Microstrip directional coupler using the difference between even and odd mode phase constants ($\cdot$기모드 위상정수의 차를 이용한 마이크로스트립 방향성 결합기)

  • In this paper, a new type microstrip directional coupler has been designed and a 3dB coupler has been fabricated and measured. The measured and analysed results are agree well each other except difference of 1 dB insertion loss. There are two eigenmodes, e.g. even and odd mode in coupled microstrip lines. By using the difference between these two eigenmodes phase constants, the directional coupler can be designed by adjusting coupling length, which has a desired coupler has a disdvantage that its coupling length is longer than conventional oe, but it may be used as a useful coupler in millimeter wave range. And it has the merit of less discontinuity effects, becuase it is simpler than the other couplers in structure.

Batch-mode Learning in Neural Networks (신경회로망에서 일괄 학습)

  • A batch-mode algorithm is proposed to increase the speed of learning in the error backpropagation algorithm with variable learning rate and variable momentum parameters in classification problems. The objective function is normalized with respect to the number of patterns and output nodes. Also the gradient of the objective function is normalized in updating the connection weights to increase the effect of its backpropagated error. The learning rate and momentum parameters are determined from a function of the gradient norm and the number of weights. The learning rate depends on the square rott of the gradient norm while the momentum parameters depend on the gradient norm. In the two typical classification problems, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • The thermoelectric device was applied to a car seat to control the hot temperature in the summer and cold temperature in the winter. The characteristics of the device used to a car seat were analyzed. The air conditioning structure was designed to regulate the hot side of the thermoelectric device. To control the temperature of the car seat, a robust control algorithm based on the sliding mode control was applied, and a controller using one-chip microprocessor was developed. The performance of the proposed controller through experiments was shown.

  • 최근 간질환 검사의 비침습적인 방법으로 탄성초음파가 각광받고 있는 추세이다. 그러나 진단결과와 탄성초음파 결과 값에 따른 표준 진단 매뉴얼이 없는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 탄성초음파 수치에 따른 간질환의 종류와 B-mode 영상 간의 경향을 알아보고자 하였다. 그리고 환자의 우측 늑간 초음파 B-mode 영상평가 파라미터인 평균, 신호 대 잡음비, 최대신호 대 잡음비, 엔트로피로 분석하고, 동일 부위에 시행한 탄성초음파 수치와의 비교를 통해 경향을 연구하였고, 그 기준을 제시하고자 하였다.

  • Exact simulation of conducted EMI in switched mode power supplies is proposed. In order to achieve exact simulation, PSPICE active component ABM model and modified transformer model are proposed. Each model parameter is extracted from measurements and data-books. PSPICE simulation results with high frequency PCB pattern model are accordant with EMI measurements for a 50[W] isolated flyback converter. EMI relations of each component and EMI patterns are analyzed.

  • We fabricated new one-dimensional magnetophotonic crystal (1D-MPC) utilizing the second and third photonic band gaps where localized modes existed. Structure of the 1D-MPC was $(Ta_{2}O_{5}/SiO_{2})_{5}/Bi:YIG/(SiO_{2}/Ta_{2}O_{5})_{5}$ with optical thicknesses of 3$\lambda$ /4 for $Ta_{2}O_{5} and $SiO_2$ dielectric layers and $\lambda$ /2 for Bi:YIG defect layer, where $\lambda$ is a wavelength of a localized mode in the second photonic band gap. Faraday rotation at the localized mode in the second photonic band gap was enhanced, which was confirmed by calculation using 4${\times}$4 matrix method.

  • In this paper, we propose a fast hierarchical image segmentation using mathematical morphology. The proposed segmentation method is composed of five basic steps; multi-thresholding, open-close by reconstructing, mode operation, marker extraction, and region decision. In the multi-thresholding, an input image is simplified by Lloyd clustering algorithm. The multi-thresholded image then is more simplified by open-close by reconstruction and mode operating. In the region decision, to which region each uncertainty pixel belongs finally is decided by a watershed algorithm. Experimental results show that the quality of the segmentation results by the proposed method is not inferior to that by the conventional method and the average times elapsed by the proposed method can be reduced by one tghird of those elapsed by the conventional method.

  • A new equation, which enables us to calculate the characteristics of coupled slot-lines on a dielectric substrate, is derived. Their calculations are based on the single slot-line analysis of S.B. Cohn, but each equation of total admittance in the even mode and the odd mode is derived by a different approach. The results agree with Knorr and Kuchler's data.

  • A new method is developed for the measurement of twist angles of LC molecules in an LC panel with angular resolution of 0.01degree, which allows measurement of LC panels with small twist angles. The method is based on the analysis of the change in polarization state of a light beam as it passes through the LC panel in test is rotated in-plane. Compared to other traditional method, including the analysis of transmittance change, our method is more sensitive and more precise. This method allows accurate determination of anchoring energy and close analysis of the rubbing process in the fabrication of IPS mode LC panels.

  • The headway in Korean national railway normally runs from 6 to 10 minutes. It turns out that the current signal system can not decrease the running headway of the High Speed trains, which are scheduled to set out in April, 2004, between Seoul and Daejeon, since both the existing classical trains and the High Speed ones run on the section. Thus, a new signal system is to be introduced to secure safe and reduced headway. The present paper attempts to analyze the headway between this particular section Seoul-Daejeon of the classical line, where we expect the most severe bottleneck situation to occur. We employed two modes in our analysis : the Ground Signal mode and the On-board Signal mode. which are to be adopted starting from 2006.
