The Determination of Orthometric Height based on Gravity in Korea (우리나라 수준점의 중력기반 정표고 결정)

  • A vertical datum requires an origin, which is a point on the Earth's surface where the height of the point is a defined value(26.6871m). From this origin point, heights (height differences) can be measured to any other point using standard leveling and gravity measurement procedures. However, the leveling network over the Korea bas been established by using the normal gravity instead of the actual gravity values, and the heights for the points are published by National Geographic Information Institute (NGII). This may cause height for especially in the area where high-relief mountains are dominant. Therefore, the height errors caused by using normal gravity instead of actual gravity values are analyzed in this study. Then, the differences between the orthometric heights and the published heights, i.e., normal orthometric height are analyzed.

The Change of Interior Orientation Parameters in Zoom Lens Digital Cameras (줌렌즈 디지털 카메라의 내부표정요소 변화)

  • Recently, as digital photogrammetry bas been widely used in various fields including construction, it is also being applied to several industries. It is essential for interior orientation to determine accurate focal length of camera, lens distortion, location of principal point in order to apply high quality digital camera to digital photogrammetry. In this study we conducted interior orientation for zoom lens camera with regular time and zoom factors and analyzed change of radial distortion parameters and location of principal point to evaluate interior orientation stability. As a result, radial distortion parameters($k_1,k_2$) are converged into zero by increasing zoom factors. There are correlation between the change of location of point and zoom factors. The displacement of $x_p$, $y_p$ increase as zoom factors rise high.

Accuracy Evaluation of ASTER DEM, SRTM DEM using Digital Topographic Map (1:5000 수치지형도를 이용한 ASTER DEM과 SRTM DEM의 구축정확도 평가)

  • The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and the accuracy of ASTER DEM and SRTM DEM covering 99% of the earth surface using large-scale Digital Topographic Map in mountainous area(Sokcho), mixed area(Jinan, mountainous area and even land area) and even land area(Anyang). We made DEM using contour lines of 1:5,000 Digital Topographic Map of study area and also acquired ASTER DEM and SRTM DEM of their corresponding area. In order to verify accuracy of DEM, this study compared ASTER DEM and SRTM DEM data using 15m resolution DEM generated from contour lines of Digital Topographic Map as basis for each study area. To evaluate the accuracy of ASTER and SRTM DEM data, statistical such as RMSE and correlation were calculated and histogram and scatter plot were drawn. The analysis result shows that, both ASTER DEM and SRTM DEM have high accuracy but in aspects of future availability, ASTER DEM covering larger areas bas relatively more potential than SRTM data.

Clinical Study on Monteggia Fracture (Monteggia 골절의 임상적 고찰)

  • In 1814, Giovanni Battista Monteggia first described two cases of fracture of proximal third of ulna with a dislocation of radial head, and this combined injury is now known as the Monteggia fracture. Despite its rarity, the importance of early recognition of dislocated radial head and correct treatment bas been emphasized. Eight cases of Monteggia fracture were studied from March, 1984 to June, 1987. The results are as follows 1. Male patients were six and female were two. 2. The frequent cause of injury was fall down in four cases. 3. Bado type I accounted for 50%, type II for 12.5% and type III for 37.5%. 4. The level of ulna fracture was above upper one third of ulna in seven. 5. The common direction of dislocated radial head was anterior. 6. Two children and two adults were managed by closed reduction. Four ulna fractures in adult were treated by open reduction and internal fixation using a semitubular plate. 7. The results (by Bruce et al. criteria) were 3 excellent, 2 good, 1 fair and 2 poor.

  • Recently, the interest of the study about IGCC(Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle), one of New & Renewable Energy technologies, bas been increased due to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Low Carbon Green Growth policy, etc. Also, with this interest of IGCC, the study on the gas turbine utilizing the synthetic gas is performing actively. In the study of the gas turbine characteristic, the power performance and the combustion efficiency are mainly discussed and also the concern about the exhaust gas is being taken care of due to the increasing awareness of the environment. With this, we would like to go over the exhaust gas emission characteristic by the synthetic gas inflow in this test. In order to conduct such a test, we constructed a synthetic gas supplying system to supply the synthetic gases ($H_2$: hydrogen, $N_2$: nitrogen, CO: carbon monoxide, $CO_2$: carbon dioxide, and $H_2O$: steam) quantitatively and this combustion test was conducted by controlling the supplied synthetic gases artificially. The concentration of the exhaust gases appeared variously depending on the differences of the inflow nitrogen amount and the steam amount, whether or not the carbon dioxide flow in and so on. The results of the test can be able to be utilized for the IGCC study by understanding the exhaust gas emission characteristic of the coal gas turbine by synthetic gas composition.

Production of Biogenic Amines by Microflora Inoculated in Meats

  • The effects of microorganisms inoculated in beef, pork and chicken on the production of various biogenic amines (BA) were examined. Acinetobacter haemolyticus, Aeromonas hydrophila subsp. hydrophila, Alcaligenes faecalis subsp. faecalis, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Enterobacter aerogenes, Enterobacter cloacae, Escherichia coli, Lactobacillus alimentarius, Lactobacillus curvatus, Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. Mesenteroides, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aerugina, Salmonella enteritidis and Salmonella typhimurium were inoculated into beef, pork and chicken and incubated for 24 h at optimum temperatures of each bacterium. In ground beef, total amount of amines (TAA) produced was highest in the sample inoculated with Bacillus cereus, followed by Enterobacter cloacae. In ground pork, TAA was highest in the sample inoculated with Alcaligenes faecalis, followed by Enterobacter cloacae, Proteus vulgaris and Bacillus cereus. TAA of chicken breast was highest in the sample inoculated with Alcaligenes faecalis, followed by Bacillus cereus and Lactobacillus alimentarius while in chicken leg was the sample inoculated with Proteus vulgaris, followed by Enterobacter aerogenes, Enterobacter cloacae and Alcaligenes faecalis. Among biogenic amines produced, cadaverine (CAD) was detected at the highest level, followed by putrescine (PUT) and tyramine (TYM), their order being reversed by the kind of microorganism in beef and pork. In chicken breast and leg, CAD level was still the highest but PUT, TYM or PHM was the second highest, depending upon the kind of microorganism inoculated. In total, Alcaligenes faecalis, Enterobacter cloacae and Bacillus cereus were ones that produced a larger amount of BAs regardless of meat sources from different species.

Association of genetic polymorphism in fatty acid synthase with BodyFat and fatty acid composition in Hanwoo (한우 FASN 유전자변이와 한우 지방형질 및 지방산조성과의 연관성 분석)

  • The aim of this study was to identify the polymorphism on fatty acid synthase (FASN) gene and its association with fat traits and fatty acid composition in Hanwoo. We genotyped a SNP (g.16024G${\rightarrow}$A) detected in Exon34 of FASN on 90 Hanwoo steers by PCR RFLP. A linear mixed model revealed an association of g.16024G${\rightarrow}$A with total body fat contents (P=0.006), while there is no significant effect between g.16024G${\rightarrow}$A and other traits (IMF, BF and fatty acid composition). Regression coefficient and $R^2$ of the SNP was -1.5 kg and 0.36 in this anslysis. Expecially, AA type of g.16024G${\rightarrow}$A bas a less amount of body fat (1.5 kg) than GG type of the SNP in Hanwoo. In conclusion, this study indicates an important role for FASN gene in determining body fat content in Hanwoo.

Growth of $BaTiO_3$ Single Crystals by TSSG Technique (TSSG법에 의한 $BaTiO_3$ 단결정 육성)

  • Single crysals of BaTiO3 were grown by TSSG technique at various cooling rates. Morpolo girts, defects and domain structures of the grown crystals were investigated. At the cooling rates below 0.5℃/hr, equant single crystals were obtained and the 11111 faces were dominantly developed. If the cooling rate was much faster or if the vortical temperature gradient in the so lotion was very large, the solution became unstable and the needle formed BasTil04 o crystals were precipitated. Two sets of parallel lamella domains are arranged perpendicular to each other and the irregularly shaped boundaries are fixed between them. These sets of domains show remarkable orientation contrast in x-ray topography. Heating the crystal above 127℃, the phase transition from tetragonal to cubic occurs. The phase transition front (PTF) moves in the direction of temperature gradient. Domains in the tetragonal phase are successively rearranged and regular strain patterns appear in the cubic phase. The habit plane of PTF in BaTi03 is found to deviate from a l1101 lattice plane by app roximately 9°.

Public Awareness of Colorectal Cancer in a Turkish Population: Importance of Fecal Occult Blood Testing

  • To date, there was no controlled-study regarding awareness and knowledge of colorectal cancer in the Turkish population. We therefore designed a questionnaire consisting of items related to socio-demographic parameters, medical and family history and questions of awareness and knowledge about colorectal cancer for use in a descriptive cross-sectional study. An interviewer-administered technique was applied and 450 subjects were interviewed in the outpatient clinics at Near East University Hospital. Among all subjects, 337 were found to be eligible for the study group. Exclusion criteria were age below 18 years, any cancer history, family history of colorectal cancer, current colorectal problems, history of any diagnostic or therapeutic interventions for colorectal diseases. All participants stated that they heard about colorectal cancer. When asked about the lifetime risk of colorectal carcinoma, only 25.4% of women and 37.9% of men estimated correctly. Univariate analysis revealed that the total awareness score was significantly correlated with age, marital status, parenthood and fecal occult blood testing history. On multivariate analysis of independent predictors for awareness of colorectal cancer were found to be history of fecal occult blood testing, age and marital status were found to be the most important determinants. As a conclusion, opportunistic screening with fecal occult blood test by physicians from non-gastrointestinal specialties not only helps to reduce the mortality but also increases the awareness of colorectal cancer.

Multi-point earthquake response of the Bosphorus Bridge to site-specific ground motions

  • The study presents the earthquake performance of the Bosphorus Bridge under multi-point earthquake excitation considering the spatially varying site-specific earthquake motions. The elaborate FE model of the bridge is firstly established depending on the new considerations of the used FEM software specifications, such as cable-sag effect, rigid link and gap elements. The modal analysis showed that singular modes of the deck and the tower were relatively effective in the dynamic behavior of the bridge due to higher total mass participation mass ratio of 80%. The parameters and requirements to be considered in simulation process are determined to generate the spatially varying site-specific ground motions. Total number of twelve simulated ground motions are defined for the multi-support earthquake analysis (Mp-sup). In order to easily implement multi-point earthquake excitation to the bridge, the practice-oriented procedure is summarized. The results demonstrated that the Mp-sup led to high increase in sectional forces of the critical components of the bridge, especially tower base section and tensile force of the main and back stay cables. A close relationship between the dynamic response and the behavior of the bridge under the Mp-sup was also obtained. Consequently, the outcomes from this study underscored the importance of the utilization of the multi-point earthquake analysis and the necessity of considering specifically generated earthquake motions for suspension bridges.
