Quality Evaluation of Korean Cabbage Kimchi by Instrumentally Measured Color Values of Kimchi Juice (김치액의 색상에 의한 배추 김치의 품질 평가)

  • Color of kimchi juice was measured instrumentally to evaluate the quality of Korean cabbage kimchi during fermentation at 4$^{\circ}C$ and 16$^{\circ}C$ . These results were compared with those of chemical analyses of kimchi juice and sensory evaluation for kimchi. Chemiral analyses and sensory evaluation showed that the kimchi has reached pH 4.3, the pH value under an optimum ripening period, after 3-days fermentation at 16$^{\circ}C$ with almost the highest contents of vitamin C and carotenoids as well as desirable sour taste and texture. At 4$^{\circ}C$ the kimchi was unripened after 6-days fermentation. At 16$^{\circ}C$, $L^{*}$ value of kimchi juice did not show any significant change during fermentation periods. However, $a^{*}$ value increased until day 4$^{\circ}C$ and thereafter decreased sharply. $b^{*}$ value increased until day 3 and then showed no change. High correlations were seen between volume of kimchi juice, pH, total acidity and $L^{*}$or $b^{*}$ value, and between carotenoid content and $a^{*}$ value, respectively. It was desirable to use color $a^{*}$ or $b^{*}$ value of kimchi juice to evaluate the quality of kimchi. The kimchi was under an over-ripening period when $a^{*}$ value was equal to or lower than the initial value, or when $b^{*}$ value was almost constant. Predicting an optimum ripening period was possible by using a proportional value of $a^{*/}$ $b^{*}$ , i.e., unripening period, 1 $\geq$ and near 1 ; optimum ripening period, near 0.8 ; over-ripening period, < 0.8.eriod, < 0.8.d, < 0.8.

Characterization of Remazol Black B-Biodegradation by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia EJ-211 (Stenotrophomonas maltophilia EJ-211에 의한 Remazol Black B의 분해 특성 분석)

  • A reactive dye-degrading bacterium was isolated from textile waste water and it was identified as Stenotrophomonas maltophilia based on its biochemical characteristics. The effects of additional carbon and nitrogen sources were investigated for the development of an optimal medium for biodegradation of Remazol Black B by 5. maltophilia. The optimal pH and temperature were determined to be 6.5 and 3$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. Remazol Black B with the initial concentration of 50 ppm could be degraded up to 86% within 28 h.

  • Quantitative analysis of a myxosporean parasite, Parvicapsula sp. in internal organs (kidney, intestine, spleen, brain and liver) from non-emaciated (farm-A) or emaciated (farm-B and farm-C) olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus were performed by real-time PCR. The highest DNA copy number ($1.7{\times}10^7copies/mg$ tissue) was detected in kidney of the emaciated olive flounder from farm-C, while the DNA copy number was below detection limit in all the organs of the olive flounder from farm-B. There was not positive result in all of organs from olive flounder in farm-A. PCR and histopathological analysis were also performed using the same specimen and showed same results as those by real-time PCR.

Comparison of CPR Results And Muscle Fatigue According to Chest Compression Performer's Own Breathing Method

  • In this paper, we propose a study compared and analyzed the CPR results and muscle fatigue of the three groups. There is a group that counts loudly when compressing the mannequin's chest (Group A), a group that breathes autonomously without counting (Group B), and a group that breathes abdominally without counting (Group C). Twelve people were assigned to each group, and after performing chest compressions for 5 minutes, the results of CPR were analyzed using a program connected to the mannequin, and the muscle fatigue of the performers was analyzed using wireless electromyography. The most efficient method was found to be group B. If we only look at the speed and depth of compression within the normal range, Group C would be more efficient, but Group B showed significantly lower muscle fatigue, and Group A did not reach the normal range in depth of chest compression and muscle fatigue was the highest. Group B was also found to be the most accurate in hand positioning accuracy, and was also found to be the most efficient in maintaining concentration on chest compressions.

  • This study is to give informations about management Situations and investment returns to someone who will newly cultivate schizandra or expand area of culture. This study used IRR, B/C Ratio and NPV for beneficial analysis. We surveyed fifty one among schizandra cultivation farmhouses in chief producing districts Gangwon Inje, Gyeongbuk Munkyung, Kyungnam Sancheong and Jeonnam Whasoon in Korea from May till September in 2009. So this study surveyed about inputted labors and materials, land price and etc. by working process to calculate producing and operating cost. Fruits of schizandra are sold from 5,000 won to 6,000 won per kg at locals. And IRR(Internal Rate of Returns), B/C Ratio and incomes ratio is calculated by three senarios 5,000 won, 5,500 won and 6,000 won per kg at locals. Discount rate is 3.00%. As the result of this study IRRs are -16.00%, -6.91%, 0.40% one after another and B/C Ratios are 0.81, 0.89, 0.97 one after another. And schizandra cultivation isn't profitable. When price of schizandra fruits is 6,200 won per kg, IRR is 3.00% and B/C Ratio is 1.00. Therefore, if price of schizandra fruits is over 6,200 won per kg, we judge that it is profitable. And income ratio is 23.9% on 6,200 won per kg.

Transcription Factor for Gene Function Analysis in Maize (옥수수 유전자 기능 분석을 위한 전사인자의 이해)

  • Transcription factors are essential for the regulation of gene expression in plant. They are binding to either enhancer or promoter region of DNA adjacent to the gene and are related to basal transcription regulation, differential enhancement of transcription, development, response to intercellular signals or environment, and cell cycle control. The mechanism in controlling gene expression of transcription can be understood through the assessment of the complete sequence for the maize genome. It is possible that the maize genome encodes 4,000 or more transcription factors because it has undergone whole duplication in the past. Previously, several transcription factors of maize have been characterized. In this review article, the transcription factors were selected using Pfam database, including many family members in comparison with other family and listed as follows: ABI3/VP1, AP2/EREBP, ARF, ARID, AS2, AUX/IAA, BES1, bHLH, bZIP, C2C2-CO-like, C2C2-Dof, C2C2-GATA, C2C2-YABBY, C2H2, E2F/DP, FHA, GARP-ARR-B, GeBP, GRAS, HMG, HSF, MADS, MYB, MYB-related, NAC, PHD, and WRKY family. For analyzing motifs, each amino acid sequence has been aligned with ClustalW and the conserved sequence was shown by sequence logo. This review article will contribute to further study of molecular biological analysis and breeding using the transcription factor of maize as a strategy for selecting target gene.

  • In order to evaluate the properties of the sintered zirconia for optical ferrule, specimens were prepared at 1350, 1400 and $1450^{\circ}C$ using starting materials supplied by A, B and C providers. Crystallinity, microstructure and mechanical strength were tested as a function of sintering temperature. Crystallinity of the sintered specimens was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. A field emission-scanning electron microscope was used for studying the microstructure after sintering. Bending strength and Vickers' hardness were also examined by universial tester and Vickers' hardness tester, respectively. The specimen B sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ was favorable because of its high tetragonality and good mechanical strength for practical usage.

A Study on the Rle and B/C Analysis of National Supported Supercomputing Center (국가 주도 슈퍼컴퓨터센터의 역할과 B/C 분석 및 발전방향)

  • This study attempts to analysis of the 1'ole and B/C(Benefict/Cost)of National Supported Supercomputing Center in process of the promotion for informatization in Korea. ETRI Supercomputing Center, as National Supported Supercomputing Center, was established in 1967 as a laboratory of KIST(Korea Institute of Science and Technology). ETRI Supercomputer Center have acted a leading role as National HPCC(High Performance Computing and Communication) in Korea. The result of B/C analysis of En Supercomputer Center showed that it is twenty times benefit as many as cost for the last 30 years. As soon as possible, it was Suggested that ETRI Supercomputer Center must be developed as National Supercomputing Center(NSC).

  • 개발도상국에 있어서 온라인 구매와 같은 B2C 전자상거래의 확산은 선진국에 비해 느리게 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 전자상거래에 대한 개발도상국의 정보기술 수용에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 실증적으로 분석하기 위하여, TAM 기반의 연구모형을 제시하고 그 가설들을 표본 데이터를 사용하여 검증하였다. 연구 결과, 명성이나 경험과 같은 선행 요인들은 선진국의 경우와 다른 양태로 기술 수용에 영향을 미친다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과는 개발도상국의 B2C 전자상거래 확산을 위한 학계의 연구 및 기업의 운영에 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다.
