Due to the labor-intensiveness, high investment cost, long execution time, frequent change orders, and many stakeholders in a BIM project, a BIM manager is bound to face a lot of risks to make decisions in cost managing process. Since the productivity of a BIM team will affect the execution cost, this study investigates a simple method of assessing the productivity of a BIM team using the working timesheet records of the team. In this research, the productivity of a BIM team is defined as the effective working floor area (in square meters) of BIM uses per labor-time (in man-months) spent by the team. After the applicability of this method is tested by regression analysis using data from 5 real BIM projects in the construction phase, it is found that the simple productivity definition adopted in the method, although easy-to-implement, does not produce a statistically constant productivity value. More research is therefore needed in the future to devise better indicator(s) for assessing the productivity of a BIM team.

Recent AEC industry, is introducing BIM based design process which mainly focuses on collaboration and integration. Since BIM has characteristic of utilizing several design libraries in various fields across the AEC industry, obtaining BIM libraries are essential for introducing and applying the BIM successfully. Thus, creating BIM libraries and guidelines for various fields are needed. BIM libraries can be categorized into disciplines such as architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical industries. Especially, companies in mechanical industry possesses design data for creating BIM library. Due to the fact, we standardized the property information for BIM libraries. And for BIM library production, we have developed a program which uses neutral format to convert 3D MCAD data designed by $NX^{TM}$ into $Revit^{TM}$ Family. Finally, we developed a program that merges property information to Revit Family file.

Small and middle sized architectural design firms still have trouble using BIM (Building Information Modeling) for their tasks, which means that it is necessary to develop BIM Libraries and Technical contents. These BIM libraries should be based on common technical standards that reflect the technical contents to provide optimum BIM design support. This is essential to reduce the technological burden on the design office, because BIM does not just involve the 3D modeling of the design, but provides very important information for calculating the quantity of materials required for the construction and providing materials for the design work. Therefore, this research was aimed at improving the efficiency of the BIM design process by developing a system module based on the BIM technical contents data for the purpose of linking the BIM data and technical contents. The developed system module will be expanded to other uses of BIM in the long term.
The entire construction safety is significantly influenced by proper uses of temporary structures. However, in current practices, temporary structures are used without sufficient planning and analysis on their impact on safety. Consequently, problems in worker safety and loss of productivity are frequently caused related to temporary structures. This paper introduces an approach that uses Building Information Modeling (BIM) to automatically create temporary structures as part of construction plans and identifies potential safety hazards related to the temporary structures. In this study, the type of temporary structure is limited to scaffolding. Automation algorithms were developed and applied to (1) analyze daily construction site conditions (2) create required scaffolding objects, and (3) identify potential safety hazards related to scaffolding. A case study using a real-world construction project demonstrated that scaffolding objects were properly created based on user-input and potential safety hazards were successfully identified without human intervention.
For decades, the productivity issue has been a primary concern for the all stake-holders who participate in domestic construction industry. Especially, between a whole life cycle of building, the construction phase's productivity problem makes or break the entire project. In this respect, the general construction company, who accept the order and construct the building(so called General Contractor), should consider various strategies, such as schedule management, cost management, quality management, inner-crew management, etc., for the productivity improvement., and almost of these management methods have been studied for a long time. But, the researches and studies about the specialty contractor, who construct the building directly in construction site were not sufficiently complete yet. This research begins as an idea which tries to apply the BIM(Building Information Modeling) into the tasks of Specialty contractors for their productivity improvement. And for the effective application of construction BIM to specialty contractors, establish of the BIM project execution plan for them, not the fragmentary adoption of BIM. Therefore, in this paper, we develop the BIM project execution plan for the reinforced concrete companies who conduct the framework construction which located on CP(Critical Path) Especially, we model the "Construction BIM Use List for the RC Work", "BIM Application Master Process" and "BIM Application Detailed Process", and general contractor who use these BIM uses list and process models can manage various specialty contractors about schedule, cost, earned value, quality, safety and environment management systematically.

In order to use BIM as a tool for improving the productivity and quality of products in the construction industry, a BIM model must be created from the design stage first. Infrastructure structures such as bridges and tunnels are mainly created based on three-dimensional alignment in the generation of BIM models. Especially, generation of BIM models based on three-dimensional linearity has high task difficulty and algorithms for automating BIM modeling for railway infra structures have been suggested in previous studies. This study improved the BIM modeling automation algorithm of railway infrastructures and developed a system based on the algorithm so that it can be easily used by ordinary users. The system was built as an add-in system of Autodesk's Revit. As an improvement first, it is possible to arrange different libraries for each pattern, enabling various uses. In addition, it can be created models of several members with a single process and the system can automatically places structures that are added periodically, such as Rock Bolt and Fore Polling. Finally, 3D length information and volume for each pattern are automatically calculated for more accurate 3D-based volume calculation. This study contributes to increasing user accessibility by building a BIM modeling automation algorithm into a system. The system is expected to improve the efficiency of BIM modeling creation of linear-based infra structures, including railway infrastructure.
With Building Information Modeling(BIM) becoming the de facto standard for data sharing in the AEC industry, additional needs have increased to ensure the data integrity of BIM models themselves. Although the Industry Foundation Classes provide an open and neutral data format, its generalized schema leaves it open to data loss and misclassifications This research applied deep learning to automatically classify BIM elements and thus check the integrity of BIM-to-IFC mappings. Multi-view CNN(MVCC) and PointNet, which are two deep learning models customized to learn and classify in 3 dimensional non-euclidean spaces, were used. The analysis was restricted to classifying subtypes of architectural walls. MVCNN resulted in the highest performance, with ACC and F1 score of 0.95 and 0.94. MVCNN unitizes images from multiple perspectives of an element, and was thus able to learn the nuanced differences of wall subtypes. PointNet, on the other hand, lost many of the detailed features as it uses a sample of the point clouds and perceived only the 'skeleton' of the given walls.
Dweller's safety is one of the most important factors for the evaluation of building performance. The process of conventional safety design which is normally performed by the codes and designer's experiences is not enough to check the whole possibilities of unexpected accidents in the built environment. It means that the dwellers might be always exposed by the dangerous situation which should have been removed in the architectural design process. In order to solve this problem, this study intends to introduce a rule-based performance evaluation technology based on BIM(Building Information Modeling). The proposed technology focuses on the real time evaluation of dweller's safety in the ordinary life in the designed building alternatives and uses a commercial BIM tool as a design and evaluation platform.

There has been growing interests in life-cycle project management in the construction industry. A lot of attention is given to Building Information Modeling (BIM) which stores and uses a variety of construction information for the life cycle of project management. However, due to the additional workload arising from BIM, its expected effects versus its input costs are still under discussion in practice. As an attempt to address this issue, one of previous studies suggested an automated linking process by developing Standard Classification Numbering System (SCNS) and Geometry Breakdown Structure (GBS) to enhance the efficiency of integration process of BIM objects, cost, and schedule. Though SCNS and GBS facilitates identifying all different dataset, making object sets and linking schedule activities still needs to be manually done without having an automated tool. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to develop and validate a fully automated integration system for 3D-objects, cost, and schedule. A prototype system for single family homes (Hanok) was developed and tested in order to verify its efficiency.
