  • Tobacco is a well known cause of death worldwide. With existing comprehensive laws and various other measures for tobacco control, the mortality and morbidity due to tobacco usage have unfortunately not been reduced. A large number of tobacco users have altered their pattern of tobacco use after the gutka ban. Traditional gutka is sold in the open market in a pre-mixed format. Manufacturers are supplying pan masala and tobacco in separate pouches as there is no restriction for sale of pan masala and tobacco individually in many states. Although most of the population is aware of the health hazards of tobacco, it is necessary to develop an effective structured strategy. Tobacco control programs need to be strengthened by separate tobacco control measures at various levels.

  • Various treatments of naked barley with commercial liquefying enzymes have been emploved to reduce high viscosity of naked barley in cooking as a raw material for alcohol production and to increase alcohol yield. The enzyme BAN used for cooking and liquefaction of naked barley was able to make a reduction of one third of viscosity and to enhance alcohol yield of 4 l/Ton of raw material than the T120L was. Of course, alcohol yield depended in part on the applied saccharifying enzymes. The low temperature cooking of naked barley with BAN was favorable compared with high temperature cooking for both of reducing viscosity (210 vs. 237 cp) and final alcohol yield (Yp/so: 0.397 vs. 0.395 g/g) in industrial scale.

  • The composition of essential oils in the leaves of three cultivars (Ban-Chung-Gat, Chung-Gat and Dolsan-Gat) of Brassica juncea L. were analyzed and their antifungal activity were investigated in this study. Allyl isothiocyanate, 2-phenyl ethyl isothiocyanate, 4-isothiocyanato-1-butene, 5-methyl isothiazole, benzene acetaldehyde, benzene propane nitrile and beta-ionone have been identified in all of the experimented oils. The main component of the oils from Ban-Chung-Gat and Chung-Gat was 2-phenyl ethyl isothiocyanate while allyl isothiocyanate was the representing compound in the oil of Dolsan-Gat. The antifungal activities of the oils were tested by micro broth dilution method and disc diffusion method. As the result the oils exhibited significant inhibiting activities against Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, Trichoderma viride, Candida albicans, C. utilis, C. tropicalis, Cryptococcus neoformans, Trichosporon mucoides, Trichophyton tonsurans and Geotrichum capitatum.

  • This paper investigates short selling behavior, particularly by foreign investors, during event days of non-normal times on an intraday basis in the Korean stock market around the global financial crisis. Although, in the several subsamples, we cannot exclude the predatory short-selling possibility, we did not find any conclusive evidence of abusive short selling behaviors in the overall intraday trading activities. While foreign investors demonstrate higher levels of participation in short-sale trading, their impact on price declines is not as pronounced compared to the effects of pure selling. Following the lift of the short-sale ban, foreign investors appear to engage in long selling trading more frequently, and their influence on price changes primarily stems from long selling rather than short selling compared to the past.

  • Existing PoS (Point of Sale) based payment frameworks are vulnerable as the Payment Application's integrity in the smart phone and PoS are compromised, vulnerable to reverse engineering attacks. In addition to these existing PoS (Point of Sale) based payment frameworks do not perform point-to-point encryption and do not ensure communication security. We propose a Smart and Secure PoS (SSPoS) Framework which overcomes these attacks. Our proposed SSPoS framework ensures point-to-point encryption (P2PE), Application hardening and Application wrapping. SSPoS framework overcomes repackaging attacks. SSPoS framework has very less communication and computation cost. SSPoS framework also addresses Heartbleed vulnerability. SSPoS protocol is successfully verified using Burrows-Abadi-Needham (BAN) logic, so it ensures all the security properties. SSPoS is threat modeled and implemented successfully.
