  • A cold & hot rolling coil production line of iron nill consists of a kind of coherent automatic process, but an automatic labelling process still had technical difficulties in the automation of its process. The reason for difficulties in building an automatic process is that quantitative data for each rolled coil from every shipping is not easy to receive from the previous process. it is not possible to apply for a general and simple purpose robot that is actually worked through a taught position to the process because the size and direction of the coi1 has differed on every shipping. From these reasons. we introduce a robot vision system to accept an expected variable situation and to ensure the stability and flexibility of the process. This paper examines a study applied for similar cases and finds the position and direction of relied coil using the moment invariant algorithm proposed by Hu. In addition. the camera calibration and position error compensation algorithm is applied by the analysis of the relationship of transition in a space coordinate system. The construction of a robot vision system proposed by this paper is a more intellectual system than that of the automatic labelling system. which is already used to the Daihen steel nill of NEW JAPAN steel mill co. Ltd in Japan, and shows a better independent operation in the field of production.

  • Evaluation of radiating radiofrequency fields from hand-held and body-mounted wireless communication devices to human bodies are conducted by measuring the specific absorption rate (SAR). The uncertainty of system validation and probe calibration in SAR measurement depend on the variation of RF power used for the validation and calibration. RF input power for system validation or probe calibration is controlled manually during the test process of the existing systems in the laboratories. Consequently, a long time is required to reach the stable power needed for testing that will cause less uncertainty. The standard uncertainty due to this power drift is typically 2.89%, which can be obtained by applying IEC 62209 in a normal operating condition. The principle of the Automatic Input Power Level Control System (AIPLC), which controls the equipment by a program that maintains a stable input power level, is suggested in this paper. The power drift is reduced to less than ${\pm}1.16dB$ by AIPLC, which reduces the standard uncertainty of power drift to 0.67%.

  • The SWMM (storm water management model) has been widely used in the world and is a watershed runoff simulation model used for a single event or a continuous simulation of runoff quantity and quality. However, there are many uncertain parameters in the watershed runoff continuous simulation module and the water quality module, which make it difficult to use the SWMM. The purpose of the study is to develop an automatic calibration module of the SWMM not only for watershed runoff continuous simulation, but also water quality simulation. The automatic calibration module was developed by linking the SWMM with the SCE-UA (shuffled complex evolution-University of Arizona) that is a global optimization algorithm. Estimation parameters of the SWMM were selected and search ranges of them were reasonably configured. The module was validated by calibration and verification of the watershed runoff continuous simulation model and the water quality model for the Donghyang Stage Station Basin. The calibration results for watershed runoff continuous simulation model were excellent and those for water quality simulation model were generally satisfactory. The module could be used in various studies and designs for watershed runoff and water quality analyses.

  • This paper presents a low-power, wide tuning range VCO with automatic two-step negative-Gm calibration loop to compensate for the process, voltage and temperature variation. To cover the wide tuning range, digital automatic negative-Gm tuning loop and analog automatic amplitude calibration loop are used. Adaptive body biasing (ABB) technique is also adopted to minimize the power consumption by lowering the threshold voltage of transistors in the negative-Gm core. The power consumption is 2 mA to 6mA from a 1.2 V supply. The VCO tuning range is 2.65 GHz, from 2.35 GHz to 5 GHz. And the phase noise is -117 dBc/Hz at the 1 MHz offset when the center frequency is 3.2 GHz.

  • This paper presents an intelligent pattern matching method that can be used to acquire the reliable calibration data for automatic PCB pattern inspection. The inaccurate calibration data is often acquired by geometric pattern variations and selecting an inappropriate model manual. It makes low the confidence of inspection and also the inspection processing time has been delayed. In this paper, the geometric features of PCB patterns are utilized to calculate the accurate calibration data. An appropriate model is selected automatically based on the geometric features, and then the calibration data to be invariant to the geometric variations(translation, rotation, scaling) is calculated. The method can save the inspection time unnecessary by eliminating the need for manual model selection. As the result, it makes a fast, accurate and reliable inspection of PCB patterns.

  • This study was carried out to develop an automatic mixing system of nutrient solution for closed-loop hydroponics using ion electrodes. The results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. It appeared that ion-electrodes had not to be soaked into nutrient solution for a long time since it was much less durable than EC or PH sensors. Once ion-electrodes were soaked into real nutrient solution for a long time, they became unstable. 2. ion measurement modules, which were able to sample recirculated nutrient solution and easily wash and dry ion-electrodes, were developed in order to use ion-electrodes continuously. 3. The results of calibration tests on three kinds of ion electrodes presented that the time required to read measurement data was over 30 seconds. Using the calibration data the regression equations for the ion electrodes were developed. 4. An automatic nutrient-solution mixing system using the three kinds of ion electrodes was developed and then its accuracy was examined. The control errors of the mixing system using ion electrodes were in the range of 9.8 to 12%.

  • Information technology has enabled mass standards calibration to be performed through internet. For this, an automatic weight handler was manufactured. During the operation the images of weight operation and the system are provided via the measurement system and a web server. The measurement system consists of a balance, a weight handler, instruments for environment measurement and a PC. The weight handler automatically loads and unloads weights on and from the weighing pan. The weight handler allows 6 series weights to be operated for weight calibration of 100-50-20-20-10-10 gram series weight. This capability could be used for "remote training" for series weight calibration.

  • Calibration of Engine models is a painstaking process but very important for successful application to automotive industry problems. A combined heuristic and machine learning approach has therefore been adopted to improve the efficiency of model calibration. We developed an intelligent calibration program called ICALIB. It has been used on a daily basis for engine model applications, and has reduced the time required for model calibrations from many hours to a few minutes on average. In this paper, we describe the heuristic control strategies employed in ICALIB such as a hill-climbing search based on a state distance estimation function, incremental problem solution refinement by using a dynamic tolerance window, and calibration target parameter ordering for guiding the search. In addition, we present the application of amachine learning program called GID3*for automatic acquisition of heuristic rules for ordering target parameters.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the errors of the built - in dose area product and the calibrated moving dose area product when using automatic exposure controller of the interventional equipment. And then, the importance of the dosimeter calibration and the necessity of the calibration guideline were investigated. The experimental method was to assemble the phantom into Thin, Normal, and Heavy Adult according to the NEMA Phantom manual and to measure the dose area with the built-in dose area product and the moving dose area product. As a result, in all thicknesses, the built-in dose area product showed higher doses than the moving dose area product, and the thicker the thickness, the larger the difference. In addition, paired t-test was performed for each item and there was a significant difference in each item between p<0.05. In conclusion, considering the intervention which is highly exposed to the radiation exposure, it is that we have to know the accurate dose when using the AEC of the equipment. And there is no calibration guide for the built-in dose area meter, thus calibration guidelines should be prepared.
