 구동 인버터에 대해 전문적인 지식을 갖고 있지 않는 사용자에게, 고장원인 제거 및 수리대책에 관한 전문가의 지식을 신속히 제공하는 것이다.

  • This paper presents an efficient 2D finite element analysis(FEA) for brushless DC motor (BLDCM) taking into account the eddy current and lamination effect of stator. In BLDCM, the dynamic characteristic analysis considering the eddy current and driving circuit is applied for the accurate prediction of motor performance in high speed because the eddy current loss is proportional of square of the driving frequency. According to the variation of lamination number, the characteristics of electro magnetic force, torque, and eddy current loss are analyzed. From the results, it is known that the effect of the lamination of stator on the eddy current loss is verified.

  • ADD has developed a special BLDCM(brushless d.c. motor) that has small size and high power density. The model of BLDCM is like that of advanced nation. Design, production and test carried out by ADD and HYOSUNG Corp.. We simulated back EMF of phase, inductance of line and eddy current loss of rotor after we tested the motor at 80 Kw. According to analysis we have established the performance of 100Kw power recently. There are the same results that we designed.

  • In this paper a simple method of a position control for brushless DC motor is presented. For precise position control, a high performance torque controller is needed and a novel current control method is proposed. The current controller detects the uncommutating mode current for every 60.deg. (elec. angle) and controls it with PI controller. The current control loop includes the feedforward of back EMF and the feedforward of the neutral voltage between the neutral point of the inverter and the neutral point of the machine. In the position control, the acceleration pattern is calculated from the position reference. Then the speed trajectory is calculated from the acceleration pattern. The experimental results are presented to verify the proposed methods.

  • In this paper, a BLDC motor and its controller are developed for treadmill application. Motor size and structure are restricted in the design stage due to the limited and enclosed space of the treadmill. The shape of the rotor magnet is analyzed using FEM with restricted design conditions. Manufacturing, cost and performance are also considered. A biomechanical analysis of human locomotion with the change of velocity is considered in the design of the controller. For stable operation of the treadmill, current and temperature are to be detected by the DSP controller. The prototype BLDCM and its controller are tested to verify its performances.

  • This paper presents characteristics analysis of brushless DC motor(BLDCM) which is driven by four types of PWM mode. The Phase current, radial forte and torque ripples are generated differently at each PWM mode. So they have different influences on motor characteristics. In this paper, we analyzed characteristics of BLDCM using time-stepped voltage source finite element method. The effect of four types of PWM mode had been confirmed by comparing each phase current and torque ripple waveform. The compared simulation result is useful to select a better PWM mode.

  • This paper presents the optimal design reducing the rotor inertia in order to improve the driving characteristic of BLDCM for robots. The parallel Genetic Algorithm is performed to rotor inertia minimization in optimal design. Also, velocity profile with finite jerk method is introduced to reduce vibration of BLDCM. As a result, a torque characteristic is same although rotor inertia is reduced 2/3 compared with prototype model. And, maximum vibration value is reduced by 63.4[%1 according to apply finite jerk.

  • Since hub wheel BLDC Motor consisted of wheel and BLDCM (Brushless DC Motor) without gear reducer has high efficiency and low operation noise, it can be utilized to a driving wheel at some light rail systems. However, installing sensors for speedometer on a Hub-Wheel motor is not easy, so it requires a different speed control mechanism method for speed measurement. This paper introduces a speed control method based on simple mathematical model which uses discrete Kalman Filter to estimate and control the speed of the motor.
