Implementation and assessment of advanced failure criteria for composite layered structures in FEMAP

  • AMOSC (Automatic Margin Of Safety Calculation) is a SW tool which has been developed to calculate the failure index of layered composite structures by referring to the cutting edge state-of-the-art LaRC05 criterion. The stress field is calculated by a finite element code. AMOSC allows the user to calculate the failure index also by referring to the classical Hoffman criterion (which is commonly applied in the aerospace industry). When developing the code, particular care was devoted to the computational efficiency of the code and to the automatic reporting capability. The tool implemented is an API which has been embedded into Femap Siemens SW custom tools. Then, a user friendly graphical interface has been associated to the API. A number of study-cases have been solved to validate the code and they are illustrated through this work. Moreover, for the same structure, the differences in results produced by passing from Hoffman to LaRC05 criterion have been identified and discussed. A number of additional comparisons have thus been produced between the results obtained by applying the above two criteria. Possible future developments could explore the sensitivity of the failure indexes to a more accurate stress field inputs (e.g. by employing finite elements formulated on the basis of higher order/hierarchical kinematic theories).

과채류 접목시스템 개선 연구 (A Study on Performance Improvement of Fruit Vegetables Automatic Grafting System)

  • 접수 및 대목 줄기의 회전 절단으로 인한 접목 불량 발생 가능성에 대한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 수학적 분석 및 고속카메라를 이용하여 실측한 결과 칼날 회전반경 50mm이고 줄기직경이 5mm 일 때, 깊이는 0.11mm인 것으로 계산되어 줄기부 곡면 절단에 따른 문제는 없을 것으로 사료된다. 또한 접목시스템에서 모종 줄기를 잡는 그립퍼의 최적 형상 설계를 위하여 실시한 모종 줄기 압축시험 결과 대목의 경우 0.8mm 이상, 접수의 경우 0.6mm 이상의 범위에서 줄기부를 압축 할 경우 이전 형상으로 완전히 복원되지 않는 것으로 조사되어 그립퍼 형상 설계 시 그럼퍼 간격 결정에서 고려해야 할 것으로 사료된다. 또한 접목시기인 토마토 모종의 경우 줄기의 휨이 평균 10도 전후 인 것으로 조사되어 접목불량이 발생할 가능성이 있으므로 이를 개선하기 위한 추가 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다. 최적핑거 형상 시험에서는 모서리핑거 형상이 핑거간 거리 조정을 통해 정확한 중앙점을 잡을 수 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 핑거간 거리는 접수와 대목에 대해 각각 2.5mm와 3.0mm로 설정하고 신축성 있는 재질을 이용하여 1mm 두께로 코팅을 하면 대부분의 모종 줄기를 상처없이 파지 할 수 있을 것으로 조사되었다.

양식 생김의 양륙 작업 개선에 관한 연구 (A study on the improvement of loading and unloading work in laver aquaculture industry)

  • In this study, an automatic system for improving the working environment and increasing production efficiency of a laver aquaculture industry in Korea was developed by combining a hydraulic control system and a load cell in a current landing work of the laver. The improved gathering laver system allowed the automatic gathering process of the laver in the sea with the hydraulic control system connected to a cutting machine of the laver on the operating ship, which has been used for gathering the laver semi-automatically in a form of the traditional farming method. The transporting process of the laver from an operating ship to the land was improved as follows. A frame installed on the operating ship and the bag nets were designed and made to hold about 1,000 kg of the laver inside. The bag nets contain the laver on the improved operating ship were tied in knots and hooked on a crane using a load cell. The weight is measured immediately by lifting the bag nets through the load cell system. Weight information is communicated to the fishermen and successful bidders through the application. The advantages of the improved system can help fishermen to fish by improving their working environment and increasing production efficiency. The field survey to improve the landing operation of the laver aquaculture was conducted in Gangjin, Goheung, Shinan, Wando, Jindo, and Haenam in South Jeonnam Province. A total of 10 sites including Gunsan in Jeonbuk Province, Daebu Island in Ansan City, Jebu Island in Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province, and Seocheon in Chungnam Province were searched to collect data. Prototypes of the system were tested at the auction house of laver located in Goheung, where laver collection using hydraulic control and landing using road cell could be improved.

  • 선진국인 일본과 미국, 유럽 등에서는 철도운영기관에서 경영합리화 방안으로 철도차량 검수인원 최소화를 위한 판타그라프 습판마모 및 차륜마모 상태 자동측정 시스템(예를 들면, CCD 카메라에 의한 자동 측정 등)을 '80년대 후반부터 도입하고 있는 실정이다. 국내에서는 '90년대 후반부터 도시철도 운영기관에서 경영합리화 방안의 일환으로 판타그라프 습판 및 차륜 마모 자동측정 시스템 적용에 대해 관심을 갖기 시작하였다. 이후 2002년도부터 한국철도공사의 신설 차량기지에 설치하기 시작하였다. 기 적용된 외국 및 국내의 CCD 카메라에 의한 판타그라프 습판마모상태 자동측정 시스템을 분석하여 IT 강국으로써의 새로운 첨단기술 방식을 적용한 CCD 카메라에 의한 판타그라프 습판마모 측정방법 및 관리방안이나 국내실정에 맞지 않는 검사관리 항목 등을 개선 적용한 사례(국내 운영기관)들을 연구, 국내 도시철도 운영기관에 적용토록 함으로써 경영합리화 실현 및 국내의 IT 선진기술을 해외철도 운영기관에 적용할 수 있는 단초를 제공하고자 한다.

쉘 구조물에서 육면체 요소망의 자동 생성 (Automatic Generation of Hexahedral Meshes in Shell Structures)

  • This paper describes hexahedral mesh generation for various shell structures, such as automobile bodies, plastic injection mold components and sheet metal parts by using chordal surfaces. After generaling one-layered tetrahedral mesh by an advancing front algorithm, the chordal surfaces are constructed by cutting of tetrahedral elements. Since the choral surfaces are composed of tri/quad elements with poor quality, they are transformed into quadrilateral elements with good quality. Hexahedral elements are then generated by offsetting these quadrilateral elements. The boundary nodes of hexahedral elements are generated on the outer surfaces of the original shell structures. Sample models including nonuniform thickness have been tested to validate the proposed algorithm.

  • Burr is an unavoidable and undesirable by-product of most metal cutting or shearing operations. This burr must be removed to improve the fit of machined parts and safety of workers, to improve the effectiveness of finishing operations. Despite the full or partial automation of FMC or FMS, deburring operations to obtain workpiece with fine surface quality are difficult to be automated since the occurrence and condition of burr are not constant. This study focused on developing a software for deburring automation, which includes automatic recognition of parts, generation of deburring tool path and NC code, by analyzing the IGES format file which contains information of part geometry. The successful performance of developed software was demonstrated by computer simulation and deburring experiment using miniature end brush. And, this research can provide a basis for further advanced studies for automated deburring applications.

  • Burr is a projected part of finished workpiece. It is unavoidable and undesirable by-product of most metal cutting or shearing process. Also, it must be removed to improve the fit of machined parts, safety of workers, and the effectiveness of finishing operation. But deburring process is one of manufacturing processes that have net been successfully automated, so deburring automation is strongly needed. This paper focused on developing a basic algorithm to find edge of workpiece and match two different image data for deburring automation which includes automatic recognition of parts, generation of deburring tool paths and edge/corner finding ability by analyzing the DXF drawing file which contains information of part geometry. As an algorithm for corner finding, SUSAN method was chosen. It makes good performance in finding edge and corner in suitable time. And this paper suggested a simple algorithm to find matching point between CCD image and drawing file.

  • Chip control is a major problem in automatic machining process, especially in finish operation. Chip breaker is one of the important factors to be determined for the scheme of chip control. As unbroken chips are grown, there deteriorate quality of the surface roughness and process automation can be carried out. In this study, to get rid of chip curling problem while turning internal hole, optimal chip breaker is selected form the experiment. The experiment is planned with Taguchi's method that is based on the orthogonal arrary of design factor. From the respose table, cutting speed, feedrate, depth of cut, and tool geometry are major factors affecting chip formation. Then, optmal chip breaker is selected and this is verified good enough for chip control from the experiment.

  • Increased complexity of products and their manufacturing processing demans higher quality control and monitoring than ever before. Therefore, flexible automatization or flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) offer numerous advantages over alternative manufacturing methods. In this state, a in-process monitoring is one of the important flexible automation system. And as use of NC and CNC machine tool has been increasing, cutting work has automating and it is necessary to develop the automatic production system combined a couple of machine tool. Thus, in this paper to search examination it can measure the tool wear and the tool life and can be more practical research subject.
