One of the most popular pre-reinforcement methods of tunnel heading in cohesionless soils would be the fore-polling of grouted pipes, known as RPUM (reinforced protective umbrella method) or UAM (umbrella arch method). This technique allows safe excavation even in poor ground conditions by creating longitudinal arch parallel to the tunnel axis as the tunnel advances. Some previous studies on the reinforcing effects have been performed using numerical methods and/or laboratory-based small scale model tests. The complexity of boundary conditions imposes difficulties in representing the tunnelling procedure in laboratory tests and theoretical approaches. Full-scale study to identify reinforcing effects of the tunnel heading has rarely been carried out so far. In this study, a large scale model testing for a tunnel in granular soils was performed. Reinforcing patterns considered are four cases, Non-Reinforced, Crown-Reinforced, Crown & Face-Reinforced, and Face-Reinforced. The behavior of ground and pipes as reinforcing member were fully measured as the surcharge pressure applied. The influences of reinforcing pattern, pipe length, and face reinforcement were investigated in terms of stress and displacement. It is revealed that only the Face-Reinforced has decreased sufficiently both vertical settlement in tunnel heading and horizontal displacement on the face. Vertical stresses along the tunnel axis were concentrated in tunnel heading from the test results, so the heading should be reinforced before tunnel advancing. Most of maximum axial forces and bending moments for Crown-reinforced were measured at 0.75D from the face. Also it should be recommended that the minimum length of the pipe is more than l.0D for crown reinforcement.

Purpose: Philips GEMINI is a newly introduced whole-body GSO PET/CT scanner. In this study, performance of the scanner including spatial resolution, sensitivity, scatter fraction, noise equivalent count ratio (NECR) was measured utilizing NEMA NU2-2001 standard protocol and compared with performance of LSO, BGO crystal scanner. Methods: GEMINI is composed of the Philips ALLEGRO PET and MX8000 D multi-slice CT scanners. The PET scanner has 28 detector segments which have an array of 29 by 22 GSO crystals ($4{\times}6{\times}20$ mm), covering axial FOV of 18 cm. PET data to measure spatial resolution, sensitivity, scatter fraction, and NECR were acquired in 3D mode according to the NEMA NU2 protocols (coincidence window: 8 ns, energy window: $409[\sim}664$ keV). For the measurement of spatial resolution, images were reconstructed with FBP using ramp filter and an iterative reconstruction algorithm, 3D RAMLA. Data for sensitivity measurement were acquired using NEMA sensitivity phantom filled with F-18 solution and surrounded by $1{\sim}5$ aluminum sleeves after we confirmed that dead time loss did not exceed 1%. To measure NECR and scatter fraction, 1110 MBq of F-18 solution was injected into a NEMA scatter phantom with a length of 70 cm and dynamic scan with 20-min frame duration was acquired for 7 half-lives. Oblique sinograms were collapsed into transaxial slices using single slice rebinning method, and true to background (scatter+random) ratio for each slice and frame was estimated. Scatter fraction was determined by averaging the true to background ratio of last 3 frames in which the dead time loss was below 1%. Results: Transverse and axial resolutions at 1cm radius were (1) 5.3 and 6.5 mm (FBP), (2) 5.1 and 5.9 mm (3D RAMLA). Transverse radial, transverse tangential, and axial resolution at 10 cm were (1) 5.7, 5.7, and 7.0 mm (FBP), (2) 5.4, 5.4, and 6.4 mm (3D RAMLA). Attenuation free values of sensitivity were 3,620 counts/sec/MBq at the center of transaxial FOV and 4,324 counts/sec/MBq at 10 cm offset from the center. Scatter fraction was 40.6%, and peak true count rate and NECR were 88.9 kcps @ 12.9 kBq/mL and 34.3 kcps @ 8.84 kBq/mL. These characteristics are better than that of ECAT EXACT PET scanner with BGO crystal. Conclusion: The results of this field test demonstrate high resolution, sensitivity and count rate performance of the 3D PET/CT scanner with GSO crystal. The data provided here will be useful for the comparative study with other 3D PET/CT scanners using BGO or LSO crystals.
Objective: Facial asymmetry is usually evaluated from the difference in length and angulation of the maxilla and mandible. However, asymmetric position or shape of the condyle can also affect the expression of asymmetry. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between condylar asymmetry and chin point deviation in facial asymmetry. Methods: Cone-beam CT images of fifty adult skeletal Class III patients were studied. Thirty patients who had more than 4 mm menton deviation were categorized in the asymmetric group. Twenty patients with less than 4 mm menton deviation were assigned to the symmetric group. Anteroposterior and transverse condyle positions were evaluated from the cranial base. The greatest mediolateral diameter (GMD) of the condyle in the axial plane and angulation to the coronal plane were measured. The height and volume of the condyles were evaluated. Results: The symmetric group had no statistical difference between both condyles in position, angulation, GMD, height and volume. In the asymmetric group, the non-deviated side condyle was larger in GMD, height and volume than the deviated side. There was no statistical difference in condyle position and angulation. The GMD, height difference and condylar volume ratio (non-deviated/deviated) were positively correlated with chin deviation. From the linear regression analysis, condylar volume ratio was a significant factor affecting chin deviation. Conclusions: These findings suggests that the non-deviated side condyle is larger than the deviated side. In addition, condylar asymmetry can affect the expression of facial asymmetry.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to perform three-dimensional (3D) assessment of facial soft tissue in patients with skeletal Class III and mandibular asymmetry after orthognathic surgery. Methods: Samples consisted of 3D facial images obtained from five patients with A point-nasion-B point angle less than 2 degrees, and more than 5 mm of menton deviation. All patients had been treated at Gangneung-Wonju National University Dental Hospital from 2009 to 2012. They had undergone orthognathic surgery of Lefort I, and sagittal split osteotomy for correction of skeletal deformity, and orthodontic treatment. Facial scanning was performed before treatment (T1) and post-surgical orthodontic treatment (T2). Linear and angle variables of soft tissue landmarks, antero-posterior facial depth, and facial volume were measured. Results: No significant differences in width of the alar base, mouth width, and nasal canting were observed between T1 and T2. However, lip deviation, menton deviation, alar canting, lip canting, and menton deviation angle were significantly reduced at T2. Antero-posterior facial depth on the axial plane parallel to the left cheilion was significantly reduced on the deviated side and significantly increased on the non-deviated side at T2. Volume of the lower lateral and lower medial parts of the face was reduced on the deviated side, and volume of upper lateral and lower lateral parts on the non-deviated side was significantly increased at T2. Conclusion: After orthognathic surgery, facial asymmetry of soft tissue was improved following skeletal changes, especially the mandibular region. Although the length of the alar base and mouth width did not change, lip and soft tissue menton were displaced to the medial side after treatment. Facial depth also became symmetric after treatment. Facial volume showed a decrease on the lower part of the deviated side and that on lateral parts of the non-deviated side showed an increase after treatment.
In this study reinforcing effect of soil nailed-drilled shafts subjected to axial and lateral loads was evaluated. Special attention was given to the reinforcing effects of soil nails placed from the drilled shafts to surrounding weathered- and soft-rocks based on model tests, numerical analyses and field tests. The model tests and numerical analyses are conducted to analyze the reinforcing effect of various conditions of number, inclination, position and length. The results of 1/40 scale model tests and numerical analyses show that as the number of reinforcing level increases, the incremental effect of reinforcement tends to increase, whereas the reinforcing effect on relative position is negligible. In addition there is a reinforcing effect as the inclination angle increase up to 30 degrees. Based on the results of tensile load tests, soil nailed-drilled shaft has a considerably smaller settlement to reach the ultimate level compared with the result of un-reinforced drilled shafts. For compression tests, there is a reinforcing effect of about 200% measured.

Experimental study on characteristics of direct contact condensation of steam discharged into a sub-cooled water pool has been performed using five different sizes of horizontal nozzle over a wide range of steam mass fluxes and pool temperatures. Steam condensation phenomena have been observed visually and by taking pictures of steam jets using a high speed video camera. Two different steam jet shapes such as ellipsoidal shape and conical shape were typically observed for a stable steam jet, depending on the steam mass flux and pool temperature. The steam jet expansion ratio and the steam jet length as well as the condensation heat transfer coefficients were determined. The effect of steam mass flux, pool temperature, and nozzle diameter on these parameters were also discussed. Empirical correlations for the steam jet lengths and the condensation heat transfer coefficients as a function of steam mass flux and condensation driving potential were established. The axial and radial temperature distributions in steam jet and in surrounding water were measured. The effect of steam mass flux, pool temperature, and nozzle diameter were also discussed. The condensation regime map, which consists of six regimes such as chugging, transient chugging, condensation oscillation, stable condensation, bubble condensation oscillation, and intermittent oscillation condensation, were established. In addition, the dynamic pressures at the pool wall were measured. The close relation of dynamic pressure and steam condensation mode, which is also dependent on steam mass flux and pool temperature, was found.

It was used boundary element method(BEM) and analysed axisymmetric problem to solve hydraulic cylinder for large vessel acting uniform internal pressure(25N/m super(2)) within elastic limit. This paper was utilized the carbon steel tubes for machine structural purposed model, inner radius was 150mm and outer radius was 250mm, axial length was semi-infinite and the isoparametric element was used. The important results obtained in this study were summarized as follows. Radial, tangential and shearing stress occured the maximum stresses(48, -20 and 34MPa) at the inner radius and the minimum stresses(32, -4 and 18MPa) at the outer radius of the hydraulic cylinder for large vessel. But negative signs have meaning compressive stress and stress diminution ratio was about 0.15MPa/mm. The use of isoparametric element raised accuracy and the increment of input data lessened the error in internal point but computer run-time was increased. The double node was improved the internal solutions to settle discontinuity at corner and the double exponential formula lessened error of stress value at boundary neighborhood. And then coincidence between the analytical and exact results is found to be fairly good, showing that the proposed analytical by BEM is reliable.

Numerical simulation was carried out to study the trichloroethylene (TCE) degradation by permeable reactive barrier (PRB), and revealed the effect of concentration of TCE, iron medium mass, and concentration of iron-reducing bacteria (IRB). Newly developed model was based on axial dispersion reactor model with chemical and biological reaction terms and was implemented using MATLAB ver R2006A for the numerical solutions of dispersion, convection, and reactions over column length and elapsed time. The reaction terms include reactions of TCE degradation by zero-valent iron (ZVI, Fe$^0$) and ferrous iron (Fe$^{2+}$). TCE concentration in the column inlet was maintained as 10 mg/L. Equation for Fe$^0$ degradation includes only TCE reaction term, while one for Fe$^{2+}$ has chemical and biological reaction terms with TCE and IRB, respectively. Two coupled equations eventually modeled the change of TCE concentration in a column. At Fe$^0$ column, TCE degradation rate was found to be more than 99% from 60 hours to 235 hours, and declined to less than 1% in 1,365 hours. At the Fe$^{2+}$ and IRB mixed column, TCE degradation rate was equilibrated at 85.3% after 210 hours and kept it constant. These results imply that the ferrous iron produced by IRB has lowered the TCE degradation efficiency than ZVI but it can have higher longevity.http://kci.go.kr/kciportal/ci/contents/ciConnReprerSearchPopup.kci#
Filtering is necessary to reduce statistical noise and to increase image quality in SPECT images. Noises controled by low-pass filter designed to suppress high spatial frequency in SPECT image. Most SPECT filter function control the degree of high frequency supression by chosing a cut of frequency. The location of cut off frequency determines the affect image noise and spatial resolution. If select the low cut off frequency, its provide good noise suppression but insufficient image quantity and high cut off frequencies increase the image resolution but insufficient noise suppression. The purpose of this study was to determines the optimam cut off level with comparison of FWHM according to cut off level in each kiters-Band-limited, Sheep-logan, Sheep-logan Hanning, Generalized Hamming, Low pass cosine, Parazen and Butterworth filter in SPECT camera. We recorded image along the X, Y, Z-axis with $^{99m}TcO_4$ point source and measured FWHM by use profile curve. We find averaged length is $9.16\;mm{\sim}18.14\;mm$ of FWHM in X, Y, and Z-axis, and Band-limited and Generalized Hamming filters measures 9.16 mm at 0.7 cycle/pixel cut off frequency.
Residual stress is defined as stress that already exists on a structural member from the effects of welding and plastic deformation before the application of loading. Due to such residual stress, welded H-section compression members under centroidal compression load can undergo buckling and failure for strength values smaller than the predicted buckling load and specified compressive strength. Therefore, this study was carried out to evaluate the effect of residual stress from welding on the determination of the buckling load and specified compressive strength of the H-section compression member according to the column length variation. A three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis was performed for the H-section compression member where the welded joint was fillet welded by applying heat inputs of 3.1kJ/mm and 3.6kJ/mm using the SAW welding method.
