A DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) Approach for Evaluating the Efficiency of Exclusive Bus Routes (자료포락분석을 이용한 서울시 간선버스노선 효율성 평가)

  • This study presumes the efficiency of each route by utilizing data of Seoul's exclusive bus routes for the 2008 and the DEA model. In the estimation, it is assumed that the number of passengers and profits of each route is calculated by considering the number of buses and stops, travel distance, intervals and management cost. This study computed the efficiency scores of each bus line in Seoul based on the data for the first half of 2008 and one of the DEA models, namely the BCC model. After analysis using the input-oriented BCC model, out of a total of 18 lines of interest, there were 2 CRS lines and 16 IRS lines. Also, the Tobit Regression Analysis that helps identify the impact of the elements used in the analysis on efficiency scores proved that the most influential element to exclusive buses is the length of intervals.

An Analysis of Efficiency of Sea Food Manufacturing (수산식품 가공업의 효율성 분석)

  • This study is to analyze the efficiency of Korean sea food manufacturing using Data Envelopment Analysis. Firstly, based on an output oriented traditional CCR, BCC model, the study estimated the efficiency scores. The average estimates of technical, pure technical, and scale efficiency turned out 0.6517, 0.7184, 0.9074 respectively, which are separated for 50 marine corporations. The 10 DMUs were efficient under CCR model while the 17 DMUs under BCC model. Also, the study suggested that the operating profit of the two output factors should be more increased relatively and averagely from the viewpoint of efficiency improvement. Secondly, super efficiency scores are estimated under super efficiency and SBM model. As a result, it came to be possible to distinguish and rank the efficiency of the efficient DMUs. The highest score was 4.2975 under Super-CCR, was 2.4947 under Super-BCC, was 2.7160 under SBM-Super-CCR, and was 1.5319 under SBM-Super-BCC model. The average estimates of super efficiency were 0.76 and 0.82 under Super-CCR and Super-BCC model respectively, and were 0.61 and 0.67 under SBM-Super-CCR and SBM-Super-BCC model. Finally, the study conducted a rank-sum test, Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test, to find a statistical significance of heterogeneity existing in efficiencies among the sample corporations. The result showed that there was a significant difference in average efficiency between Dried, Salted product manufacturing and Frozen product manufacturing under BCC-Super efficiency model at 10% level of significance. Furthermore, TOBIT model was applied to find out the potential factors that might influence the efficiency, Wilcoxonand the results showed debt and sales cost influenced all of the technical, pure technical, and scale efficiency, while net profit influenced only the technical efficiency.

Relative Efficiency of Korea Trucking Transport Business Using DEA Model (DEA를 이용한 국내 화물자동차 운송업의 상대적 효율성분석)

  • Korea Trucking Transport Business is one of principal national logistics sector, though, so many issues and problems came to arises, which brought cargo transport system crisis over the country such as logistics enormous jam and traffic. This paper analyzes the efficiency of korean trucking transport business firms using DEA model. We evaluate the CCR, BCC efficiency and RTS of 30 trucking transport firms. We also suggest the trucking transport firms which can be benchmarked based on analyzed information. The result shows that seven enterprises whose values of CCR efficiency are 1, and fifteen enterprises whose values of BCC efficiency are 1. RTS indicates IRS of 16 firms, DRS of 5 firms and CRS of 9 firms.

  • This paper presents a real-time GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) isosurface ray-caster that improves the performance by 4-7 folds from our previous method, while keeping the superior visual quality. Such an improvement is achieved by incorporating an efficient empty-space skipping scheme and an analytic normal computation. The empty-space skipping scheme is done by building an min/max octree computed from the BB(Bernslein-B$\acute{e}$zier)-form of spline pieces and the analytic normal Formula provides not only a nice visual quality but also an improved evaluation performance.

Management Efficiency of Korean Information and Communication Enterprise (국내 정보통신업의 경영효율성)

  • Information and communication industry, which has been growing rapidly, is now leading the global economic growth, contributing a ripple effect on general business and economic structure. It is said that information and communication industry enables swift economic growth taking a role as a basic industry of information-oriented society. Especially, rapid technical innovation promotes mutual growth of other related industries and it is technology-intensive. The purpose of this research is to analyze the management efficiency of information and communication industry using DEA method, and finally suggests numerical value for inefficient organizations to improve their efficiency. CCR-I, BCC-I efficiency and RTS(Returns to scale) of 29 companies engaged in information and communication industry was evaluated. With the results, we suggested the model companies for benchmarking in information and communication industry. To summarize, 7 companies were selected with CCR-I efficiency rate 1, and 12 companies with BCC-I efficiency rate 1. RTS was finalized with 8 IRS companies, 10 DRS companies, and 11 CRS companies.

  • It is hard environment to get a profit without active invest due to the low interest. In this kind of environment, however, it is also difficult to find good company directly. So private investors is hard to succeed in comprehensive financial environment. Analyzing efficiency is necessary to enhance the competitive power of fund companies. This paper analyze the efficiency of fund company using DEA models. We evaluate the CCR and BCC efficiency and RTS(return to scale) of 33 Korean fund companies. We also suggest the fund company which can be benchmarked based on analyzed information.

  • The steel industry plays an important role in the entire Korean Economy. However, little empirical research has analyzed the efficiency of steel companies. The purpose of this paper is to measure and analyze their efficiency using DEA models. We evaluate the CCR and BCC efficiency and the return to scale of 28 Korean steel companies. We also provide their envelopment map and the projection, which are valuable information for inefficient companies to find benchmarking companies and to improve their efficiency.

The Changes of Technical Efficiency and Malmquist Productivity of Land Transportation by Region (지역에 따른 육상운송의 효율성과 생산성 분석)

  • Inland transportation system has been improving inefficiencies and structural problems due to excess of supply. Therefore, inland transportation market needs to reform its regional logistics structure in order to increase its competitiveness. To improve the solution, the research studied efficiencies and productivity of inland transportation systems in regions. In order to obtain specific facts, each cities' five years of (2005-2009) balanced panel data on inland transportation system has been studied. According to CCR and BCC analysis, Ul-San has been evaluated as the most efficient DMU during 2005-2008. In addition, in 2009, Seoul was the most efficient DMU. Also, according to Window analysis, Gwan-Ju and Gwangwon-do scored 0.062. Therefore, they were estimated as stable DMUs. According to Malmquist productivity analysis, average productivity indexes of four terms of Chungcheongnam-do and Chungcheongbuk-do haves been increased to 6.6% and 7.3%. I hope this study contributes to the improvement of regional inland transportation system.

A Study on the Relative Operational Efficiency of Foreign Port Transportation Industry (외항운송업의 상대적 운영효율성 분석)

  • In Korea, which achieved economic growth due to export industries, the economic importance of the foreign port transportation industry is very great. The government took the initiative in fostering the foreign port transportation industry, and as a result, it developed into one of the top 10 foreign port transport countries in the world. However, due to the poor management of the small and medium-sized foreign port transport business and the trade dispute between countries, the foreign port transportation industry has faced a long-term invasion. Therefore, in order for these companies to recover again, they will, among other things, have to reorganize their operational inefficiency to carry out efficient production activities. In this study, we want to analyze the management efficiency of the top 10% companies in the unlisted domestic outbound shipping industry, present the project value of inefficient enterprises, and confirm the reference collection of companies that may be subject to benchmarking. For this purpose, a total of 10 foreign port transportation industry were analysed for efficiency and scale profitability (RTS) of the CCR and BCC models. The analysis showed that there were a total of six entities with BCC efficiency and five entities with CCR efficiency. In addition, there were a total of five entities with both BCC and CCR efficiency.

The Analysis on the Efficiency of Chinese Provinces & Cities after China Joins WTO (중국의 WTO가입 이후 중국 각 성·시(省·市)의 기술효율성 분석)

  • This paper examines if China' each province.city manages its organization well after China's WTO affiliation; and on the ground, judges how much each province city needs to improve. China's each province city data from 2002 to 2006 is used to evaluate technical efficiency by using the input-oriented CCR model and the input-oriented BCC model. Analytical results show that only Shanghai gets continuously the highest efficiency score from 2002 to 2006 and so the other provinces cities need to benchmark Shanghai to elevate their efficiency. There can be regional, cultural and emotional differences among the provinces cities but Tibet, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia and Xinjiang get low efficiency scores even after China's WTO affiliation. The Chinese government can make use of efficiency evaluation results by DEA as basic materials in making economic development schemes in order to reduce these deviations as various minority races constitutes China and there are regional deviations of degree of economic development in China.
