This paper proposes a method that can be used for the resistance estimation of a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation)-driven solenoid. By using estimated solenoid resistance, the PWM duty ratio was compensated to be proportional to the solenoid current. The proposed method was developed for use with EHB (Electro-Hydraulic Braking) systems, which are essential features of the regenerative braking system of many electric vehicles. Because the HU (Hydraulic Unit) of most EHB systems performs not only ABS/TCS/ESP (Electronic Stability Program) functions but also service braking function, the possible duration of continuous solenoid driving is so long that the generated heat can drastically change the level of solenoid resistance. The current model of the PWM-driven solenoid is further developed in this paper; from this a new resistance equation is derived. This resistance equation is solved by using an iterative method known as the FPT (fixed point theorem). Furthermore, by taking the average of the resistance estimates, it was possible to successfully eliminate the effect of measurement noise factors. Simulation results showed that the proposed method contained a sufficient pass-band in the frequency response. Experimental results also showed that adaptive solenoid driving which incorporates resistance estimations is able to maintain a linear relationship between the PWM duty ratio and the solenoid current in spite of a wide variety of ambient temperatures and continuous driving.
An integrated dynamic control (IDCF) with an active front steering system and an active rear braking system is proposed and developed in this study. A fuzzy logic controller is applied to calculate the desired additional steering angle and desired slip of the rear inner wheel. To validate IDCF system, an eight degree of freedom, nonlinear vehicle model and a sliding mode wheel slip controller are also designed. Various road conditions are used to test the performance. The results show that the yaw rate of IDCF vehicle followed the reference yaw rate and reduced the body slip angle, compared with uncontrolled vehicle. Thus, the IDCF vehicle had enhanced lateral stability and controllability.
In the brake systems a proportioning valve which reduces the brake pressure at each wheel cylinder for anti-locking of rear wheels is closely related with the safety of vehicles. But, it is impossible for a present proportioning valve to exactly control brake pressure because mechanically it is an open loop control system. So, in this paper we describe a electronic brake pressure distribution system using a fuzzy controller in order to exactly control brake pressure using a close loop control system. The object of electronic brake pressure distribution system is to change an cut-in pressure and an valve slop of proportioning valve in order to obtain better good performance of brake system than with mechanical system.
This paper presents the sliding mode control methods for anti-lock brake system (ABS) with the friction force observer. Using a simplified quarter car model, the sliding mode controller for ABS is designed to track the desired wheel slip ratio. Here, new method to find the desired wheel slip ratio which produces the maximum friction force between road and tire is suggested. The desired wheel slip ratio is varying according road and tire conditions to produce maximum friction force. In order to find optimum desired wheel slip ratio, the sliding mode observer for friction force is used. The proposed sliding mode controller with observer is evaluated in simulation, and the control design is shown to have high performance on roads with constant and varying adhesion coefficients.
According to the needs of change to hybrid, fuel cell and electric vehicle, and to the increasing demand for safety and eco-friendliness, the necessity of Electro-Mechanical Brake(EMB) is being increased. But, one of the most important problems for realizing EMB to the practical use is that the required motor power for braking is too high. So the high braking efficient EMB is required. In recent years, the Electronic Wedge Brake(EWB) is noticeable for the high braking efficiency. In this research, we examine the improvable matter of the recent published EWB, and we propose the improved mechanism and the cost effective control method using this mechanism. And we test these feasibility by experiment and discuss these meaning and effect.
Recently, the automotive industry has been developing rapidly. With the progress parts of the automobile components need high quality and the reliability. Among them, braking unit is essential device, and acquire the reliability through the performance test of brake. This study was aimed to design the performance-test-bench to measure the drag torque which has effect on caliper in braking unit. In this progressive technology, it is vital importance to use hydraulic and pneumatic, and to combine test bench with instrumentation engineering technology. This system to construct the design of hydraulic and pneumatic circuit, interface technique between sensors and personal computer, data acquisition and display design, and integrated control are very important technology. Moreover, reliable data are obtained through vacuum system and hydraulic and pneumatic system by using of booster and brake master cylinder which are actually applied to automobile. Then, data signal detector sensors for speed, pressure and torque is attached on this system. Therefore, in this study, we designed a performance-test-bench by and we also made an total control system using personal computer which is more progressive and flexible method than existing PLC control.
SCC (Smart Cruise Control) and AEBS (Autonomous Emergency Braking System) are using various types of sensors data, so it is important to consider about sensor data reliability. In this paper, data from radar and vision sensor is fused by applying a Bayesian sensor fusion technique to improve the reliability of sensors data. Then, it presents a sensor fusion verification tool developed to monitor acquired sensors data and to verify sensor fusion results, efficiently. A parallel computing method was applied to reduce verification time and a series of simulation results of this method are discussed in detail.
The paper describes the development of the ABS(Anti-Lock Bracke Sytem) real-time simulator which is composed of the real hydraulic modulator, the brake system, and the control software. This useful too supports the development enviornment of the ABS in great flexible mamer. It offers an efficient and cost-effective method of ABS development which includes the various realistic road conditons, the vehicle characteristics , and the brake characteristics. The performance of the ABS is compared with the normal braking results. Thepresented experimental results are braking on the high friction road, thetransient friction road(high to low , low to high), the split friction road, and the high friction road with steer angle. The paper shows the effectiveness and the safety of the ABS compared with the normal brake system , and the powerful and conventient tool in developing the ABS.
The brakes employed on commercial vehicles must be able to withstand three types of demanding services which are use-emergency stops from high speed, many repeated stops as in a delivery or bus route, and speed control in mountain descents. Two type of friction brakes are in use ; drum breaks and disc brakes. Drum brakes are of the internally expanding type in which two shoes fitted externally with friction material are forced outward against the inside of a rotating drum on the wheel unit. In this case, the Braking power is produced by the friction force between a drum and a lining, and is converted into heat. In this research an unsteady state heat transfer analysis for drum brake system of heavy truck has been performed by ABAQUS/standard code in the case of single-braking and the repeated braking condition. The temperature histories obtained by the finite Element analysis have been compared with the result calculated by the simplified formulation and the result obtained by the experiment of real vehicle conditions.
Domestic automobile companies have adopted drum type brake system for commercial vehicles. However recently those companies have been applying disc-brake system to solve vehicle control-instability and inefficient heat discharge performance of conventional drum brake system for a medium commercial vehicle. Because the kinetic energy of a running commercial vehicle is relatively high, the brake system should discharge lots of heat energy while braking. A ventilated type brake disc has been used to increase heat discharge performance of a brake system. The vent structure of a disc highly affects cooling efficiency. This paper compares thermal characteristics of three types of vent structure in JASO C421 braking condition. It is found that the slant bend type disc has the lowest temperature and thermal stress distributions in the braking condition.
