Development of Die Bonder Machine for Semiconductor Automatic Assembly (반도체 소자용 자동 Die Bonder 기계장치의 개발)

  • In this paper, the design and implementation of a multiprocessor based Die Bonder Machine for the semiconductor will be described. This the partial research result, that is, the 1st year portion of the project to be performed for a period of two years from June, 1986 to May, 1988. The mechanical system consists of the following three subsystems : (i) transfer head unit, (ii) die feeding XY-table unit, and (iii) plunge up unit. The overall control system is designed to be essentially a master-slave type in which each slave is functionally fixed in view of software and also the time shared common bus structure with hardwired bus arbitration scheme is utilized, the control system consists of the following three subsystems each of which employs a 16 bits microprocessor MC 68000 : (i) die bonder processor controller, (ii) visual recognition/inspection and display system, (iii) the servo control system. It is reported that the proposed control system were applied to Working Sample and tested in real system, and the results are successful as a working sample phase.

A Study on Development of Inductive Sensor System for Locating Geared Part and Gear Position in Geared Shaft (기어 축의 기어 및 이 끝 위치 판별을 위한 유도형 센서시스템의 개발에 관한 연구)

  • An inductive sensor system is proposed to detect the gear location and angular position of a geared shaft for automatic feeding of the shaft into the proper cutting position of the other end. The system consists of two set of coils, bridge circuit, signal condition circuit, and microprocessor. The coil sensors of the system measure changes of inductance along with the surface position of a geared shaft. The inductance changes are transformed to voltages by the bridge circuit, which are then conditioned and processed for the recognition of the gear. In order to incorporate with the experimental results with the sensor system, a finite element method (FEM) simulation for the magnetic field between the sensor and the shaft was carried out. The predicted results and the experiments revealed that the sensor system was appropriate for sensing the position of gear and the angular position of gear tooth of a geared shaft.

Introduction of KIER Pyrolysis Process and 3,000 ton/yr Demonstration Plant (KIER의 열분해유화 공정 기술과 실증플랜트 소개)

  • Since late of 2000, KIER has developed a novel pyrolysis process for production of fuel oils from polymer wastes. It could have been possible due to large-scale funding of the Resource Recycling R&D Center. The target was to develop an uncatalyzed, continuous and automatic process producing oils that can be used as a fuel for small-scale industrial boilers. The process development has proceeded in three stages bench-scale unit, pilot plant and demonstration plant. As a result, the demonstration plant having capacity of 3,000 tons/year has been constructed and is currently under test operation for optimization of operation conditions. The process consisted of four parts ; feeding system, cracking reactor, refining system and others. Raw materials were pretreated via shredding and classifying to remove minerals, water, etc. There were 3 kind of products, oils(80%), gas(15%), carbonic residue(5%). The main products i.e. oils were gasoline and diesel. The calorific value of gas has been found to be about 18,000kcal/$m^3$ which is similar to petroleum gas and shows that it could be used as a process fuel. Key technologies adopted in the process are 1) Recirculation of feed for rapid melting and enhancement of fluidity for automatic control of system, 2) Tubular reactor specially-designed for heavy heat flux and prevention of coking, 3)Recirculation of heavy fraction for prevention of wax formation, and 4) continuous removal & re-reaction of sludge for high yield of main product (oil) and minimization of residue. The advantages of the process are full automation, continuous operation, no requirement of catalyst, minimization of coking and sludge problems, maximizing the product(fuel oil) yield and purity, low initial investment and operation costs and environment- friendly process. In this presentation, background of pyrolysis technology development, the details of KIER pyrolysis process flow, key technologies and the performances of the process will be discussed in detail.

The Welding Process Control Using Neural Network Algorithm (Neural Network 알고리즘을 이용한 용접공정제어)

  • A CCD camera with a laser stripe was applied to realize the automatic weld seam tracking in GMAW. It takes relatively long time to process image on-line control using the basic Hough transformation, but it has a tendency of robustness over the noises such as spatter and arc tight. For this reason, it was complemented with adaptive Hough transformation to have an on-line processing ability for scanning specific weld points. The adaptive Hough transformation was used to extract laser stripes and to obtain specific weld points. The 3-dimensional information obtained from the vision system made it possible to generate the weld torch path and to obtain the information such as width and depth of weld line. In this study, a neural network based on the generalized delta rule algorithm was adapted for the process control of GMA, such as welding speed, arc voltage and wire feeding speed.

  • An automatic echelon feeder of brown rice was presented for quality inspection system using color image processing. A echelon feeder was developed with vibratory feeder and cylindrical indent singulator having oblique light. The vibratory feeder consisted of a hopper, electromagnetic vibrator and multichannel grooves and supply the grain sample to the singulator. The feeding performance such as feed rate, blocking frequency of the channel was dependent on the size of groove and vibration pattern. A cylindrical indent singulator consisted of a rotating cylinder, prisms and a tungsten-halogen light source. It delivered grain kernels under the camera in a echelon form and illuminate the kernels with oblique ray and ambient light. The size of the indents installed on the surface of the rotating cylinder was determined by the dimensions of the paddy and a small triangular prism was placed in each indent to apply $ 20^{\circ}$ oblique light to the grain kernel.

  • The goal of this research is to develop a Heel/Side Laster and control GUI(Graphic User Interface) for adaptive manufacturing. For this purpose, we have analyzed the working sequences of heel/side laster, and developed a control program that will facilitate the machineries with functions that are suitable for adaptive manufacturing. We also made it possible to modify the gluing path with simple manipulation of CAD data. By providing a user-friendly GUI, we made it possible for unskilled workers use the system without difficulty. In addition, we have developed a flexible environment where the already available CAD data can be modified and saved with ease. Automatic feeding and path control algorithms for thermoplastic cement were also implemented. By using the Heel/Side Laster for adaptive manufacturing, we are able to achieve increased productivity and work efficiency while improving the quality of the product with self-diagnosis and fine adjustment function.

On-line Measurement of Buffer Capacity of a Fermentation medium and Estimation of Organic Aicd Production (발효배지의 완충용량의 온라인 측정 및 유기산 생산 추정)

  • A fermentation system was supplemented with a device for the measurement of the durations of alkali pump feeding for automatic pH control and an A/D convertor for precise monitoring of pH value by computer. A software program was developed to measure buffer capacities from the pH signal and the pH control signal during fermentation. By measuring the buffer capacity on-line, levels of acetic acid were estimated by a software sensor using pH signal in a fermentation process of E.coli growing in a minimal medium. The measured values of acetic acid showed correlation to those of estimated by the software sensor. Lacitic acid production was also successfully estimated by the values of buffer capacities measured on-line.

A Study on the Natural Evaporation Capacity of LPG Container (액화석유가스 용기의 자연 증발량에 관한 연구)

  • The number of gas containers and the period of exchanging gas containers are vsy important in designing liquefied petroleum gas(LPG) supply system for small capacity domain. And also the evaluation of remaining LPG in containers to be exchanged is very useful information in commerce. However seldon has been studied on calculating method about those with respect to gas consumption pattern. In this study, a simulation method was developed to estimate the evaporation capacity of LPG container, the mass gas flow rate from LPG container, the temperature and vapor pressure of LPG, and the remained LPG at containers to be exchange by using LPG property equations, mass balance equation, and heat balance equation. The simulation results were correlated well with experimental data. The overall heat transfer coefficient from air to LPG is approximately $9{\~}13 kcal/m^2{\cdot}hr{\cdot}^{\circ}C$ and does not strongly affect on the evaporation capacity of LPG container. The mass gas flow rate from LPG container is constant when the vapor pressure of LPG is within pressure regulator's control range. While, out of range, it suddenly reduce to a evaporation rate which is balanced with heat transfer from air. The evaporation capacity of LPG container increased with surrounding temperature and the composition of propane, and decreased drastically with continuous gas consumption. The number of gas containers divided the number of houses using gas supply system was reduced by using automatic gas feeding device.

Development of an automatic system for cultivating the bioluminescent heterotrophic dinoflagellate Noctiluca scintillans on a 100-liter scale

  • Noctiluca scintillans is a heterotrophic dinoflagellate that causes red-colored oceans during the day (red tides) and glowing oceans at night (bioluminescence). This species feeds on diverse prey, including phytoplankton, heterotrophic protists, and eggs of metazoans. Thus, many scientists have conducted studies on the ecophysiology of this species. It is easy to cultivate N. scintillans at a scale of <1 L, but it is difficult to cultivate them at a scale of >100 L because N. scintillans cells usually stay near the surface, while prey cells stay below the surface in large water tanks. To obtain mass-cultured N. scintillans cells, we developed an automatic system for cultivating N. scintillans on a scale of 100 L. The system consisted of four tanks containing fresh nutrients, the chlorophyte Dunaliella salina as prey, N. scintillans for growth, and N. scintillans for storage, respectively. The light intensities supporting the high growth rates of D. salina and N. scintillans were 300 and 20 µmol photons m-2 s-1, respectively. Twenty liters of D. salina culture from the prey culture tank were transferred to the predator culture tank, and subsequently 20 L of nutrients from the nutrient tank were transferred to the prey culture tank every 2 d. When the volume of N. scintillans in the predator culture tank reached 90 L 6 d later, 70 L of the culture were transferred to the predator storage tank. To prevent N. scintillans cells from being separated from D. salina cells in the predator culture tank, the culture was mixed using an air pump, a sparger, and a stirrer. The highest abundance of N. scintillans in the predator culture tank was 45 cells mL-1, which was more than twice the highest abundance when this dinoflagellate was cultivated manually. This automatic system supplies 100 L of N. scintillans pure culture with a high density every 10 d for diverse experiments on N. scintillans.

A Study on the Demand for Equipent Development in Nursing (간호기기 개발수요 조사연구)

  • The objectives of thes study were to identify the need for equipment development in nursing, and to determine the priorities for that development. The study was descriptive study done between March 2 and May 30, 1995, in which the subjects, including 421 patients, 223 family members, and 198 nurses from neurosurgery, orthopedic, rehabilitation medicine, internal medicine and intensive care units of nine general hospitals in Seoul, completed a questionnarie developed by the research team. The questionnaire consisted of 35 open and closed questions. Data was analyzed using frequencies and percentages. The results ware summarized as follows: 1) The average age of the nurses was 27.9 years, 48% of the patients were between 20 and 40 years of age, and 17% were over 60. The average lingth of experience for the nurse subjects was four years five months with 36.9%. having over five years experience. The most frequent diagnoses of patients were spinal disc(35.9%), internal medicine disease(26.0%), cerebral vascular accident(16.6%) and spinal cord injury(10%) 2) Many of the nurses(96.4%) reported deficiencies with existing equipment and 96.5% of the nurses, but only 79.8% of the patients, nurses' time. Further, 82.3% of the nurses and 75.8% of the patients felt that the development of new equipment would lead to a decrease in the cost of nursing care. 3) Nurses felt that the greatest areas of inconvenience were patient feeding(71.7%), hygiene(71.2%), caring for a patient confined to bed(70.7%), patient clothing(67.2%), mobility transfers(63.5%) and urinary elimination(52.0%). However, patients and family members listed the following as being the most inconvenient: urinary elimination(58.7%), Hygiene(50.5), feeding(48.4%), mobility transfers(47.1%) and bed care(45.2%). 4) Generally the nurses listed more inconveniences and patients and family members listed more demands for the development of equipment. These included utensils with large handles, and regulators for tube feedings; mattresses that provide for automatic position change and massage, which have patient controlled levers and a place for bed pan insertion; automatic lifts or transfer from bed to wheelchair; equipment to facilitate washing and oral hygiene as well as equipment that will allow patients with spinal cord injuries easy access to showers; a bed pan/urinal for women that is comfortable and effective from which urine can be measured and disposed of easily; disposable dressing sets and tracheostomy care sets and a convenient way of measuring changes in wound size; a safe delivery system for oxygen, a variety of mask sizes and better control of humidity, tracheal material than at present, as well as a communication system for patients with tracheostomies; clothing that will allow access to various parts of the body for treament or assessment without patients having to remove all of their clothing; and finally a system that will allow the patient to control lighting, telephones and pagers. Priority areas for equipment development reported by the nurses were, urinary elimination(58. 7%), hygiene(50.5%), feeding(48.4%), mobility transfers(47..1%), bowel elimination(40.8%). Those reported by the patients family members were feeding(71.7%), hygiene(70.0%), bedcare(70.7%), clothing(67.2%), mobility transfers(63.6%), urinary elimination(52.9%) and bowel elimination(50.5%) Altogether, nurses, patients and family members listed the following as priorities; clothing (178), bed care(144), urinary elimination(92), environment(81), hygiene(70). Further, a health professional forum listed urinary elimination, oxygen delivery, medication delivery, mobility transfers, bed care and hygiene in that order as priority areas. From this study it can be concluded that the first need is to develop equipment that will address the problems of urinary elimination.
