  • In this work, we calculate drop in antenna gain, aperture phase distribution, and antenna pointing shift of KVN(Korean VLBI Network) 21m shaped Cassegrain antenna due to misalignments of antenna optics using ray-tracing method. The misalignments we considered are axial displacement of feed, axial displacement of sub-reflector, lateral displacement of feed, lateral displacement of sub-reflector, and sub-reflector tilt. Calculations are performed not only when these misalignments exist separately, but also when they exist at the same time. Although ray-tracing method is based on geometric optics which does not consider electromagnetic effects, we expect that this work enables us to align antenna optics which give the maximum gain.

  • The TC&R(Telemetry, Command & Ranging) antennas should have the hemispherical omni antenna patterns to make sure that the communication link between the satellite and the ground station can be established under whatever satellite attitude during after launch to on-orbit mission. The hemispherical omni-antennas are typically placed on the +z axis and -z axis of the satellite to provide the spherical omni patterns. The S-band qaudrifilar helix antennas having RHCP and LHCP hemispherical omni pattern are designed to meet the antenna gain and the axial ratio requirements. To investigate the omni-antenna pattern characteristics depending on four cases of antenna polarization combination placed on the +z axis and -z axis, the antenna pattern of each case is analyzed. Based on the result, after installing the designed RHCP and LHCP S-band omni-antennas on the +z axis and -z axis of the satellite, the combined antenna gain is obtained and finally analyzed in conjunction with the communication link influence.

  • This paper presents a wideband technique of impedance and axial-ratio bandwidth which uses the stacked planar array structure through optimum design of sub-polarization generating sections and parasitic patch. So, the effect of the dual-resonance characteristic can contribute to the bandwidth expansion of single fed planar array antenna using circular polarization which doesn\`t hire previous bandwidth expansion technique. The antenna can be used as a dual-band antenna by adjusting the resonance frequencies as well, and then the antenna is designed and fabricated in the frequency band of domestic satellite-TV service. This antenna has the performance of 9.7 % impedance bandwidth and 24 dBi of antenna gain. And it has also 2.8 % and 1.4 % of 3 dB Axial-ratio bandwidth at 11.4 GHz and 11.8 GHz respectively.

  • In this paper, a design for the 900MHz bandwidth RFID reader antenna with circular polarization is proposed and experimentally investigated. The 900MHz bandwidth RFID reader antenna is proposed as a simple radiator with loading capacitor to generate LHCP(Left Hand Circular Polarization). Also, the design and fabrication of antenna has the returnloss of -32.28dB at the center frequency of 1010MHz and Bandwidth of 12.5% at 905Hz~1030MHz. Proposed LHCP antenna of maximum gain is 6dBi and satisfy axial ratio based on 2. From the measured result, axial ratios based on 2 are observed at the operating frequencies. The proposed antenna is suitable for RFID applications in wireless communications.

  • In this paper, dual-polarized antenna for UHF RFID reader has been described. Feeding network and antenna structure have been designed, such that both port isolation between transmitting and receiving port and cross-polarization be maximized, and overall antenna size be minimized as well. In addition, sequentially rotated feeding scheme has been adopted to secure axial ratio bandwidth in the circular polarization. Test results show 2.35 dBi antenna gain in 900 to 928 MHz frequency range and 150 MHz axial ratio bandwidth, respectively. And, the proposed antenna has a port isolation of -40 to -38 dB and a cross-polarization of -40 to -30 dB.

  • In this study, the impact of ring supports around the shell circumferential has been examined for their various positions along the shell axial length using Rayleigh-Ritz formulation. These shells are stiffened by rings in the tangential direction. For isotropic materials, the physical properties are same everywhere where the laminated and functionally graded materials, they vary from point to point. Here the shell material has been taken as functionally graded material. The influence of the ring supports is investigated at various positions. These variations have been plotted against the locations of ring supports for three values of length-to-diameter ratios. Effect of ring supports with middle layer thickness is presented using the Rayleigh-Ritz procedure with three different conditions. The influence of the positions of ring supports for clamped-clamped is more visible than simply supported and clamped-free end conditions. The frequency first increases and gain maximum value in the midway of the shell length and then lowers down. The Lagrangian functional is created by adding the energy expressions for the shell and rings. The axial modal deformations are approximated by making use of the beam functions. The comparisons of frequencies have been made for efficiency and robustness for the present numerical procedure. Throughout the computation, it is observed that the frequency behavior for the boundary conditions follow as; clamped-clamped, simply supported-simply supported frequency curves are higher than that of clamped-simply curves. To generate the fundamental natural frequencies and for better accuracy and effectiveness, the computer software MATLAB is used.

  • In this paper, the design of a 0.5~2 GHz cavity-backed spiral antenna is described. Combined arm pattern with a log spiral in the inner region and an Archimedean spiral in the outer region, a backing cavity, and a Marchand coaxial balun for feeding are designed. Termination resistors are used to improve antenna characteristics at the lower frequency of the operation frequency. VSWR, axial ratio, gain and HPBW(Half Power Beam Width) characteristics are simulated using CST's MWS. Finally, the validity of these approaches is verified by comparing the simulated results with the measured ones. Also, the measurement results are compared with the performance of a commercial spiral antenna.

  • To gain understanding of the applicability of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) cable in cable-supported bridges, based on the Runyang Bridge and Jinsha Bridge, a suspension bridge using CFRP cables and a cable-stayed bridge using CFRP stay cables are schemed, in which the cable's cross-sectional area is determined by the principle of equivalent axial stiffness. Numerical investigations on the dynamic behavior, aerostatic and aerodynamic stability of the two bridges are conducted by 3D nonlinear analysis, and the effect of different cable materials on the wind resistance is discussed. The results show that as CFRP cables are used in cable-supported bridges, (1) structural natural frequencies are all increased, and particularly great increase of the torsional frequency occurs for suspension bridges; (2) under the static wind action, structural deformation is increased, however its aerostatic stability is basically remained the same as that of the case with steel cables; (3) for suspension bridge, its aerodynamic stability is superior to that of the case with steel cables, but for cable-stayed bridge, it is basically the same as that of the case with steel stay cables. Therefore as far as the wind resistance is considered, the use of CFRP cables in cable-supported bridges is feasible, and the cable's cross-sectional area should be determined by the principle of equivalent axial stiffness.

  • We propose a method for increasing the bandwidth of a substrate-integrated-waveguide (SIW) cavity-backed antenna with taper-based micro-strip SIW transition feeding. For radio transmission, a circular slot is etched on top of the SIW cavity. For optimal antenna design, the slot is etched slightly away from the cavity center to generate circularly polarized waves. Simulations show a wide axial ratio bandwidth of 7.860% between 11.02 GHz and 11.806 GHz. Experimental results confirm a similar wide axial ratio bandwidth of 4.9% between 10.8 GHz and 11.35 GHz. An SIW feed from an inductive window excites the radiating circular slot, resulting in a simulated wide impedance range of 1.548 GHz (10.338 GHz-11.886 GHz) and bandwidth of 13.93%. Experimental results show a wide impedance of 2.08 GHz (10.2 GHz-12.08 GHz) and bandwidth of 18.84%. The SIW cavity-backed antenna creates a unidirectional pattern, leading to gains of 6.61 dBi and 7.594 dBi in simulations and experiments, respectively. The proposed antenna was fabricated on a Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 substrate, and the reflection coefficient, radiation patterns, and gains were tested and compared using a computer simulator. The developed broadband antenna seems suitable for X-band applications.

  • In this paper, the high gain and broadband antenna operating for SDMB(Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) system is realized, The proposed antenna consists of the SAP(Shorted Annular Patch) structure, which inhibits surface-wave and the parasitic SAP element with spacing of $0.25 {\lambda}_0$ in order to improve gain, bandwidth and directivity. The RHCP(Right Hand Circular Polarization) is generated by two slits, which are made along the periphery of the circular patch at the diametrically opposite points, The simulated maximum gain of the proposed antenna is 12.6 dBi, which is better 5.22 dBi than maximum gain of the conventional microstrip patch antenna. The measured maximum gain is 10.5dBi at operating frequency 2.63GHz. Also, the measured impedance bandwidth$(VSWR{\leq}2)$ of the proposed antenna is $360MHz(2.488{\sim}2.848 GHz)$, which is better 300 MHz than the bandwidth of the conventional microstrip patch antenna. The measured HPBW(Half Power Beam Width) of the proposed antenna is $45.8^{\circ}$, and the measured FBR(Front to Back Ratio) is 15.49 dBi, The 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 220 MHz$(2.54{\sim}2.76 GHz)$.
