The purpose of this experiment was to compare the energy expenditure and the physiological response among two groups by percent body fat(group A: 30-35% body fat, B: 35-40% body fat) to walking and running at several equivalent speeds. Subjects in group A and B followed A group(mean$\pm$SD, age; 24.0$\pm$0.4yrs, body fat; 32.3$\pm$0.7) and B group (age; 25.2$\pm$0.7yrs, body fat; 36.7$\pm$0.9). The walking and running protocol consisted of treadmill speeds for five min at each of the following speeds: 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0 km.$hr^{-1}$. The obtained data reveal in group A, the rate of oxygen consumption and energy expenditure was higher during walking compared to running ate treadmill speeds $\geq$ 6.6km.$hr^{-1}$. In group 5, the rate of oxygen consumption and energy expenditure was higher during walking compared to running ate treadmill speeds $\geq$ 6.8km.$hr^{-1}$. Heart rates and respiratory exchange ratio were higher at treadmill speeds $\geq$5.8 in group A and $\geq$5.5 in group B. these findings demonstrated that a difference of percent body fat in obese women have no large effect on energy efficiency of walking, but walking within speeds 6.5~7.0km/hr resulted in rates of energy expenditure that were as high or higher than jogging at the same speeds even though the relative stress was greater during walking.
The effects of salting methods on Kakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) fermentation were evaluated. Kakdugi was prepared with various salting methods, salt concentrations, and settling times, and fermented at 10$^{\circ}C$ for up to 52 days. Radish (Raphanus sativus L.) cubes (2 cm size) were salted by using the following methods salt concentration of about 1.5% which was known appropriate for the organoleptic quality of Kakdugi: 1) Treatment S-1: applying dry salt uniformly onto the radish cubes, with a salt concentration of about 1.5% (w/w) and cured for 1 hr, 2) Treatment S-5: applying dry salt uniformly onto the radish cubes, with a salt concentration of about 1.2% (w/w) and cured for 5 hr, 3) Treatment B-1: brining radish cubes in a 8.5% (w/v) salt solution for 1 hr, 4) Treatment B-5: brining radish cubes in a 4.0% (w/v) salt solution for 5 hr. As the fermentation continued, the initial high decrease in pH has been retarded in all the treatments, of which the delaying extent was more significantly noted from B-1 and B-5 than S-1 and S-5. The pH of the Kakdugi which showed a good eating quality dropped to 4.3∼4.8 with the accumulation of total acids. Total vitamin C increased sharply at the palatable period of Kakdugi during the initial fermentation and then decreased gradually following a sigmoidal changing pattern. The reducing sugar levels were also influenced by salting methods and fermentation as sugars are converted into acids. High initial contents of reducing sugars and their subsequent rapid decrease were observed in “S” group than “B” group during fermentation. For nonvolatile organic acids, lactic acid increased consistently throughout the fermentation while malic acid, which was high at the initiation of fermentation, decreased rapidly afterwards at the palatable period of Kakdugi.

The fundamental conditions for growing $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ crystal, new nonlinear optical material, were investigated. Stoichiometirc mixture of $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ composition resulted in the crystal of the same composition in the process of heating at the temperature above $600^{\circ}C$. No phase transition was observed in the $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ crystal in the temperature range of $600^{\circ}C~800^{\circ}C$, and $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ crystal melted congruently at $850^{\circ}C$. When the melt of this composition was cooled at rates of $1~150^{\circ}C/hr$, glass state ingot was formed regardless of cooling rates. However, $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ crystals were formed directly from the melt at any cooling rate in the presence of $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ seed crystal in the melt. Transparent $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ single crystal was grown from the melt using the seed crystal at the growing rate of 0.06 mm/hr in the furnace having the temperature gradient of $100^{\circ}C/cm$. Analysis of the single crystal showed that the crystal belonged to the noncentrosymmetric tetragonal space group 142d and unit cell dimensions were $a=10.467(1)\;{\AA},\;c=8.972(1)\;{\AA}\;and\;V=983.0(2)\;{\AA}^3$. Optical absorption edge of the crystal was observed at 180mm and the crystal showed a good optical transparency (70% transmittance, sample thickness 0.5 mm) in the wide wavelength range above 300 nm.
This study was monitored the quality characteristic of the hyssop-rice drink added using hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis) and rice. AFter operational parameters including amylase content ($X_1$, 1~5 mL), saccharification time ($X_2$, 10~18 hr) and hyssop content ($X_3$, 1.0~3.0 g) were monitored, these results were analyzed using a response surface methodology for the determination of the optimum conditions (Brix, Hunter's color and organoleptic properties). Maximum conditions of Brix for the hyssop-rice drink were 0.96 mL of amylase, 14.93 hr of saccharification time and 2 g of hyssop. Maximum conditions of Hunter's color b were 1.90 mL of amylase, 16.64 hr of saccharification time and 2.51 g of hyssop. Maximum conditions of organoleptic color were 4.60 mL of amylase, 15.66 hr of saccharification time and 1.57 g of hyssop. Maximum conditions of organoleptic aroma were 3.46 mL of amylase, 10.79 hr of saccharification time and 1.45 g of hyssop. Maximum conditions of organoleptic taste were 3.67 mL of amylase, 17.64 hr of saccharification time and 1.76 g of hyssop. Maximum conditions of overall palatability of the hyssop-rice drink were 3.73 mL of amylase, 13.66 hr of saccharification time and 1.85 g of hyssop.

Response surface methodology was used for monitoring extraction conditions, based on quality properties of old pumpkin extracts. Hunter's color L value of extracts was maximized at 101℃, 2.6 hr and decreased gradually after maximum point. The polynomial equation for Hunter's color L value showed 10% of significance level and 0.8799 of R². Hunter's color a value was minimized at 117℃, 3.9 hr and R² of polynomial equation was 0.9852 within 1% significance level. Hunter's color b value and ΔE value increased as the extracting temperature and time increased. Extraction yield of old pumpkin was maximized at 110℃, 4 hr and increased in proportional to the extracting temperature and time, but decreased after 113℃ and 2 hr. Viscosity of pumpkin extracts were maximized at 120℃, nearly 3 hr. R² of polynomial equations for yield, viscosity and sugar content were 0.9532, 0.9812 and 0.8869, respectively. Optimum ranges of extraction conditions for quality properties of old pumpkin were 102∼109℃, 2.5∼3.5 hr, respectively. Predicted values at the optimum extraction condition agreed with experimental values.
Changes in components of onion vinegar during two-stage fermentation were investigated. One sample group (A) was prepared with onion juice by extraction and concentration (15 brix), and the other group (B) was prepared using the same method but supplemented with sucrose. Comparison of glucose (4.1%), fructose (4.2%), and sucrose (0.6%) found in A as major sugars with those (3.2, 3.3, and 4.6%, respectively) of B showed a significant difference in sucrose concentration. During alcohol fermentation, S. kluyvery DJ97 consumed these sugars completely. At 36 hr of alcohol fermentation, concentrations of reducing and total sugars decreased to 0.5 and 0.8%, in A, and 0.4 and 0.6%, in B, respectively. No further changes were detected in the concentrations of these sugars thereafter. From 12 hr of fermentation, alcohol concentrations in groups A and B increased markedly, maximizing at 7.0% at 36 hr A and at 8.2% at 48 hr in B, and finally decreased thereafter in both groups. The detected alcohol components were ethanol, acetaldehyde, methanol, n-propyl alcohol, iso-butanol, and iso-amyl acohol. During acetic acid fermentation, the concentration of acetic acid as the major organic also increased significantly in both groups (4,776.72 and 4,894.93 mg% in A amd B, respectively). Other organic acid contents such as malic and succinic acids were higher in A than B. these results indicate that vinegar is better produced in onion extract with no sucrose supplementation based on its organic acid contents.
Taurine has been shown to be tissue-protective against oxidant-induced injury and is a powerful regulator of the immune system. However, there is no study on the antimelanogenic effect of taurine. In this study, we investigated the whitening effect of taurine in B16F10 mouse melanoma cells. Cell viability was measured by MTT assay. We examined melanin contents and tyrosinase activity according to time and concentration. Extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK) is an important regulator of melanogenesis. It has been reported that activated ERK induced microphthalmia associated transcription factor (MITF) phosphorylation and its subsequent degradation and thus reduced melanin synthesis. In our B16F10 cell culture system, taurine led to decrease melanin contents by 21% at 48 hr. We then observed taurine effects on ERK-P, MITF and tyrosinase by Western blot. ERK was activated at 18 hr and 24 hr, whereas MITF reduced. We could not observe any differences in the levels of tyrosinase. These results suggested that taurine inhibited melanogenesis by ERK signal pathway via MITF degradation. We expect that taurine has potential skin whitening agents in cosmetics.

Background : Rhinovirus(RV) infections frequently trigger dyspnea and paroxysmal cough in adult patients with asthma and are the most prevalent cause of the common cold. However, the mechanisms of a RV-induced airway inflammation is unclear. Since the RV does not directly destroy the airway epithelium, it is presumed that the immune response to the RV contributes to the pathogenesis of the respiratory symptoms. In order to test this hypothesis, this study characterized the time-sequenced alterations in interleukin(IL)-8 elaboration from the human bronchial epithelial cells and evaluated the role of NF(nuclear factor)-${\kappa}B$ in the RV-induced IL-8 production by pretreating the inhibitors of NF-${\kappa}B$ activation. Methods : The ability of RV-infected human bronchial epithelial cells and BEAS-2B cells to produce the IL-8 was compared with the controls. This study infected BEAS-2B cells with the RV14 obtained from the American Type Culture Collection. The supernatants were harvested from the RV infected BEAS-2B cells and the controls at 2hr, 4hr, 6hr, 12hr, 24hr, 48hr from the inoculation time. This study measured the IL-8 concentration using the ELISA kits. In order to elucidate the role of NF-${\kappa}B$ in the RV-induced IL-8 production, the effect of the NF-${\kappa}B$ inhibitors was evaluated on RV-induced IL-8 production. Results: The BEAS-2B cells produced small amounts of IL-8 that accumulated slowly with time in the culture. The RV was a potent stimulator of the IL-8 proteins production by BEAS-2B human bronchial epithelial cells. Antioxidants, N-acetyl-L-cysteine(NAC),\ and pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate(PDTC), blocked the IL-8 elaboration by the RV-infected BEAS-2B cells, which was dose-dependent, but N-Tosyl-L-phenylalanine chloromethyl ketone(TPCK) did not. Conclusion: Some antioxidants inhibited the RV-induced IL-8 production by blocking the NF-${\kappa}B$, which may have a therapeutic potential in asthma.
We present a B and V band time-series CCD photometry of ${\delta}$ Scuti type variable star HR 2707. The observation was carried out for 45 nights between November 13, 2001 and February 20, 2002 with a 40 cm telescope equipped with a 1K CCD camera at the Korea National University of Education Optical Astronomy Observatory. Through the time-series CCD photometry we obtained 3011 V band and 6562 B band CCD frames. In some of these data, the V band data obtained for seven nights in January of 2002, had been used as a part of a multi-site campaign by Lopez de Coca et al. (2003). To detect pulsational frequencies, we used Discrete Fourier Transformation (DFT) and linear least square method. We have detected eight resonable pulsational frequencies and compare to previous studies we determine $f_1,\;f_2,\;f_3,\;f_4,\;f_5$ of Lopez do Coca et al. (2003) and $f_4$ for derived from this study are real pulsational frequencies of HR 2707.
Dual-polarization can distinguish precipitation type and dual-polarization is provide not only meteorological phenomena in the atmosphere but also non-precipitation echoes. Therefore dual-polarization radar can improve radar estimates of rainfall. However polarimetric measurements by transmitting vertically vibration waves and horizontally vibrating waves simultaneously is contain systematic bias of the radar itself. Thus the calibration bias is necessary to improve quantitative precipitation estimation. In this study, the calibration bias of reflectivity (Z) and differential reflectivity ($Z_{DR}$) from the Bislsan dual-polarization radar is calculated using the 2-Dimensional Video Disdrometer (2DVD) data. And an improvement in rainfall estimation is investigated by applying derived calibration bias. A total of 33 rainfall cases occurring in Daegu from 2011 to 2012 were selected. As a results, the calibration bias of Z is about -0.3 to 5.5 dB, and $Z_{DR}$ is about -0.1 dB to 0.6 dB. In most cases, the Bislsan radar generally observes Z and $Z_{DR}$ variables lower than the simulated variables. Before and after calibration bias, compared estimated rainfall from the dual-polarization radar with AWS rain gauge in Daegu found that the mean bias has fallen by 1.69 to 1.54 mm/hr, and the RMSE has decreased by 2.54 to 1.73 mm/hr. And estimated rainfall comparing to the surface rain gauge as ground truth, rainfall estimation is improved about 7-61%.
