  • The collision avoidance maneuver flight simulation for tilt rotor unmanned aerial vehicle was performed by time-accurate numerical integration method based on wind tunnel test data. Five representative collision avoidance maneuvers were simulated under constraints of aerodynamic stall, propulsion power, structural load, and control actuator capability. The collision avoidance performances of the maneuvers were compared by the computed collision avoidance times. The sensitivities of initial flight speed and collision zone shape on the collision avoidance time were investigated. From these results, it was found that the moderate pull-up turn maneuver defined using moderate pitch and maximum roll controls within simulation constraints is the most robust and efficient collision avoidance maneuver under the various flight speeds and collision object shapes in the tilt rotor UAV applications.

  • In this paper, the authors introduced a new approach to find the optimal collision avoidance maneuver considering multi threatening objects within short period, while satisfying constraints on the fuel limit and the acceptable collision probability. A preliminary effort in applying a genetic algorithm (GA) to those kinds of problems has also been demonstrated through a simulation study with a simple case problem and various fitness functions. And then, GA is applied to the complex case problem including multi-threatening objects. Two distinct collision avoidance maneuvers are dealt with: the first is in-track direction of collision avoidance maneuver. The second considers radial, in-track, cross-track direction maneuver. The results show that the first case violates the collision probability threshold, while the second case does not violate the threshold with satisfaction of all conditions. Various factors for analyzing and planning the optimal collision avoidance maneuver are also presented.

  • The concept of the satellite formation flight is area where it is actively study with expandability and safety compare to existing satellite. For execution of duty with more safety issue, it needs to consider hot topic of space debris for operation of formation flight. In this paper, it suggests heuristic algorithm to have avoidance maneuver for space debris towards operating flight formation. Indeed it covers, using common software, operating simulation to nearest space environment and not only to have goal of avoidance but also minimizing the usage of fuel and finding optimization for maximizing cycle of formation flight. For improvement on convergence speed of existing heuristic algorithm, it substitute to hybrid heuristic algorithm, PSOGSA, and the result of simulation, it represents the satisfaction of minimum range for successful avoidance maneuver and compare to not using avoidance maneuver, it keeps more than three times of formation maintenance performance. From these, it is meaningful results of showing several success goals like simple avoidance collision and fuel usage and decreasing number of times of maintaining formation maneuver.

  • In this paper, a collision avoidance maneuver frequency for the KOMPSAT-2 and the KOMPSAT-5 is analyzed. For the statistical prediction of the avoidance maneuver frequency, mission orbits, responsive time, accepted collision probabilities, and positional uncertainties of primary and secondary objects are considered. In addition, the collision avoidance maneuver frequency of the KOMPSAT-2 is compared to the case that NORAD catalog during one year is used to calculate that of the KOMPSAT-2. As a result, the collision avoidance maneuver frequency is one per year on average and effective factors on the statistical prediction of the avoidance maneuver frequency are investigated. Efforts to improve its prediction accuracy are also discussed.

  • In this paper, a collision avoidance maneuver was sought for low Earth orbit (LEO) and geostationary Earth orbit (GEO) satellites maintained in a keeping area. A genetic algorithm was used to obtain both the maneuver start time and the delta-V to reduce the probability of collision with uncontrolled space objects or debris. Numerical simulations demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed algorithm for both LEO satellites and GEO satellites.

  • The launch vehicle upper stage generally executes collision and contamination avoidance maneuver after the satellite separation. Through this maneuver the satellite safely settles in its orbit and the launch vehicle moves away from the satellite with minimum contamination. In this paper collision and contamination avoidance maneuvers by foreign launch vehicles are analyzed. Criteria for satellite contamination during the avoidance maneuver is given for KSLV-I upperstage.

  • In this study, an analytical algorithm for collision avoidance is proposed, which is applicable to designing collision avoidance maneuvers for two encountering ships. The minimum separation distance is defined and an appropriate maneuver sequence is computed for safe and effective collision avoidance. Two approaches: 1) collision avoidance through speed change and 2) collision avoidance through heading change, are considered, and the initiation point of the avoidance maneuver is computed analytically using the geometric configuration of the two encountering ships. To verify the feasibility of the proposed algorithm, numerical simulations are carried out using a set of ship-to-ship encountering scenarios.

  • Recently, many countries have attempted to protect their satellites from damage caused by space debris. To design these collision avoidance maneuvers, optimal algorithms based on numerical simulations are widely used due to their practicality. However, these algorithms often require a great expenditure of time in order to find solutions. Therefore, in this paper, a simple analytical strategy is suggested to find the initial prediction required to find these numerical solutions for collision avoidance maneuvers by using relative dynamics for the rendezvous and docking problems. For this analytical strategy, the simple dynamics on the CW (Clohessy-Wiltshire) frame is adopted as an attempt to introduce an analytical solution.

  • In this study, vehicle directional stability is investigated for limit driving for crash avoidance maneuver using a full vehicle dynamic model. The model was analytically validated using typical step steering and lane change simulation. Limit driving condition for the vehicle model was quoted from research results of references. It was demonstrated that instable vehicle motion was caused by not only road conditions but also driving conditions. Also, the simulation showed that braking combined with steering caused very hazardous situation in crash avoidance maneuver. Finally, phase plane plot approach was used to evaluate the dynamic instability.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the human driving behavior based on the expression as a GMDH technique focusing on the driver's collision avoidance maneuver. The driving data are collected by using the three dimensional driving simulator based on CAVE, which provides stereoscopic immersive vision. A GMDH is also introduced and applied to the measured data in order to build a mathematical model of driving behavior. From the obtained model, it is found that the longitudinal distance between cars($x_1$), the longitudinal relative velocity($x_2$) and the lateral displacement between cars($x_4$) play important roles in the collision avoidance maneuver under the 3D environments.
