With the advantages of high permeability and strength, pervious concrete piles can be suitable for ground improvement with high water content and low bearing capacity. By comparing the strength and permeability of pervious concrete with different aggregate sizes (3-5 mm and 4-6 mm) and porosities (20%, 25%, 30% and 35%), the recommended aggregate size (3-5 mm) and porosity (30%) can be achieved. The model tests of the pervious concrete piles in soft soil (silt and clay) foundations were conducted to evaluate the bearing characteristics, results show that, for the higher consolidation efficiency of the silty foundation, the bearing capacity of the silty foundation is 16% higher, and the pile-soil stress ratio is smaller. But when it is the ultimate load for the piles, they will penetrate into the underlying layer, which reduces the pile-soil stress ratios. With higher skin friction of the pile in the silty foundation, the pile penetration is smaller, so the decrease of the pile axial force can be less. For the difference in consolidation efficiency, the skin friction of pile in silt is more affected by the effective stress of soil, while the skin friction of pile in clay is more affected by the lateral stress. When the load reaches 4400 N, the skin friction of the pile in the silty foundation is about 35% higher than that of the clay foundation.

In this paper, a twisted shape structure with an elevation form favorable to the resistance of vibration caused by wind loads is selected from among the forms of high-rise buildings. The analytical model is a square, triangular, and hexagonal plane with a plane rotation angle of one degree from 0 to 3 degrees per each story. As a result of the analysis, as the twist angle increased, story drift ratio is increased. Responses with different eccentricity rates were shown by analytical models. Therefore planar shapes designed symmetrically to the horizontal axis of X and Y are considered advantageous for eccentricity and torsion deformation. In the case of the bending moment of the column, the response was amplified in the column supporting the base floor, the roof floor, the floor in which the cross-section of the vertical member changes, and the floor having the same number of nodes as the base floor. Finally, the axial force response of the column is determined to be absolutely affected by the gravity load compared to the lateral load.

This study presents similarities and differences between Turkish Building Code for Steel Structures, which are TS 648 and SDCCSS (Specification for Design, Calculation and Construction of Steel Structures) in terms of the design of the members. Hot-rolled I-shaped steel sections for symmetrical and U-shaped steel sections (i.e., channels) for monosymmetric sections were elaborated in detail. The design strength of tension members under tensile load, compression members under axial load and flexural members under flexure and shear were examined separately. Connection details for tension members, slenderness for compression members and distance between lateral supports for flexural members were considered as prime variables. Analysis results revealed the design strength of the tension members where at least one of the cross-sectional parts is not connected to the connection plates, I-shaped compression members where a slenderness ratio is below 39 (𝛌<39), U-shaped compression members and flexural members where Lb is between Lp and Lr (Lpb≤Lr) designed based on TS 648 are greater than those designed based on SDCCSS 2018. Strength differences between the specification can reach 79% for tensile members, 13% for compression members and 9% for flexural members.

Sandwich structures with the superior mechanical properties such as high stiffness and strength-to-weight ratio, good thermal insulation, and high energy absorption capacity are used today in aerospace, automotive, marine, and civil engineering industries. These structures are composed of moderately stiff, thin face sheets that withstand the majority of transverse and in-plane loads, separated by a thick, lightweight core that resists shear forces. In this research, the finite element technique is used to simulate a sandwich panel with a truss core under axial compressive stress using ABAQUS software. A review of past experimental studies shows that the bondline between the core and face sheets plays a vital role in the critical failure load. Therefore, this modeling analyzes the damage initiation modes and debonding between face sheet and core by cohesive surface contact with traction-separation model. According to the results obtained from the modeling, it can be observed that the adhesive stiffness has a significant influence on the critical failure load of the specimens. To achieve the full strength of the structure as a continuum, a lower limit is obtained for the adhesive stiffness. By providing this limit stiffness between the core and the panel face sheets, sudden failure of the structure can be prevented.
Concrete-filled steel tubes (CFSTs) nowadays are widely used as the main parts of momentous structures, and its connection has gained increasing attention as the complexity in configuration and load transfer mechanism. This paper proposes a novel CFST pier-to-footing incorporating tube-confined RC encasement. Such an innovative approach offers several benefits, including expedited on-site assembly, effective confinement, and collision resistance and corrosion resistance. The seismic behavior of such CFST pier-to-footing connection was studied by testing eight specimens under quasi-static cyclic lateral load. In the experimental research, the influences on the seismic behavior and the order of plastic hinge formation were discussed in detail by changing the footing height, axial compression ratio, number and length of anchored bars, and type of confining tube. All the specimens showed sufficient ductility and energy dissipation, without significant strength degradation. There is no obvious failure in the confined footing, while local buckling can be found in the critical section of the pier. It suggests that the footing provides satisfactory strength protection for the connection.

When a fire occurs, the concrete structure's strength decreases by the increasing temperature under the fire in certain condition of constant load. And, the ratio of the axial force is changed by such decreased strength so that the structure is deformed. In this research, considering such case, we have conducted an actual fire test for the concrete lining with constant loading condition and various fire conditions. The specimen adopts the shape condition for small practical specimen defined by the EFNARC and we used 24MPa, 40MPa and 50MPa to analyze the thermal properties by the strength. The ratio of loading is imposed by a certain loading condition based on 20% and 40% of the sectional stress in concrete and MHC Fire is selected to realize the thermal impact of the concrete by rapid increasing temperature. As the result of the experiment, in the same ratio of loading, the 50MPa specimen shows more cracks and spalling as time goes on. The area damaged by the fire, according to the functional criteria of the concrete lining under the fire in ITA, does not satisfy with the standard in lack of 50mm depth from the heating surface at total 200mm lining.
In this study, in order to take advantage of samples collected in the Jangbogo station, and to grasp the liquefaction resistance characteristics of the dynamic load was performed cyclic triaxial test. Also, through the comparison with the existing literature. The test results, for the relationship between number of cycles for the same cyclic shear stress ratio and the cyclic shear stress ratio to produce an axial strain of 5%, in all samples, the cyclic shear stress ratio to liquefaction for the specimen, which has been liquefied, was increased, whereas number of cycles were reduced. The cyclic shear stress ratio of samples first decrease up to the fine content of about 10%. After this strength level, there is a little increase in cyclic shear stress ratio with increasing fine content. In addition, the cyclic shear stress ratio between cohesive strength, mean particle size, and friction angle decrease but some time later, there was a tendency that cyclic shear stress ratio is a little increased.

As advanced earthquake analysis/design methods such as the nonlinear static analysis are developed, it is required to estimate precisely the cyclic behavior of reinforced concrete members that is characterized by strength, deformability, and capacity of energy dissipation. However, currently, estimation of energy dissipation depends on empirical equations that are not sufficiently accurate, or experiment and sophisticated numerical analysis which are difficult to use in practice. In the present study, nonlinear finite element analysis was performed to investigate the behavioral characteristics of flexure-dominant RC members under cyclic load. The effects of axial force, arrangement of reinforcing bars, and reinforcement ratio on the cyclic behavior were studied. Based on the investigation, a simplified method to estimate the capacity of energy dissipation was proposed, and it was verified by the comparison with the finite element analyses and experiments. The proposed method can estimate the energy dissipation of RC members more precisely than currently used empirical equations, and it is easily applicable in practice.

Four 3-story 1/2 scaled large concrete panel structures were designed and tested to estimate the seismic resistance capacity of large concrete panel high rise building systems, Test specimens were modeled three story of 24 or 15 story buildings and set up to represent the actural stress of the building . The axial force was constant and the horizontal force was loaded by ductility ratio. Results indicated that the joints of specimens were behavied monolithically to maximum strength. It was shown that the joint box connecting system had lower maximum strength and energy dissipation capacity than welding connection system, but had better deformation capacity.

Recent destructive seismic events demonstrated the importance of mitigating human casualties and serious property damages in design and construction of structures. The Korean Bridge Design Specifications (1992) adopted seismic design requirements based on the AASHTO specification, and minor modification was made in 2000. The longitudinal steel connection of reinforced concrete bridge column is sometimes practically unavoidable. The longitudinal reinforcement details affect seismic performance such as flexural failure and shear failure. This research aims to develop longitudinal steel connection details with confinement steel by experimental study for seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridge columns. Quasi-static test under three different axial load levels was conducted for 12 spiral column specimens. All the column specimens had the same aspect ratio of 3.5. The column specimens were transversely reinforced with spiral and with five different longitudinal steel connection. The final objective of this study is to suggest appropriate longitudinal reinforcement connection details for the limited ductility design concept and improve construction quality.
