Improvement of the Stamping Formability by BHF Control (블랭크 홀딩력 제어에 의한 스탬핑 가공성 향상 기술)

  • A variable blank holding force method is proposed to improve deep drawing characteristics of sheet materials. In this method, the blank holding force (BHF) is controlled throughout a drawing process so that the punch load does not exceed a critical value, which is slightly less than the conventional process with the conforming process with the variable BHF is more flexible than the conventional process with the constant BHF and it could be used for improving the product's quality and drawability. In this paper we suggest a method controlling the BHF as a function of punch travel during the forming process. The optimization BHF curves are determined theoretically and experimentally. It is concluded that for the case of optimum BHF control methods the drawn cup height and the drawing formability achieved by this method are increased than those for constant BHF method. Also, as comparing the wall thickness distribution of the cup drawn by the constant BHF and the optimum BHF control, the BHF control reduce the wall thickness variation of the drawn cup at the cup wall and make the cup thickness distribution more uniformly than the constant BHF.

Effect of Black Garlic and Herb Formulas on Lipid Profiles and Antioxidant Status in Rats by Interval Running Training (간헐적 운동부하에서 흑마늘과 생약재의 복합처방이 흰쥐의 체내 지질 성분 및 항산화에 미치는 영향)

  • To improve the functionality of black garlic drinks, black garlic extract (5%) and five herb extracts (1%) were mixed in 70:30 (v/v) ratios as BHF1, and BHF2 was prepared using a 3X concentration of BHF1. After the black garlic and herb formulas (BHFs) were administered over the course of five weeks in rats by interval running training, the lipid profiles and the antioxidant enzyme activities were tested. The total phenolic content of the BHFs were significantly higher in BHF2 than they were in BHF1, and their antioxidant activities were dependent upon the total phenolic content. No significant difference was found in the total serum protein levels among the rats in the Ex-con group by interval running training and the rats in the BHFs-fed groups. However, the albumin level was significantly higher in the Ex-BHF2 to Ex-con group. AST and ALT activities significantly decreased in the BHFs-fed groups compared to the Ex-con group. In terms of changes in the serum lipid profiles, no significant difference was found between the specimens that underwent interval running training and those that did not undergo interval running training. Triglyceride levels, total cholesterol, LDL-C, and HTR levels in the serum were significantly decreased in the Ex-BHF2 to Ex-con group. No significant difference was found in the total lipid levels in the livers of the BHFs-fed groups and the Ex-con group. The triglyceride levels and total cholesterol levels in the Ex-BHF2 group were significantly lower compared to another group. Hepatic catalase activity was significantly increased in the Ex-BHF2 group, but SOD and GSH-px activities were significantly increased as the concentration of the BHF. The antioxidant enzyme activities by supplementation of BHFs increased; thus, three intakes of BHF each day could improve antioxidant status against different types of oxidative stress.

  • In sheet metal forming process, drawing is typical process. And the key factor of drawing is blank holding force (BHF) A low BHF can cause wrinkling, whereas a high BHF can cause fracture during a deep drawing process. Thus, formability can be influenced by application appropriate BHF. In this study, a variable blank holding force (VBHF) is applied to extend the forming limit by avoiding both wrinkling and fracture. To determine VBHF in drawing process, numerical simulations and statistical analysis are carried out using commercial FEM software.

  • The effect of sheet steel properties and lubrication on the optimal range of blank holding force (BHF) was investigated by means of the model die stamping of various sheet steels. The optimal range of blank holding force was expressed as the range between the lower BHF at flange wrinkling and the upper BHF at local necking. It showed that mechanical properties, thickness of sheet steel and lubrication condition were important factors affecting the optimal range of BHF in sheet steels. Especially, lubrication played an important role in the case of coasted sheet steels.

  • The wrinkling in the flange and wall of a part is a predominant failure mode in stamping of sheet metal parts. In many cases this wrinkling may be eliminated by appropriate control of the blank holding force(BHF), but BHF affects the draw depth. Gotoh had studied the wrinkles under $20{\mu}$ in height. In general, the height of wrinkles could be limited under $200{\mu}$ practically. Therefore small BHF can be allowed so that the depth of drawing could be increased. This paper represents the variation of the wrinkles of flange in the part of cup drawing by using aluminium alloy A1050 and A5052. This simulation is used by the explicit finite elements code $PAM-STAMP^{TM}$. The computed results are compared with the experimental results to show the validity of the analysis.

  • In this study we investigated the shear and forming behavior of chain stitched multi-axial warp knitted fabric preform, so called non-crimp fabric (NCF). The picture frame test was performed to characterize the shear behavior of NCF and also provide material properties for the numerical simulation of its deformation behavior. The forming behavior of NCF with chain stitch were investigated using hemispherical forming tools. The experimental results show that processing conditions such as blank holder force (BHF) and preform shape are crucial to determining the forming behavior of NCF. For instance, an asymmetric formed shape, which is due to the stitches introduced to NCF, turns into a symmetric one as BHF increases. Furthermore the in-plane and out-of buckling (wrinkle), the severance of which were quantified using image processing method, decreases significantly as BHF increases.

  • The weld line location and the weld line movement in stamping with laser-tailor welded blanks(TWB) were investigated through square cup deep drawing tests. The step blank holder was introduced to form TWB of different thicknesses without wrinkling, and the non-uniform blank holding force(BHF) was enforced to control weld line movement. Test results of the blanks with shifted weld lines showed that the large portion of the thinner area could result in a large weld line movement. Careful selection of the weld line location and the BHF control should be adapted in TWB design to avoid failures and to ensure its formability.

  • The square cup drawing of magnesium alloy AZ31 $(aluminum\;3\%,\;Zinc\;1\%)$ sheets was studied by experimental approach in various temperatures (200, 250, 300, 350, $400^{\circ}C$) when blank holding force (BHF) was controlled in real-time. And so on, the drawability was measured with the different die and punch coating. The square cup drawing test was performed by three different coated punches (CrN, TiCN, Non-coated). BHF was set about 2.0 KN, forming speed was 50 mm/min, blank thickness were 0.5, 1.0mm and the cup size was 40 mm by 60 mm after forming. The experimental data of square cup drawing test show that the tools coating and temperature were effect on the drawbility.

Effect of Waste Nutrient Solution and Fertigation Nutrient Solution on the Growth and Qualities of Tomato Grown by Fertigation (관비재배시 토마토 생육과 품질에 미치는 폐양액과 기존 비료의 효과)

  • Waste nutrient solution (WNS) that was the drained nutrient solution of Horticultural Research Institute of Japan for culture tomato in perlite hydroponics showed $1.9-2.4dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ of EC and 5.7-7.1 pH from April to July. Although ${NH_4}^+-N$ concentration of WNS decreased remarkably, the other nutrients did not change significantly, as compared with supplied solution. There were no significant differences in plant height, stem diameter, and the other growth characteristics of tomato plants grown by 2 fertigation nutrient solutions; BHF (Bountiful Harvest Fertilizer, 10% of N, 13% of $PO_4$, 13% of K, 0.05% of B, 0.05% of Zn, and 0.0023% of Cu that made in Korea) and Megasol (11% of N, 8% of $PO_4$, 34% of K, 0.032% of Mn, 0.002% of B, 0.048% of Fe, 0.0122% of Zn, and 0.0023% of Cu that made in Belgium.); however, the chlorophyll content of tomato leaf was highest in WNS. The fresh and dry weight of tomato plants were higher in 3 fertigation treatments than irrigation of tap water, while there were no significant differences in fresh and dry weight among the 3 fertigation treatments. The mineral content of tomato leaf also did not show any differences among the 3 fertigation treatments and any regular tendency in all minerals. Total yield, fruit weight and fruit numbers of tomato were higher in WNS, followed by Megasol, BHF and control, although there were not any difference among the 3 fertigation nutrient solution treatments. BER(blossom-end rot)of tomato fruits decreased in fertigation treatments, especially, fruits grown in WNS and BHF showed lower BER. However, the transpiration rate of leaf was higher in control, followed by BHF, WNS and Megasol, The fruit size and soluble solids content was higher in 3 fertigation nutrient treatments than control. These results suggest that WNS can be used for fertigation solution in tomato because yield and quality of tomato fruit grown in WNS fertigation treatment were similar to those in 2 fertigation nutrient solutions treatments(BHF, Megasol).

Numerical study on the thermal performance of passively cooled hybrid fins (수동적으로 냉각되는 하이브리드 휜들의 열성능에 대한 수치적 연구)

  • This paper reports numerical study results with respect to the thermal performance of various hybrid fins (HFs) and a pin fin (PF) passively cooled under natural convection state. Investigated HFs are a basic hybrid fin (BHF), a hollow hybrid fin (HHF), and a solid hybrid fin (SHF). CFD models for both HFs and the PF have been developed to explore their thermal performance under various heat dissipations. Thermal performances of fins have been analyzed by quantifying array-based heat transfer coefficients, $h_a$, and mass-based heat transfer coefficients, $h_m$, for each fin. Study results show that $h_a$ of the SHF is 23% greater than that of the PF. $h_m$ of the HHF is found to be even 140% greater than that of the PF, and the HHF is found to be 40% better than the BHF in terms of the mass-based performance, $h_{m{\cdot}}$.
