  • Total Maximum Daily Load(TMDL) is a core basin management system to assign total emissions of pollutants to unit basin and emission source within a limit of the target water quality and to secure sustainability. considering "Environment and development" together. By current technical guidance of TMDL, the water quality in the riverbed of which the target water quality is noticed, must achieve the target; and the water quality standard for evaluating achievement of the target should be prescribed as non-excessive probability quality of water on the basis of the pertinent water quality documents. Therefore, the study calculated the target water quality by each unit basin which the target water quality must be noticed through the analysis of probability for water quality documents in rivers at the time of establishing a plan, and the study evaluated the achievement possibility of the target water quality by analyzing and comparing the target water quality plan with the standard water quality to evaluate the achievement of the target water quality. As the result, applying the proposed method to Mihocheon River system, it is concluded that selected the target water quality (Each BOD 3.3mg/1 and BOD 3.0mg/1) in Miho A and Musim A is available. Of course, it showed that the target water quality: BOD 2.5mg/1 in Miho A and BOD 3.0mg/1 in Musim A, could be achieved if the small reduction in B unit area was implemented.

  • This study derived the unit of industrial water usage reflecting the latest industry trends. Available for establishing plans such as the master plan for water supply system and analyzed changes in the basic unit by a comparison with the current basic unit values. This study analyzed 4,038 samples with a sampling error of less than 1.5 % at the 95 % confidence level after removing outliers according to a log-normal distribution. As a result, the unit of industrial water usage per site area in the whole manufacturing industry was 7.11 m3/1,000m2/d. The ten industrial categories (C10, C13, C20, C21, C22, C25, C27, C30, C32, C33) showed a similar unit value compared to before, and the four industrials categories (C11, C17, C22, C31) showed a more unit value than before. With regard to the nine industrial categories (C14, C15, C16, C18, C19, C24, C26, C28, C29), the unit value decreased. Cases that companies examined before were the same as the companies examined in this study were analyzed. The result that the changes in the unit industrial water usage were reasonable was obtained. However, in some industrial categories (C17, C14, C24, C29), the unit value was changed by a small number of companies with large-scale water use or unit value of sampling had a large deviation. It was considered necessary to survey them periodically. The unit of industrial water usage derived by the survey in this study reflects the current industrial trends in 2016. Water use in manufacturing companies has continuously changed by the development of manufacturing technologies and simplification of manufacturing processes. In order to deal with this, it is considered necessary to survey the usage of industrial water periodically from a long-term perspective.

  • Catenella impudica (Mont.) J.Ag is an important species for human consumption from estuarine regions of Asia. Seasonal shedding of carpospores and tetraspores was quantified between January and December 2004 for natural populations of C. impudica. Vegetative and tetrasporophytic plants were available throughout the year but gametophytic plants were observed only from September to May. Tetraspore shedding was observed throughout the year and carpospores shedding was noticed only during the months when material was available. Hydrographical conditions of the estuary such as low water temperature and low salinity are correlated to the formation and release of carpospores and tetraspores in C.impudica

  • Wind velocity is one of the primary variables for describing atmospheric state from GMS-5. And its accurate depiction is essential for operational weather forecasting and for initialization of NWP(Numerical Weather Prediction) models. The aim of this research is to incorporate imagery from other available spectral channels and examine the error characteristics of winds derived from these images. Multi spectral imagery from GMS-5 was used for this purpose and applied to Korean region with together BoM(Bureau of Meteorology). The derivation of wind velocity estimates from low and high resolution visible, split window infrared, and water vapor images, resulted in improvements in the amount and quality of wind data available for forecasting.

  • This paper proposes a bit allocation algorithm using adaptive bandwidth for ADSL that uses the DMT technology. In certain cases for high attenuation loops the conventional algorithms are unable to assign data bits to the higher frequency tones, due to the power spectrum mask limitation recommended by ANSI Standard, even if the total power budget is not expended. In the proposed bit allocation algorithm, adjacent empty tones that would not be used merge into single tone, then additional bits is assigned to the merged empty tones. Because additional bits is allocated, most of the available power is used. The proposed algorithm show that total bit increase in about 2~9% bits more than about conventional "water-filling" and "bit removal" algorithms and that is able to use about 93% of the available budget Power

  • General formula are presented for the maximum power available from the tidal head in a closed basin and from the tidal currents in a channel connecting two large bodies of water. In the latter case, the available energy cannot be estimated from the kinetic energy flux in the undisturbed state, but can be obtained from knowledge of the tidal head between the ends of the channel and the maximum volume flux in the undisturbed state. The results are supported by detailed calculations for Johnstone Strait, British Columbia, using a two-dimensional finite element model. The model also allows an extension to the case of multiple channels. More work is needed to allow for partial tidal fences which do not occupy the whole cross-section of a channel.

  • Scour at bridge pier is a complicated three-dimensional problem involving interaction of fluld force on movable aid nonuniformily distributed sand grains. Although several analytical solution approaches, experimental research and field investigations for scout at piers have been conducted, no comprehensive and universally acceptable solution is so far available. Even though many methods and equations for predicting scour at piers are available in the literature, hydraulic and/or bridge design engineers are often at a loss over which method or equation is applicable for the specific bridge sites. To provide better understanding about scour phenomena and better predicting of scour at piers, intensive research is conducted through comprehensive review of published literature. Based on the research the state-of-the-art of pier scour prediction for design application is provided as a design guide for practicing engineers in this field. Recommendations for applying aggradation and degradation, contraction scour, and local scour prediction methods or equations are suggested. It is hoped that this paper may provide good information for the prediction of scour at piers.

  • The distribution of plant communities along the Bukhan Riverside in Chun-seong was studied by means of the methods fo Curtis and Pattern. The communities were arranged in a single-dimensioned ordination on the basis of the importance values of the persistent species. Leading dominant species, form the 'low' level to the 'high' levels of the ordination gradient, were Phalaris arundinacea, Salix gilgiana, Artemisia feddei, Zoysia japonica, Pennisetum japonicum, and Arundinella hirta. These species from a continuum from the river to the dry grassland depending upon available soil-moisture. Standing crops in terms of dry weight and the nitrogen content of the above-ground parts of these species showed a good relationship with gradients of available soil-moisture.

  • The applicability of the algebraic collapsing acceleration (ACA) technique to the method of characteristics (MOC) in cases with scattering anisotropy and/or linear sources was investigated. Previously, the ACA was proven successful in cases with isotropic scattering and uniform (step) sources. A presentation is first made of the MOC implementation, available in the DRAGON5 code. Two categories of schemes are available for integrating the propagation equations: (1) the first category is based on exact integration and leads to the classical step characteristics (SC) and linear discontinuous characteristics (LDC) schemes and (2) the second category leads to diamond differencing schemes of various orders in space. The acceleration of these MOC schemes using a combination of the generalized minimal residual [GMRES(m)] method preconditioned with the ACA technique was focused on. Numerical results are provided for a two-dimensional (2D) eight-symmetry pressurized water reactor (PWR) assembly mockup in the context of the DRAGON5 code.
