A study on the Automatic Detection of the Welding Dimension Defect of Steel Construct using Digital Image Processing (디지털 화상처리에 의한 강.구조물의 용접부 치수 결함 검출의 자동화에 관한 연구)

  • The inspection unit which is developed and used in this study, is processed the shape data from the CCD camera to seek welding bite section shape, and then calculated as a real dimension from measuring the value of each inspection item. The reason of measuring with the real in this study is came out from the image method which used for a long time, which is extricated the characteristic as the dimension of pixel by recognize pixel. The measurement method of the section shape is that we decide the thresholding value after we drew the histogram to binarizate the object. After that, we make flat the object to get rid of the noise and measure the shape of welded part through the boundarization of the object. The shape measurement is that measure the value of the welding part to adapt the actual operation program from using the ratio between the actual dimension of the standard specimen and the dimension of image, to measure the ratio between the actual product and the camera image. The inspection algorithm which estimates the quality of welded product is developed and also, the software GUI(Graphic User Interface) which processes the automatic test function of the inspection system is developed. We make the foundation of the inspection automatic system and we will help to apply other welding machine.

  • The vision system is easy to use the exclusive use as a independent computer system but it is not much popularization by reason of expensive and difficult to adapt to the various fields, because it is easy to the existed computer system, the price is cheap and also it can use to the various measurement purpose which user wanted and programed. The measurement method of the vehicle axle casing nut welding part is that measure the value of the welding part to adapt the actual operation program from using the ratio between the actual length of the standard specimen and the length of image, to measure the ratio between the actual product and the camera image. A defect is found by the assembled visual inspection system. The inspection algorithm which estimates the quality of welded product is developed and also, the software program which processes the automatic test function of the inspection system. We make the foundation of the inspection automatic system and we will help to apply other welding machine.

  • We have developed a automatic surface inspection system for cold Rolled strips in steel making process for several years. We have experienced the various kinds of surface inspection systems, including linear CCD camera type and the laser type inspection system which was installed in cold rolled strips production lines. But, we did not satisfied with these inspection systems owing to insufficient detection and classification rate, real time processing performance and limited line speed of real production lines. In order to increase detection and computing power, we have used the Dark Field illumination with Infra_Red LED, Bright Field illumination with Xenon Lamp, Parallel Computing Processor with Area typed CCD camera and full software based image processing technique for the ease up_grading and maintenance. In this paper, we introduced the automatic inspection system and real time image processing technique using the Object Detection, Defect Detection, Classification algorithms. As a result of experiment, under the situation of the high speed processed line(max 1000 meter per minute) defect detection is above 90% for all occurred defects in real line, defect name classification rate is about 80% for most frequently occurred 8 defect, and defect grade classification rate is 84% for name classified defect.

  • This paper proposes a bridge inspection system using a robot to manage the safety status of bridges. A conventional bridge inspection has a lot of problems because inspection is conducted manually by human. As an alternative, we are to develop a robot system having machine vision and this robot system is mounted on an end linkage of specially designed car having seven DOF (Degrees Of Freedom) to inspect cracks beneath bridge. This system is able to check a status of the bridge and record its changes every other year. As a result, the developed robot system offers us the inspection result of quality and reliability about the bridge inspection status. Also, we have tested the effectiveness of the suggested system through outdoor experiments.

  • Automatic Vision Inspection(AVI) systems automatically detect defect features and measure their sizes via camera vision. It is important to predict the performance of an AVI to meet customer's specification in advance. In this paper, we propose a statistical method for prediction of false alarm rate regarding inconsistency of defect size measuremet process. We only need are a simple experimental trial for repeated defect size measurement test. The statistical features from the experiement are utilized in the prediction process. Therefore, the proposed method is swift and easy to implement and use. The experiment shows a close prediction compared to manual inspection results.

  • We Propose a Path planning method to reduce the Inspection time of AOI (automatic optical inspection) machines in SMT (surface mount technology) in-line system. Inspection windows of board should be clustered to consider the FOV (field-of-view) of camera. The number of clusters is desirable to be minimized in order to reduce the overall inspection time. We newly propose a genetic algorithm to minimize the number of clusters for a given board. Comparative simulation results are presented to verify the usefulness of proposed algorithm.

  • ATPS(Automatic Transmission Position Sensor) is the position sensor of an automatic transmission which transforms the gear changes into the electrical signals and transmits them to TCU. This paper deals with an development of the sensor output signal analysis system for ATPS inspection using LabVIEW. The developed system is designed to carry easily, and it can be installed for inspection directly in a car fitted with an automatic transmission. The system can not only detect the output signals of the sensor but also inspect the sensor behavior under the running state of a car. For this, the system is designed to control the position and the speed of motor. Also, it has the database system for the systematic output data management and the convenient GUI for user.

  • In this paper, an improved method is developed for automatic inspection system using simbology patterns. The developed method uses the two previously developed matching methods the template maching method and the feature matching method. The template matching method is very sensitive to variations of target images such as translation and rotation of objects. On the other hand, the feature matching method doesn't extract proper features in some types of symbology patterns. The proposed method shows the improvement of precision in recognition of defects and flexibility of different types of symbology patterns.

  • A system design technique of automatic thickness measurement and defect inspection system, which measures the thickness of the ALC(Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete) block and inspects the defect on a realtime basis is proposed. The image processing system was established with a CCD camera, an image grabber, and a personal computer without using assembled measurement equipment. The image obtained by this system was analyzed by a devised algorithm, specially designed for the enhanced measurement accuracy. For the realization of the proposed algorithm, the preprocessing method that can be applied to overcome uneven lighting environment, an enhanced edge decision method using 8 edge-pairs with irregular and rough surface, the unit length decision method in uneven condition with rocking objects, and the curvature calibration method of camera using a constructed grid are developed. The experimental results, show that the required measurement accuracy specification is sufficiently satisfied using our proposed method.

  • The purpose of this research is to construct real-time image acquisition system for a line-scan inspection system as a computer vision system. To construct the line-scan inspection system, many problem arise. However, problems of image acquisitions using linear CCD are practically studied in this paper. These problems are concerned to proper lighting systems, relations with handling system, camera systems, and impacts due to the noise of environment. These problems are examined separately, and proper configurations for each case are suggested to construct the line-scan image acquisition system.
