  • This study was aimed at analyzing the location and the characteristics of the Urban hanok tissues that were formed in the downtown since 1920s. Focusing on the relationship between roads and lots, the developing process and the typological characteristics are examined. Through dividing the large and medium lots of the aristocratic families and on the hilly area near the Seoul City Wall, various shapes of urban hanok tissue were evolved. The urban hanok tissues developed before 1936 locate on the downtown sites, while those developed after 1936 locate on the hilly sites. The location of the tissues were identified in the upper area of Jong-no street. The former is composed of small size lots divided into average area $104.4m^2$ with the narrow alleys of about 2.0m width, while the latter is composed of medium size lots divided into average area $131.54m^2$ with the alleys of about 4.0m width. Moreover the structures of the tissues were evolved based on the developing period and the site condition. Moreover the structures of the tissues were evolved based on the developing period and the site condition. The typological characteristics were defined as the four patterns categorized with the bilateral concepts of alley's form and of alley's spacial feature.

  • The effect of impurities of andalusite on the morphology of the crystallization of mullite was investigated. The raw, concentrated and purified andalusite were fired at 145$0^{\circ}C$. and 150$0^{\circ}C$. Each of three grades of andalusite was examined in a scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer and etc. The raw andalusite showed deeply etched textures and prismatic crystals which are estimated to be an average of 2.5u in width and 15u in length. Concentrated andalusite showed poorly formed and elongated prismatic crystals. Purified andalusite showed condensed needle-like crystals which are estimated to be an average of 0.4$\mu$ in width and 2.0$\mu$ in length, but at the boundary of the original andalusite grain, prismatic crystals were seen. It is supposed that the purified andalusite is able to utilize as a raw material for high alumina refractories with refractoriness S.K. 38.

  • In this study, the seismic behavior of an all-steel buckling-restrained (AB) steel plate shear wall (SPSW) with incline slits under fire and cyclic loading was investigated. ABSPSW was composed of two thin steel infill plates with a narrow distance from each other, which were embedded with incline slits on each plate. These slits were in opposite directions to each other. The finite element (FE) numerical model was validated with three test specimens and after ensuring the modeling strategy, the parametric study was performed by considering variables such as wall plate thickness, slit width, strip width between two slits, and degree of temperature. A total of 256 FE numerical models were subjected to coupled temperature-displacement analysis. The results of the analysis showed that the high temperature reduced the seismic performance of the ABSPSW so that at 917℃, the load-bearing capacity was reduced by 92%. In addition, with the increase in the temperature, the yield point of the infill plate and frame occurred in a small displacement. The average decrease in shear strength at 458℃, 642℃, and 917℃ was 18%, 46%, and 92%, respectively, compared to the shear strength at 20℃. Also, with increasing the temperature to 917℃, ductility increased by an average of 75%

  • Purpose: Pincer nail is a relatively rare deformity characterized by an increase in transverse curvature along the longitudinal axis of the nail. This curvature commonly increases from proximal to distal end of nail, leading to pinching, curling, and distortion of the underlying soft tissue and resulting frequently in severe pain. Numerous surgical procedures have been reported. Preserving the width of the nail in the correction of the pincer nail is very important for functional and aesthetic reasons. We report the results of the correction of the pincer nail using autogenous dermofat graft with a good result. Methods: From May 2006 to September 2008, dermofat graft was performed in 6 patients with pincer nail. Patients were four women and two men, and the average age was 51. The affected digits were the unilateral great toes in four patients and the unilateral thumbs in two patients. Average follow-up period was 13 months. Surgical procedure was removal of nail using an elevator to avoid damage to the nail bed. An incision was created in distal portion of hyponychium. Paronychium was dissected from distal phalanx by periosteal elevator through incision of hyponychium and tunnel was made. Then dermofat grafts harvested from inguinal area were inserted into the tunnel. Finally, a silicone sheet was inserted eponychial fold for prevention of synechia. Objective assessment was evaluated by use of the width index and height index. Results: All patients reported resolution of the pain and soft tissue pinching sensation that they had before the operation. There was good adherence between the nail plate and the underlying nail bed. The nails have regrown and were corrected in a normal and flattened appearance. The width index and height index were improved. Conclusion: The autogenous dermofat graft seems to provide an effective treatment of the pincer nail with preservation of the nail matrix.

  • The mine of our present concern is situated at Shim-ri, Gusan-myon, Changwon-gun, Kyongsang-namdo, with lattitude $128^{\circ}35^{\prime}{\sim}36^{\prime}N$ and longitude $35^{\circ}03^{\prime}{\sim}04^{\prime}E$. This mine has not been noticed until the intermittent geological survey for the ore deposits were initiated from September, 1967 till 1970. The main mineralized zones, No.1 and No.2 zones, were studied by the diamond drilling of 9 holes down to the total depth of 1,140m, and found to have ore reserves of Cu 1.99% ore, estimated to reach around $358,000{\frac{M}{T}}$ (proved $117,000{\frac{M}{T}}$, indicated $241,000{\frac{M}{T}}$), which triggered the new exploitation of this mine. Geological composition of the district near the mine is mainly from the andesite belonging to the Silla Series of Kyongsang System and the distribution is broadly spread. Ore deposits are the hydrothermal one, filling the shear zone formed alongside the andesite main joint. There are two stripes of copper bearing mineralized zone which are about 40~70 meters apart and parallel to each other, in addition to which two others are expected. The strike of the main mineralized zone lies at $N15^{\circ}{\sim}20^{\circ}W$, the dip at $60^{\circ}{\sim}70^{\circ}NE$. The principal components of the ore mineral are chalcopyrite, bornite and as secondary, cuprite, tenorite, azurite and malachite. Pyrite, magnetite, specular hematite, very little of galena, sphalerite, quartz, epidote, zoisite, chlorite and calcite are found as gangue mineral. Confirmed by the drilling, the main mineralized zone, No.1 zone, has the length of 320m, average width of 1.62m, Ag 26g/t, Cu 1.84% and the average width of the ore zone except the narrow barren andesite horse interposed in the mineralized zone is 1.32m with Ag 32g/t and Cu 2.26%. The mineralized zone No.2 is 340m long, 1.00m wide with Ag 30g/t and Cu 2.15%. Neglecting the barren andesite horse the width is 0.73m with Ag 42g/t and Cu 2.94%.

  • The present pesticide application technology widely used with a power sprayer in Korea is assessed as the problem awaiting solution in the point of view of its ineffectiveness, inefficiency, and environmental contamination. As one approach to get rid of these problems, the boom spraying with ultra-low volume and precision application technology has been recommended. The study was undertaken to investigate plants damages incurred by the self-propelled boom-sprayer vehicle, to develop the design criteria of vehicle wheel, and to compare plant damages caused by the front wheel steering vehicle, the 4-wheel drive vehicle and the articulated vehicle, by the computer simulation. The experiment showed that the amount of damaged plants incurred by the self-propelled boom sprayer were about 0.29% in average in the field size of 100m$\times$50m(0.5ha), about 60~80% of which recovering while growing. The recommandable wheel size was analyzed to be 70~100cm in diameter, 8~15cm in width from the vehicle-plant-soil relationship. The simulation on damaged plants anticipated to be incurred by various steering vehicles showed that the smaller the turning radius, the lesser the damaged plants within its range of 3~5m. Average plant damage rate by the front wheel steering vehicle, the 4-wheel drive vehicle and articulated vehicle was relatively assessed to be 2 : 1.8 : 1.

  • The traffic volume of Seoul is extremely high in comparison to other major cities in Korea, and the result has been harmful physical and mental exposure to pollution by Seoulites on a regular basis. The street air pollution is more important than the others, because the air pollution generated by street traffic directly impacts the health of nearby pedestrians. This problem requires urgent attention and resolution. Among the factors creating the air pollution originating from the street, is the configuration of streets, which have emerged as the most significant because it is related to air and pollutant dispersion. Therefore, this study was conducted under the assumption that street form affects the air quality. Study sites were classified by street characteristics, and air quality was analyzed in each class. Then the OSPM (Operational Street Pollution Model) was employed to simulate the relationship between street configuration and air quality of streets within the old city center and new city center in Seoul. After that this study analyzed the correlation between air pollution and the spatial configuration of urban streets (ex. street width, building height, building density, etc.) to determine their contributions to air pollution. The outcome of this study is as follows : First, the result that was derived from the correlation analysis between street configuration and air quality hewed that the air pollution of the street is influenced by the average height of building, width of the roads as well as traffic volume. On the roadside, the concentration level of $NO_2$ is mainly affected by the average height of building and the deviation of building height along the street and CO is affected by street width. The outcome of this study can be used as a basis for more sound urban design policies, and the promotion of desirable street environments for pedestrians.

  • ECG consists of various types of electrical signal on the heart, and feature point of these signals can be detected by analyzing the arrhythmia. So far, feature points extraction method for the detection of arrhythmia done in the many studies. However, it is not suitable for portable device using real time operation due to complicated operation. In this paper, R-peak were extracted using R-R interval and QRS width informations on patients. First, noise of low frequency bands eliminated using butterworth filter, and the R-peak was extracted by R-R interval moving average and QRS width moving average. In order to verify, it was experimented to compare the R-peak of data in MIT-BIH arrhythmia database and the R-peak of suggested algorithm. As a results, it showed an excellent detection for feature point of R-peak, even during the process of operation could be efficient way to confirm.
