  • This study was performed to produce specific egg yolk antibodies against bovine rotavirus (BRV) and bovine coronavirus (BCV) that are major pathogens causing diarrhea in calves. Chickens were immunized with BRV and BCV intramuscularly in the breast muscle by injection 5 times at two weeks interval. At 6 weeks after the first immunization of BRV or BCV, cross reactivity of each serum derived from BRV- or BCV-immunized hens was tested. Each serum antibody against BRV or BCV was reacted with only specific BRV or BCV antigens. Serum and egg yolk-antibody titers of hens against BRV or BCVwere highest at 8~12 weeks after first immunization. Specific serum and egg yolk-antibody titers against BRV were about 104,000 and 107,000, respectively, and those against BCV were about 145,000 and 155,000, respectively. Hemagglutination inhibition titers in the immunized egg yolk antibodies against BRV and BCV were 5,120 and 1,280, respectively, and were ${\geq}8$ times higher than that in non-immunized control. These results suggested that the immunized egg yolk antibodies could effectively neutralize BRV and BCV.

  • This study was conducted to develop a standardized Korean cold noodle stock recipe which can be used in food service establishments. The qualities of three kinds of stock made of beef rib only(B group), beef rib added with chicken(BC group), and beef rib added with chicken and vegetable(BCV group) were investigated by using sensory evaluation and instrumental analyses for free amino acids and nucleotides during heating (2, 3, 4, and 6 hr) at 90$\pm$ 5$\^{C}$ The highest amino acid contained in B, BCV, and BCV groups was arginine followed by alanine, glycine, and glutamic acid. B and BC groups was extracted to the best contents of amino acids by heating for 4 hours but BCV group for 3 hours. Nucleotides were extracted from B and BC group between 3 and 4 hours of heating but in BCV group between 2 and 3 hours. In sensory evaluation, BCV group obtained the highest score for overall preference. In the measurement of color difference, BCV group was the lowest in L value(lightness) but the highest in b value(yellowness).

  • The reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used for the detection of bovine coronavirus (BCV) in fecal samples by using reverse transcriptase and two primers which flanked M gene sequence of 407bp. RT-PCR detected bovine coronavirus specifically, but did not detect mouse hepatitis virus (MHV), transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), and bovine rotavirus (BRV). The M gene sequences of MHV are homologus to that of BCV, but minor differences exist in the primer regions, preventing annealing of the primers. Detection of BCV using RT-PCR was compared with ELISA and the agreement of BCV detection by RT-PCR and ELISA was 95.3%. RNA detection in positive clinical specimens was significantly better by PCR than immunological detection of BCV by ELISA.

  • This survey was carried out to investigate the prevalence of bovine coronavirus (BCV) infection for the calves in Seosan-Taean Area. A total of 75 samples were collected from fecal swab to detect BCV by RT-PCR Results obtained through the survey were as follows; By RT-PCR(455bp) BCV was detected from 13 of the 75 sample of fecal swab from calves. The calves under 3 month showed the highest BCV detection rate.

  • One of the important parts on multimedia era is acoustic ones. With increased demand of smallest multimedia products such as personal digital assistant (PDA) and mobile phones, it is necessary to develop acoustic devices which have higher performance and smaller size. Acoustic parts with various function for hearing impaired persons. This paper introduces a bone conduction vibrator (BCV) for hearing impaired persons to use portable acoustic device without additional devices. For vibration analysis of the BCV, electromagnetic, mechanical and their coupling effects are considered for the analysis. This paper shows that the development of design and analysis technique by finite element method (FEM) of BCV.

  • A new blue electroluminescent conjugated polymer, poly(BP-alt-BCV), was prepared by Hornor-Emmons polycondensation and used as a host polymer for the phosphorescent dopant, $(bsn)_2Ir(acac)$. Poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK), known as a blue EL material, was also used for comparison with poly(BP-alt-BCV). Electrophosphorescence of PLEDs with these dopant/host systems was investigated in terms of luminescence, efficiency, emission color, and energy transfer.

  • To study the efficacy monoclonal antibody(MAb) against bovine rotavirus(BCV) in treatment of calf diarrhea, the MAb was fed to 166 calves with diarrhea from Chung-buk area. The results were summarized as follows. 1. Among the 1,049 calves investigated, 166(16%) calves were infected with BCV. 2. The monthly rate of BCV infection were higher in October to December compared with other months of the year. 3. Among the 166 calves with diarrhea, 137(83%) calves were recovered. 4. Young calves within 7-day-old were more effective in treatment than other ages and the rate of treatment was 86% 5. Most effective period for treatment of rotavirus was at the first stage of infection.

  • Eight monoclonal antibodies(MAbs) against bovine coronavirus(BCV) were produced and characterized. Three MAbs(1G9, 4H12, 5C1) specific to the S glycoprotein and two HE glycoprotein-specific MAbs(2A5, 5G4) were found to neutralize the BCV in fluorescence focus neutralization(FFN) test. Two HE-specific MAbs from the neutralizing MAbs inhibited the hemagglutinating activity of the BCV. None of the N protein-specific MAbs(1C1, 5A12, 6H1) neutralized the virus infectivity. Bovine coronavirus and mouse hepatitis virus, which belong to group II coronaviruses, were differentiated from other groups of coronaviruses(porcine transmissible gastroenteritis virus, porcine epidemic diarrhea virus, canine coronavirus) by all MAbs in fluorescence antibody test(FA), but not in FFN test.

  • The bovine rotavirus(BRV), bovine coronavirus(BCV) and bovine viral diarrhea virus(BVDV) are main viruses of bovine viral diarrhea disease. These viruses could be rapidly amplified by the reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). This study was conducted to develop rapid and accurate diagnostic methods of these viral diseases by multiplex RT-PCR. Specific primers were designed based on the sequences reported by Chang KO et. al. (1997) and Schroeder BA, et. al. (1990), RNA were prepared from the cultured viruses, first-stranded DNAs were synthesised by reverse transcriptase. PCR were conducted to amplify specific regions of the viruses by multiplex. Three bands such as 1,062bp for BRV, 458bp for BCV, and 300bp for BVDV were successfully produced by multiplex RT-PCR. In conclusion, this result suggested that these viruses could be diagnosed rapidly and accurately by multiplex RT-PCR.

  • The field of nonparametrics has shown its appeal in re-cent years with anarray of new tools for statistical analysis. As one of those tools nonparametric regression has become a prominent statis-tical research topic and also has been well established as a useful tool. In this article we investigate the biased cross-validation selector, BCV, which is proposed by Oh et al. (1995) for a less smoothing regression function. In the simulation study BCV selector is shown to perform well in parctice with respect to ASE ratio.
