Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted among 200 university students in Malaysia. A self administered questionnaire was used to collect data. It included questions on sociodemographic data, awareness and knowledge of oral cancer. Results: Mean age of the respondents was $21.5{\pm}2.5$ and the age ranged from 18 to 27 years. The majority of the respondents were aware of oral cancer (92.0%) and recognized the followings as signs and symptoms of oral cancer: ulcer and oral bleeding (71.0%), followed by swelling (61.5%). A satisfactory knowledge was observed on the following risk factors; smoking (95.5%), poor oral hygiene (90.5%), family history (90.0%), alcohol (84.5%) and poor fitting dentures (83.0%). Attitude score and knowledge score were 12.4 and 15.0, respectively. There were differences in attitude toward muscle health according to gender, age, physical activity, and diet habits. However, there was no difference in attitude toward muscle health according to educational level, smoking, drinking, or sleeping. Conclusion: It is necessary to seek a strategy to improve awareness and attitude toward muscle health based on knowledge, not merely to raise knowledge level about muscle health. Since nurses play a central role in health promotion and disease prevention, they should also play an important role in strategic development and application of intervention.

Methods: Participants living in Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do who were at least 55 years old from November 2020 to March 2021 were included in this study. The chi-square test was performed to examine the age-specific perception of insurance-covered dental implants (p<0.05). Results: The age group that was the most interested in implants was the 70s age group, and the difference between this age group and the other age groups was statistically significant. Those in their 70's, 80's, and 90's or older paid about 600,000 won including dental implants covered by insurance, and there was a significant difference (p<0.05). Those in their 60s, 70s, and 80s estimated the highest value of implants covered by insurance as two and showed a significant difference (p<0.05). The awareness of the dental implant insurance by age showed that all age groups, except for the ≥90 years age group, considered the insurance to be mediocre mostly due to the large co-payment (p<0.05). Conclusion: There were differences by age in the awareness of dental implant insurance, co-payments, number of applications, and insurance coverage. The perceptions on dental implant insurance by age showed that all age groups except for those over 90 years and older, they considered the insurance was just mediocre the most.

  • The purpose of this study was through a survey of awareness of cancer and cancer screening of Korean community residents to identify the stereotypes of cancer and bases for development of improved screening programs for early detection. Subjects were residing in South Korea Gangwon-Province and were over 30 years and under 69 years old. The total was 2,700 persons which underwent structured telephone survey questionnaires considered with specific rates of gender, region, and age. For statistical analysis, PASW Statistics 17.0 WIN was utilized. Frequency analysis, the Chi-square (${\chi}^2$) test for univariate analysis, and logistic regression analysis were performed. The awareness of cancer and cancer screening in subjects differed by gender, region and age. For the idea of cancer, women thought about death less than men (OR: 0.73, p<0.001). On the other hand, women had negative thoughts - fear/terror/suffering/pain/pain - more than their male counterparts (OR: 2.04, p<0.001). Next, for the idea of cancer screening, women recognized fear/terror more than men (OR: 1.38, p<0.01). The higher age, the more tension/anxiety/worry/burden/irritated/pressure (OR: 1.43, p<0.01, OR: 2.15, p<0.001, OR: 2.49, p<0.001)). People may be reminded of fear and death for cancer and of fear, terror, tension and anxiety for cancer screening. To change vague fear and negative attitudes of cancer could increase the rate of cancer screening as well as help to improve the quality of life for community cancer survivors and facilitate return to normal social life. Therefore, it is necessary to provide promotion and education to improve the awareness of cancer and cancer screening.

Age, gender, ethnicity, marital status, education, occupation and income were significantly associated with oral cancer awareness (p<0.05). Conclusions: There was a general lack of awareness regarding the risk habits, early signs and symptoms, and the benefits of detecting this disease at an early stage. Mass media and health campaigns were the main sources of information about oral cancer. In our Malaysian population, gender and age were significantly associated with the awareness of early signs and symptoms and prevention of oral cancer, respectively.

  • In pediatric dentistry, sedation therapy is one of methods for managing children's behavior, and various types of sedation therapy are being used. Thus, this study surveyed the awareness of and satisfaction with sedation therapy in 204 parents who visited the Pediatric Dentistry using a self-administered questionnaire during the period from June to December 2008 in order to get information necessary in behavior management for pediatric patients, and obtained results as follows. 1. The most common path of learning about sedation therapy was dentistry (49.5%), and the most common reason for choosing sedation therapy was 'The child was young'(42.3%), which was followed by 'The child is too afraid'(18.8%), 'There are many teeth to be treated'(16.0%), 'To adjust the number of visits'(11.3%), and 'For behavior management'(3.1%). 2. Most of the parents felt anxiety about sedation therapy, and the reasons for the anxiety were 'The child was young'(33.0%), 'Worry about side effects'(31.3%), 'Worry about recovery of consciousness'(25.7%), 'Worry about the blunting of intellectual abilities'(7.6%), and others (2.4%). 3. Satisfaction with sedation therapy was higher in men than in women, and was high in order of 'Stationing of an anesthetist', 'One time completion of treatment', and 'Cautions'. Statistically significant difference was observed between men and women only in question "Have you ever heard about sedation therapy?"(p=0.018). 4. According to age, satisfaction with sedation therapy was highest in parents whose child was less than 48 months old. Satisfaction was high in order of 'Stationing of an anesthetist', 'One time completion of treatment', and 'Cautions', 'Choice of sedation therapy', and statistically significant difference was observed according to age only in question "Have you ever heard about sedation therapy?"(P=0.005). 5. Positive correlation was observed among questions on satisfaction with sedation therapy. In the survey on the awareness of and satisfaction with sedation therapy in parents visiting the dentistry, awareness and satisfaction were generally high with regard to the parents' choice of sedation therapy, but many of the parents answered that they chose sedation therapy and felt anxiety because their child was young. The results of this study need to be considered for behavior management in pediatric dentistry and there should be systematic education and promotion of sedation therapy.
