  • R, G, Y, B color lenses Manufactured increasing tinted time by 5 min term. CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ coordination's analysis used spectrophotometer and CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ color system. CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ coordination transfer form about tinted time being $$b^*(Y-B)={\beta}a^*+{\alpha}$$ change to do linear almost. In red case, move in $G{\rightarrow}R$, $B{\rightarrow}Y$ form tinted time increases, and Parameter ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ value got each -3.49 and 0.90. In green case, CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ coordination transfer form is $R{\rightarrow}G$, $B{\rightarrow}Y$ form. Got the pure green color color in 10 min's tinted time. Parameter ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ value got each -0.72 and -0.55. Get into pure yellow and blue color case tinted time increases. Parameter ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ value are 14.11 and 1.58 in yellow, and Parameter ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ value are -11.62 and 1.30 in blue color.

Determination of Li generated from 10B(n·α)7Li reaction in Boric acid solution (붕산수용액에서 10B(n·α)7Li 핵반응에 의해 생성된 Li 정량)

  • Thermal neutron irradiation experiment of boric acid solution was carried out using HANARO in following three conditions: (A) $^{10}B$ concentration = $203.0{\mu}g/mL$, irradiation time = 1 hr; (B) $^{10}B$ concentration = $381.4{\mu}g/mL$, irradiation time = 1 hr; (C) $^{10}B$ concentration = $381.4{\mu}g/mL$, irradiation time = 0.5 hr. The amount of lithium produced from $^{10}B(n{\cdot}{\alpha})^7Li$ reaction which was generated on neutron irradiation, was measured by flameless atomic absorption spectroscopy. The concentration of $^7Li$ measured in the three experiments was $0.18{\mu}g/mL$ (78.3% of theoretical value, $0.23{\mu}g/mL$) in (A), $0.31{\mu}g/mL$ (70.5% of theoretical value, $0.44{\mu}g/mL$) in (B) and $0.16{\mu}g/mL$ (71.6% of theoretical value, $0.22{\mu}g/mL$) in (C). The pH value of irradiated boric acid was shifted to considerably low. It is estimated that boric acid would be transformed into the polyborate fonn, by radiolysis products of water, which has high dissociation constant.

Enhanced Production of Avermectin B1a with Streptomyces avermitilis by Optimization of Medium and Glucose Feeding (배지 및 유가식 회분배양 최적화에 의한 Streptomyces avermitilist 의 Avermectin B1a 생산성 향상)

  • The effect of phosphate on the production of avermectin B1a was studied. Response surface methodology was applied to optimize the concentration of organic nitrogen sources. The portion of B1b in total avermectins was decreased from 5.8% to 3.0% by the addition of 1.5 g/ι inorganic phosphate to the production medium. Among organic nitrogen sources, soybean meal was the most effective on avermectin biosynthesis. Results showed that B1a productivity was increased by 44.8% in a laboratory scale fermenter cultivation of Streptomyces avermitilis YA99-40 through fed-batch process. A maximal B1a productivity was obtained by repeated 30 and 20 g/ι of glucose feeding at 136 and 206 hour, respectively. The B1a productivity was increased by 86.3% and the proportion of B1a in the total avermectins was improved from 38% to 45% with respect to the control process. These results would be very useful for enhancing productivity of B1a in an up-scaled processes.

Sound Absorption Coefficient and Sound Transmission Loss of Rice Hull Mat

  • The sound absorption coefficient and transmission loss of several types of rice hull mats with varying apparent densities and thicknesses are estimated in this paper using the transfer function and matrix methods, respectively, to evaluate the possibility of using rice hull as an acoustic construction material. The mean sound absorption rates of 10-cm-thick rice hull mats with target densities of $0.10g/cm^3$, $0.12g/cm^3$, and $0.14g/cm^3$ were 0.91, 0.92, and 0.95, respectively, while those of the 1-cm-thick plywood attached to the back of the rice hulls were 0.90, 0.92, and 0.92, respectively. The means of the sound transmission loss of the 10 cm-thick rice hull mats with the target densities of $0.10g/cm^3$, $0.12g/cm^3$, and $0.14g/cm^3$ were 7.66 dB, 10.49 dB, and 14.14 dB, respectively, while those of the 1 cm-thick plywood attached to the back of the rice hulls were 33.34 dB, 36.72 dB, and 38.95 dB, respectively. In conclusion, a rice hull mat could be used as acoustic construction materials because of its high sound absorption coefficient and sound transmission loss.

Synergistic Effects of Gliocladium virens and Pseudomonas putida in the Cucumber Rhizosphere on the Suppression of Cucumber Fusaium Wilt (오이 덩굴쪼김병 억제에 관한 근권정착능력이 있는 Gliocladium virens와 Pseudomonas putida의 협력효과)

  • Biocontrol agents, Gliocladium virens G872B and Pseudomonas putida Pf3, were compatible each other in colonizing cucumber rhizosphere, which contributed to a long-term inhibition of cucumber Fusarium wilt. G872B colonized successfully on the cucumber root system, irrespective of the introduction of Pf3. Pf3 also colonized well in the cucumber rhizosphere regardless of the presence of G872B. The individual strains effectively suppressed cucumber wilt up to 56 days after transplanting. The combined treatment of G872fB and Pf3 provided a long-term protection of about 80 days with the efficacy greater than that obtained by any individual strains under greenhouse conditions. These results suggest that the colonization of the biological control agents in the rhizosphere could be correlated directly to Fusarium wilt-suppressive potentials.

Photosynthetic Pigment Concentrations and Changes of SOD Activities on Liana, Equisetum Arvense and Artemisia Princeps Exposured to Ozone (오존에 노출된 덩굴식물류, 쇠뜨기, 쑥의 광색소 함량과 SOD 활성 변화)

  • This study was analyzed to photosynthetic pigment concentrations and changes of SOD activities on seven species of liana of A. heterophylla, P. scandens, V. thunbergii, P. tricuspidata, C. trilobus, L. japonica and T. kirilowii, and two species of E. arvense and A. princeps of non climbing plants. Concentrations of chlorophyll a and b, total chlorophylls and total carotenoids of P. tricuspidata in 100 ppb ozone site were the most increased. It was the most increased to P. scandens in ratio of chlorophylls and carotenoids, and E. arvense in ratio of chlorophyll a and b. There was difference to ratio of chlorophyll a and b of liana and non liana. At ratio of chlorophyll a and b of 100 ppb ozone site and the control it was more sensitive to chlorophyll a than chlorophyll b, and P. tricuspidata was the most sensitive at comparing with species, and it was more sensitive to liana than non liana. In SOD activities A. princeps was the most increased to 3535.7 unit/g, and P. scandens was the fewest increased to 109.3 unit/g, and A. heterophylla was only decreased to 131.7 unit/g in comparing to 100 ppb ozone sites and the control.

Vitamin $B_{12}$ content analysis of favorite Korean restaurant foods, convenient foods and bakery products (한국인이 선호하는 음식점 한식 및 간편식품과 빵류의 비타민 $B_{12}$ 함량분석 연구)

  • There is a limitation to estimate vitamin $B_{12}$ intake due to the lack of data on vitamin $B_{12}$ content of Korean commercial foods. In this study, vitamin $B_{12}$ content was determined in favorite Korean restaurant foods, convenient or instant foods, fast foods and bakery products through a modified microbioassay using Lactobacillus delbrueckii ATCC 7830. Bulgogi and seafood & green pepper griddle had high vitamin $B_{12}$ content, 3.50 and $2.96{\mu}g$/100 g, respectively. Pork suyook, pork griddle and pollack griddle had 0.48, 0.31 and $0.32{\mu}g$/100 g of vitamin $B_{12}$, respectively. In stew, soft-tofu stew with seafood and doenjang stew with seafood had relatively high vitamin $B_{12}$ content, 1.93 and $1.44{\mu}g$/100 g, respectively. Bibimbap and 4 different types of rice porridge, beef & mushroom, chicken & ginseng, seafood or abalone, had 0.36, 0.08, 0.09, 1.64 and $0.13{\mu}g$/100 g of vitamin $B_{12}$, respectively. One serving of haejanggguk, yookejang, chuotang and galbitang had 5.97, 2.04, 2.63 and $1.91{\mu}g$ of vitamin $B_{12}$, respectively. One serving of samgetang and sulongtang had $2.89{\mu}g$ and $6.64{\mu}g$ of vitamin $B_{12}$. In noodles, one serving of cram noodle soup, bibim-nangmyeon, and mul-nangmyeon had 18.8, 1.21 and $0.38{\mu}g$ of vitamin $B_{12}$, respectively. One regular gimbap and one triangle gimbap contained 1.09-2.53 and $0.54-1.11{\mu}g$ of vitamin $B_{12}$, respectively. One cheese-burger, chicken-burger and bulgogi-burger had 0.76, 0.62 and $0.54{\mu}g$ of vitamin $B_{12}$, respectively. A plain bagel and a waffle contained 0.13 and $0.17{\mu}g$/100 g of vitamin $B_{12}$, respectively. Ready-made tomato sauce or cream sauce for spaghetti in a retort pouch contained only a trace of vitamin $B_{12}$. In conclusion, these results should contribute to improving the present food vitamin $B_{12}$ content database, most of which were cited from foreign data, thereby it could be helpful to estimate the vitamin $B_{12}$ intake of Koreans more accurately than before. It will also provide new information for dietary education related to vitamin $B_{12}$ and health.

Effects of Bacillus subtilis, Kefir and β-Glucan Supplementation on Growth Performance, Blood Characteristics, Meat Quality and Intestine Microbiota in Broilers

  • A total of 528 broilers ($47{\pm}0.1g$; 1 day of age) were used in a 35-day feeding trial to evaluate probiotics, prebiotics and their interactive effects on growth performance, blood characteristics, relative organ weight and meat quality. Broilers were randomly distributed into 1 of 6 treatments on the basis of body weight (BW) (4 replicate pens per treatment, 22 broilers per pen). The dietary treatments were CON, basal diet; B, CON + 0.1 g kg-1 Bacillus subtilis; K, CON + 1 g kg-1 Kefir; G, CON + 1 g kg-1 ${\beta}-glucan$; GB, G + 1 g kg-1 Bacillus subtilis; and GK, G + 1 g kg-1 Kefir. The overall effects indicated that broilers fed the K, G and GK diets had greater body weight gain (BWG) than those fed the CON diet (P<0.05). The number of white blood cells increased (P<0.05) in the GB group compared with the CON, B and G treatments; however, the lymphocyte percentage in the B group was higher than in the G group. The weight of bursa fabricii was lower in the B and G groups compared to the K group (P<0.05), whereas a higher spleen weight was observed in chickens that were fed the GB and GK diets compared to the B group (P<0.05). The treatments did not affect the meat quality parameters, except for meat redness, which improved with all of the supplementation groups (P<0.05). The population of Lactobacillus spp. in gizzard was significantly higher in the K treatment compared with CON, B, G and GB. In conclusion, supplementation with kefir and ${\beta}-glucans$ improved growth performance.

Theoretical gravity studies on roles of convection in crystal growth of $Hg_2Cl_2$-Xe by physical vapor transport under normal and high gravity environments

  • Particular interest in the role of convection in vapor crystal growth has arisen since some single crystals under high gravity acceleration of $10g_0$ appear considerably larger than those under normal gravity acceleration ($1g_0$). For both ${\Delta}T=60\;K$ and 90 K, the mass flux increases by a factor of 3 with increasing the gravity acceleration from $1g_0$ up to $10g_0$. On the other hand, for ${\Delta}T=30\;K$, the flux is increased by a factor of 1.36 for the range of $1g_0{\leq}g{\leq}10g_0$. The maximum growth rates for $1g_0$, $4g_0$, $10g_0$ appear approximately in the neighborhood of y = 0.5, and the growth rates shows asymmetrical patterns, which indicate the occurrence of either one single or more than one convective cell. The maximum growth rate for $10g_0$ is nearly greater than that for $1g_0$ by a factor of 2.0 at $P_B=20\;Torr$. For three different gravity levels of $1g_0$, $4g_0$ and $10g_0$, the maximum growth rates are greater than the minimum rates by a factor of nearly 3.0, based on $P_B=20\;Torr$. The mass flux increases with increasing the gravity acceleration, for $1g_0{\leq}g_y{\leq}10g_0$, and decreases with increasing the partial pressure of component B, xenon (Xe), $P_B$. The $|U|_{max}$ is directly proportional to the gravity acceleration for $20\;Torr{\leq}P_B{\leq}300\;Torr$. As the partial pressure of $P_B$ (Torr) decreases from 300 Torr to 20 Torr, the slopes of the $|U|_{max}s$ versus the gravity accelerations increase from 0.1 sec to 0.17 sec. The mass flux of $Hg_2Cl_2$ is exponentially decayed with increasing the partial pressure of component B, $P_B$ (Torr) from 20 Torr up to 300 Torr.

Detection of Microbial Contamination in Commercial Berries

  • This study was performed to assess microbial contamination of Aronia melanocarpa, blueberry, raspberry, and cranberry sold in several markets. We investigated total aerobic bacteria and detected foodborne bacteria by multiplex PCR from Aronia melanocarpa, blueberry, raspberry, and cranberry. Total aerobic bacteria of each sample showed mean 3.54 log CFU/g for Aronia melanocarpa, mean 1.90 log CFU/g for blueberry, and mean 1.40 log CFU/g for raspberry, but not detected in cranberry. Specially, Aronia melanocarpa contained high total aerobic bacteria contamination among various berries and contamination level reached 4.17 log CFU/g in sample 5. To evaluate the effect of distribution conditions, we also investigated total aerobic bacteria of various berries. Total aerobic bacteria showed mean 2.89 log CFU/g for berries in refrigerated distribution and 1.40 log CFU/g in frozen distribution, but not in dry distribution. For assessment of foodborne bacteria contamination, we conducted PCR with multiplex primers of E. coli O157, S. aureus, B. cereus, V. parahaemolyticus, L. monocytogenes, Y. enterocolitica, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp. Among these foodborne bacteria, B. cereus was amplified in Aronia melanocarpa in sample 4 and blueberry in sample 1, 2, 3, and 5. The result of quantitative analysis of B. cereus contamination showed 4.08 log CFU/g of Aronia melanocarpa in sample 4 and higher contamination rate 4.07 log CFU/g of blueberry in sample 3. These results suggest that strict food safety control in harvest and distribution of various berries is necessary to prevent foodborne disease and improve microbiological safety.
