  • Polishing a die that has free-form surfaces is a time-consuming and tedious job, and requires a considerable amount of high-precision skill. Some workers tend to gradually avoid the polishing work because of the poor working conditions caused by dust and noise. In the our previous study, an automatic polishing system was developed to reduce the polishing time and cope with the shortage of skilled workers. And, to operate the polishing robot system from remote sites, communication network was constructed and monitoring programs (a server program and a client program)) were developed.   • The magnetic assisted finishing thought to be one of the potential methods for the automatic polishing process. In this study, magnetic assisted finishing process was experimentally attempted to polish the intrnal surface of the cylindrical tube. The newly developed magnetic tool was used, and its polishing performance exmined. From the experimental results, it is found that i ) the newly developed tool is suitable for intrnal surface finishing of the tube. ii ) the surface roughness of 0.9~1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$Rmax before polishing is improved to the value of 0.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$Rmax in the finishing experiment of stainless steel STS3602L tube in 6 minutes finishing time.

요동형 공구와 AE센서를 이용한 연마면 향상에 관한 연구 (A study on the improvement of polishing surface using Oscillation-type tool and AE sensor)

  • Die polishing technology is very critical to determine quality and performance of the final products. Generally, the rotation-type tool is used most widely in the polishing process. However it is difficult to make the mirror surface, because the method using the rotation-type tool causes a lot of tiny scratch on the polished surface. This paper proposes a new method using the oscillation-type tool that reduces the scratch and improves the surface roughness. As result. the mirror surface was able to obtain by using the oscillation-type tool. AE is known to be closely related to material removal rate(MRR). As the surface is rougher, MRR gets larger and AE increase. The surface roughness can be indirectly estimated using the AE signal measured during automatic die polishing process. In this study. an AE sensor based monitoring system was developed to investigate the relation the level of AE RMS with the surface roughness during polishing process.

  • An effective die-polishing robot system is developed. ATC (Automatic Tool Change), tool posture angle control, and robot program for polishing application are developed and integrated into a robotic system that consists of a robot, pneumatic grinding tool, and grinding abrasives (papers and special films). ATC is specifically designed to exchange whole grinding tool set for complete unmanned operation. A tool posture angle control system is developed for the tools to maintain a specified skew angle rather than right angle on the surface for best finishing results. A PC and the robot controller control ATC and tool posture angle. Also, there have been more considerations on enhancing the performance of the system. Elastic material is inserted between the grinding pad and the holder for better grinding contact. Robot path data are generated automatically from the NC data of previous machining process.

  • 반도체와 관련한 실리콘웨이퍼의 평탄도는 양질의 웨이퍼를 보증하는 가장 중요한 요소이다. 따라서 평탄도(flatness)를 측정하고 제어하는 Polishing이라는 공정은 웨이퍼 생산의 여러 라인중 특별히 중요시 되는 과정이며 현재 이 공정에서는 담당 엔지니어가 웨이퍼의 모형을 모니터에서 육안으로 관찰하여 판단하고 평탄도를 높이기 위한 제어를 하고 있다. 그러나 사람에 의한 것이므로 많은 경험이 필요하고 일일이 체크해야하는 번거로움이 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 비효율적인 작업의 효율화를 위해 이루어 졌으며 Polishing 공정에 있어 평탄도를 사람이 아닌 시스템에 의해 자동으로 측정하여 제어하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 여기서 제안한 시스템은 보간 다항식을 이용하여 웨이퍼 전역의 두께를 추정하고 Polishing공정에서 평탄도를 높이기 위해 제어 가능한 모형별로 분류할 수 있도록 하였다.

  • There are many difficulties in automatic polishing for die & mold surfaces. Even though the process has been studied in the past 15 years, it has not been achieved yet, but by the process of actual hand work of well-skilled workers. A new magentic assisted polishing process, which is one of the potential method for automation of surface finishing has been studied in the past 10 years by colleagues. The process has many merits, but on the other hand also has demerits, one being low efficiency of gridability by comparision with grinding wheel polish. Therefore, some attempts were tried to improve the grindability by adopting electropolishing, ultra-high speed milling, 5-axis controlled machine etc... most recently by collegues. This study also aims to improve the efficiency of polishing by introducing the easily-polished shape surface milling method equalizing the tool feed per tooth to the pick feed. This milling method was experimentally confirmed to have sufficient grindability to polish milled surface (with 10 .mu. mRmax surface roughness) into mirror surface (with 0.4 .mu. mRmax surface roughness).

  • 비자성체의 자유곡면 자기연마 공정에서 자기력 세기의 향상은 매우 중요하다. 비자성체 자유곡면의 표면에 발생하는 자기력의 세기에 따라 자기연마 입자가 가지는 수직 절삭력이 변화하기 때문이다. 이러한 자기력 향상을 위하여 전자석 배열 테이블이 적용된 제 2세대 자기연마공정이 비자성체의 자유곡면 자기연마에 적용된다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 제 2세대 자기연마공정에서 전자석 배열 테이블에 발생하는 자기력 세기 향상을 위한 극성배열 방법을 제시하고 이를 알루미늄합금의 곡률 자기연마에 적용하였다. 그 결과 볼록 및 오목 형상에서 각각 S-N-S와 S-N-N-N-S 극성 배열에서 가장 높은 표면거칠기의 향상을 확인하였다. 또한 상승 가공경로에서 상대적으로 높은 표면거칠기 향상을 나타내었다.

  • The necessity of six axis force-torque sensors is well recognized in the fields of automatic fine assembly, deburring polishing, and automatic fish processing using robotic manipulators. The paper proposes a simple and compact elastic structure of the force-torque sensor which senses externally applied three force and three torque components. Rough surface strain distribution of the elastic structure is examined analytically, and then more accurate surface strain are obtained from finite element analysis. The compliance matrix which is a linear relationship between force components and strain measurements is obtained for the proposed sensor. Some basic principles of measuring 3 force and torque components are also presented.
