  • This paper describes a proposal for average crack width and immediate deflection calculation in structural concrete members. The model is mathematically derived from actual bond stressslip relationships and tension stiffening effect between reinforcement and the surrounding concrete, and the actual strains of steel and concrete are integrated respectively along the embedded length between the adjacent cracks so as to obtain the difference in the axial elongation. With these, a model for average crack width and immediate deflection in reinforced concrete flexural members are proposed utilizing difference in the axial elongation and average steel strain and moment-curvature relationship with taking account of bond characteristics. The model is applied to the test specimens available in literatures, and the crack width and deflections predicted by the proposal equation in this study are closed to the experimentally measured data compared the current code provisions.

  • A new joint source channel coding reduces both input-width and average current consumption to transmit image data to LCD source drivers. As a source coding, it is based on entropy coding of differential pulse code modulation scheme, especially using median edge detector of image predictor. As a channel coding, it is not a simple pulse amplitude modulation, but linked by source entropy to reduce average amplitude. Simulation results show 1/4 width is achievable by 16-valued transmission with keeping conventional current consumption (0.36 to 1.3).

  • This study was investigated a optimum planting density of urban public park in seoul. Eight species commonly usd as landscape plants were selected. The survey was conducted to measure hight and width of the trees by five years interval. The results are summarized as follows. The average annual growth rates of the trees after planting were 7.4% in height 11.7% in width. Faster grown trees than average growth rate of the survey tres wee Metasequoia, glyptostroboides and Acer buergerianum, While the slower grown trees were Pinus koraiensis, Ginkgo biloba and Zelkova serrata. The average grown trees were Pinus strobus, Pinus densiflora and Acer palmatum . The planting density of survey area was 0.20tree/$m^2$. The optimum planting density was kept until five years after planting, however overcrowding density was found beyond five years after planting. This study also found the density of ten years after planting reaches about 3 times of optimum density.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyse and evaluate the morphology of the articular eminence of temporomandibular joint in young Korean adults using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: One hundred seventy-one subjects (59 males, 112 females) in the 20s were examined using CBCT. Width and height of articular eminence, top-roof line angle, best-fit line angle, joint space were measured. For the group comparisons, independent t-test was used with the level of significance established at $p{\leq}0.05$. Results: In asymptomatic young Korean adults, average eminence width was $9.49{\pm}1.62mm$ in males and $9.33{\pm}1.36mm$ in females. Average eminence height was $7.23{\pm}1.81mm$ in males and $6.82{\pm}1.31mm$ in females. Average eminence inclination of measured by top-roof line angle was $37.09^{\circ}{\pm}7.74^{\circ}$ in males and $36.12^{\circ}{\pm}5.65^{\circ}$ in females. Average eminence inclination measured by best-fit line angle was $50.79^{\circ}{\pm}11.49^{\circ}$ in males and $48.43^{\circ}{\pm}9.05^{\circ}$ in females. Average joint space was $3.03{\pm}0.67mm$ in males and $2.63{\pm}0.68mm$ in females. Conclusions: Increasing age did not affect the morphology of the articular eminence in asymptomatic young Korean adults. Males had slightly larger eminence width, height, top-roof line angle, best-fit line angle and joint space, but no statistical significance (p>0.05) was observed only in the joint space (p=0.001). There was no side-to-side difference in morphology (p>0.05).

  • A field experiment was conducted to examine the fruit quality characters in second generation ($F_2$) hybrid cultivar and to compare the fruit characters with original $F_1$ hybrid cultivar of minipaprika (yellow and orange type) at the Research Farm, Hwacheon in July, 2010. Fruit characters varied within $F_2$ population of each minipaprika type. In minipaprika yellow, fruit weight varied from 12.2 g to 50.8 g (average 28.5 g) and fruit length/width varied from 1.4 to 2.8 (average, 2.0). Pericarp thickness ranged from 1.8 mm to 4.1 mm (average, 2.9 mm). Total soluble solid (TSS) varied from $6.2^{\circ}Brix$ to $13.5^{\circ}Brix$ with an average of $8.7^{\circ}Brix$. Fruit volume varied from 10.3 cc to 46.7 cc with an average of 24.4 cc. In minipaprika orange type, fruit weight ranged from 19.7 g to 42.4 g (average, 29.0 g) and fruit length/width varied from 1.5 to 2.6 (average, 2.0). Pericarp thickness varied from 2.1 mm to 4.1 mm with an average of 3.0 mm. TSS varied from $5.0^{\circ}Brix$ to $12.2^{\circ}Brix$ (average, $7.9^{\circ}Brix$) and average fruit volume was 24.6 cc ranging from 10.7 cc to 35.0 cc. The average fruit quality characters in $F_2$ population in both yellow and orange minipaprika did not differ from their $F_1$ hybrid parent and $F_2$ seed can be an additional way to supply high yielding hybrid cultivars at lower cost to the minipaprika growers.

  • We have studied about leaf-width distribution of Multileaf Collimator(MLC). We have analyzed 1169 treatment fields from 303 patients who have treated by radiation therapy. From this analysis, we can design an unevenly leaf-width distributed MLC, by placing the smaller leaf widths for more frequent blocking region and the larger for less. The average width of total leaves is 0.8 cm, but the effective block width is 0.5-0.6 cm for frequently blocking region(3-6 cm from the field center).

  • This paper analyzes the effect of reduced output width of the truncated logarithmic multiplication and application to inferences using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). For small hardware overhead, output width is reduced in the truncated Mitchell multiplier, so that fractional bits in multiplication output are minimized in error-resilient applications. This analysis shows that when reducing output width in the truncated Mitchell multiplier, even though worst-case relative error increases, average relative error can be kept small. When adopting 8 fractional bits in multiplication output in the evaluations, there is no significant performance degradation in target CNNs compared to existing exact and original Mitchell multipliers.

  • Crop minimization of the top and bottom ends of hot rolled plate, in a plate, in a plate mill, has been investigated. The existing model to determine the edging pattern at the finishing rolling pass was not reasonable to get high width accuracy and rolling yields. New models including width prediction have been formulated by using neural network model of back propagation learning algorithm and statistical analysis based on the actual production rolling data to give the optimal pattern for minimizing trimming loss. Using these models, at a given rolling condition of broadside pass and finishing pass and the permissible condition of width variation, it was possible to minimize crip at the top and bottom ends according to optimum procedure in plate mill. An application to improve the plan view pattern reduced width variation by 23% and crop length by 30% on average with an effective fishtail crop shape.
