Control of smart actuators for networked steer-by-wire system (네트워크 기반 Steer-by-wire 시스템을 위한 지능형 엑츄에이터 제어)

  • This paper presents a control algorithm for smart actuators that can be used in a 'steer-by-wire' system for next-generation intelligent automobiles. 'Steer-by-wire' is a network-based mechatronic steering system in which mechanical linkages and hydraulics are replaced by electric motors and a digital communication network. The algorithm is designed not only to achieve the capabilities of following the desired steering angles while minimizing the discrepancy between two steering wheels, but also to tolerate an actuator with faults. The proposed algorithm is based on a simple proportional control so that it can be implemented in real-time with a low-cost embedded microcontroller. The effectiveness of the control algorithm is examined using a hardware-in-the-loop simulator consisting of two DC motors and a CAN bus network.

  • A self-travelling sprayer was developed to avoid the exposure of an operator to agricultural chemicals and exhaust gas, to improve safety and to increase working efficiency during the application and transport work in the greenhouses. This system consists of self-travelling system and the control system for application and safety device. The auto-spray car is equipped with a liquid chemical tank of 80l capacity. The travelling system adopted mechanical steering system which link mechanism of front wheel is guided by guide rollers. The sprayer travels along the guiding pipe which is set on the furrow in the greenhouses. The sprayer stops automatically applying and traveling when the liquid chemical tank becomes empty or when the sprayer reach the turning point. The spray booms swings in a vertical plane. The control system of safety devices controls the automatic stop of the sprayer when there is an obstacle on the traveling path, or when the battery becomes discharged. The auto-spray car traveled smoothly and steadily along the guide pipe during traveling straightly and turning on the ground.

  • This is concerned with the development and design of automatic maneuvering system using Differential Global Positioning System(DGPS). To achievement of autonomous maneuvering controller for giant ship, first, we investigated automatic maneuvering controller using DGPS in motor car. The sensors are configured with DGPS and digital compass. We calculated velocity and steering angle of motor car based on sensor signal. To design the controller, we derived the bicycle model and developed critically damped controller. The critically damped controller can be tracing previously appointed position in the fastest time. We are used a laptop computer to realize and the control algorithm is programmed by visual basic software. The obtained experimental results from developed system show unmanned motor car is good tracing planed positions. Hence, the system is looking forward to use the autonomous maneuvering control fur giant ship.

  • If we don't know the intention of altering course of a target ship when being in a head-on or a crossing situation, we may be confused about our decision making to change our course for collision avoidance and be in a danger of collision. In order to solve these problems, we need to develop an automatic detection system on altering course of a target ship for efficient collision avoidance. In this paper, we proposed an early detection system on altering course of a target ship using the steering wheel signal. This system will contribute to the reduction of collision accidents and also be used to the VTS system and the analysis of marine accidents.

Design of an RCGA-based Linear Active Disturbance Rejection Controller for Ship Heading Control

  • A ship's automatic steering system is the basis for addressing control difficulties related to course-changing and course-keeping during navigation through heading angle control, and is a link in realizing unmanned and autonomous ships. This study proposes a robust RCGA-based linear active disturbance rejection controller (LADRC) design method considering environmental disturbances, measurement noise, and model uncertainties in designing a ship heading controller for use when the ship is sailing. The LADRC consisted of a transient profile, a linear extended state observer, and a PD controller. The control gains in the LADRC with the linear extended state observer were adjusted by RCGAs to minimize the integral of the time-weighted absolute error (ITAE), which is an evaluation function of the control system. The proposed method was applied to ship heading control, and its effectiveness was validated by comparing the propulsive energy loss between the proposed method and a conventional linear PD controller. The simulation results showed that the proposed method had the advantages of lower propulsive energy loss, more robustness, and higher tracking precision than the conventional linear PD controller.

  • This paper suggests a method to design TSK(Takagi-Sugeno-Kang) fuzzy nonlinear control system for automatic steering system which contains the nonlinear component of ship's maneuvering equation. A TSk fuzzy model can be identified using input-output data and represent a nonlinear system very well. A TSK fuzzy controller can be designed systematically from a TSK fuzzy model because the consequent part of TSK fuzzy rule is a linear input-output equation having a constant term. Therefore, this paper suggests the method identifying the TSK fuzzy model and designing the TSK fuzzy controller based on the TSK fuzzy model for ship steering.

  • In urban area narrow commuter vehicles have attracted interest as a possible solution to reduce traffic congestion and parking problems. However, a narrow vehicle has an increased to overturn during hard cornering when compared to conventional vehicles. This tendency can be reduced by tilting it toward the inside of the turn. Two types of automatic tilting control systems which are Direct Tilt Control(DTC) and Steering Tilt Control(STC) have been developed. In this paper as one of the technique to improve the handling performance for the unusual vehicle the control system which blends both the DTC and the STC system is considered. It uses the merits of both the DTC and the STC system. As a control strategy for combination the switching control method is used. Finally, the fact that the unusual vehicle is safe under an emergency situation such as slippery road surface is proved by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, the automatic steering system for unmanned vehicle was developed. The vision system is used for the lane detection system. This paper defines two modes for detecting lanes on a road. First is searching mode and the other is recognition mode. We use inverse perspective transform and a linear approximation filter for accurate lane detections. The PD control theory is used for the design of the controller to compare with $H_{\infty}$ control theory. The $H_{\infty}$ control theory is used for the design of the controller to reduce the disturbance. The performance of the PD controller and $H_{\infty}$ controller is compared in simulations and tests. The PD controller is easy to tune in the test site. The $H_{\infty}$ controller is robust for the disturbances in the test results.

  • Recently, the system of the industry demands quick and accurate measurement for the mass production and high quality. Also, we need to improve the accuracy to decrease the failure rate in automatic assembly processing and improve the confidence, durability and the compatibility of parts. To answer this tendency and requirement, we have developed many accrate measuring instruments and methods. In this paper, we develop the whidows program using the DSP board(TMS320C25) which is used the data acquisition and the Visual C $^{++}$ , a windows programming language. We perform the measurement, analysis and output process in GUI(Graphic User Interface)environment. By using system, we will save the time required for the hand-worked measurement and avoid the useless iterative measurement. Furthermore, we expect to improve the productivity through automotive quality control in manufacturing process.s.
