  • In this paper, we propose an auto-tuning control algorithm for a mobile robot. This controller consists of a three layer neural networks and a PID controller. In order to compensate for uncertainties from unknown dynamics and ignored dynamic effects such as slip conditions, neural network based position schemes are proposed. The results of simulations show the validity of proposed method. This controller learns quickly the model and has good position control performance.

  • The idea of expert control is to incorporate a rule based expert system in a feedback control system. In this paper, we present some heuristic rules based on relay experiment for the choice of controller structure and the setting of the controller parameters. Heuristic rules are used as an element of the feedback loop in an auto-tuning PID controller. The algorithms are coded in a form which is as pure as possible and the heuristic logic is implemented with the rules. This paper reports an implementation of an expert controller on microcomputer-based system, including an industrial programmable controller.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new PID tuning algorithm by the fuzzy set theory to improve the performance of the PID controller. The new tuning algorithm for the PID controller has the initial value of parameter Kc, $\tau$I, $\tau$D by the Ziegler-Nichols formula using the ultimate gain and ultimate period from a relay tuning experiment. We get error and error change of plant output correspond to the initial value and new proportion gain(Kc) and integral time($\tau$I) from fuzzy tunner. This fuzzy tuning algorithm for PID controller considerably reduced overshoot and rise time compare to any other PID controller tuning algorithms. In real parametric uncertainty systems, the PID controller with Fuzzy auto-tuning give appreciable improvement in the performance. The significant properties of this algorithm is shown by simulation In this paper, we proposed a new PID algorithm by the fuzzy set theory to improve the performance of the PID controller.

  • Sliding mode control(SMC) are carried out in this literature. And to make the controllers perform better, fuzzy logic was chosen,it makes PID controller auto-tuning parameters and reduced the chattering problem of sliding mode control. Since SMC take error and derivative of error as inputs, after comparison some results are obtained.PID controller response faster yet sliding mode control is much steadier. However certain problems cannot be ignored that the chattering phenomenal cannot be reduced entirely and this motion may hurt the machine; this project only considered a simple system, there is no guarantee PID can work as well as in this case for a much more complex system. MATLAB simulink was the main approach to obtain the performance of the two controllers: to observe the control output of the two controllers, electric circuit and special controllers are designed and tested in MATLAB.

  • Proportional solenoid valves are a modulating type that can control the displacement of valves continuously by means of electromagnetic forces proportional to the solenoid coil current. Because the solenoid-type modulating valves have the advantages of fast response and compact design over air-operated or motor-operated valves, they have been gaining acceptance in chemical and power plants to control the flow of fluids such as water, steam, and gas. This paper deals with the auto tuning of the position controller that can provide the proportional and integral gain automatically based on the dynamic system identification. The process characteristics of the solenoid valve are estimated with critical gain and critical period at a stability limit based on implemented relay feedback, and the controller parameters are determined by the classical Ziegler-Nichols design method. The auto-tuning algorithm was verified with experiments, and the effects of the operating point at which the relay control is activated as well as the relay amplitude were investigated.

  • Sliding mode control guarantees robustness in the presence of modeling uncertainties and external disturbances. However, this can be obtained at the cost of high control activity that may lead to chattering As one way to alleviate this problem a boundary layer around sliding surface is typically used. In this case the selection of controller gain, control ban width and boundary layer thickness is a crucial problem for the trade-off between tracking error and chattering. The parameter tuning is usually done by trail-and-error in practice causing significant effort and time. An auto tuning method based on fuzzy rules is proposed in the paper in this method tracking error and chattering are monitored by performance indices and the controller tunes the design parameters intelligently in order to compromise both indices. To demonstrate the efficiency of the propose method a mass-spring translation system and a roboic control system are simulated and tested It is shown that the proposed algorithm is effective to facilitae the parameter tuning for sliding mode controllers.

  • Controller refinement scheme to improve the performance of a conventional system automatically in frequency domain is proposed. The controller automatic tuning method features using experimental frequency responses of the conventional closed-loop system, the conventional controller, and the improved closed-loop system, instead of poorly modeled plant due to non-linearities and disturbances. The improved closed-loop system characteristics is automatically acquired by the con-ventional closed-loop system characteristics and the proposed performance index in system bandwidth. And the proper controller is realized by least squares approximation in frequency domain. To testify the usefulness of the approach, the path tracking control of robot arm is performed. Experimental results and analytic results are well-matched.

  • Vibration is one of the factors that degrades the performance of equipment and measurement equipment used in high-tech industries such as semiconductors and display. The vibration isolator is classified into passive type and active type. The passive vibration isolator has the weakness of insufficient vibration isolation performance in the low frequency band, so an active vibration control system that can overcome these problems is used recently. In this paper, PID controller is used to control the active vibration isolator. Methods for setting the gain of the PID controller include the Zeigler-Nichols method, the pole placement method. These methods have the disadvantage of requiring a lot of time or knowing the system model accurately. This paper proposes the gain auto tuning method of the active vibration isolator applied with the PSO algorithm, which is an optimization algorithm that is easy to implement and has stable convergence performance with low calculations. It is expected that it will be possible to improve vibration isolation performance and reduce the time required for gain tuning by applying the proposed PSO algorithm to the active vibration isolator.

  • In this paper, a new auto-tuning PI controller for the speed servo system of a PMSM is designed by using limited step response characteristics. The method is proposed that gets information about auto-tuning of PI regulator by the injection of step input, called limited input, during a transient response time of control. System parameter estimation and speed control could be continuously executed. This means that in despite of system uncertainty the system information obtained by limited input can be continuously applied to the PI regulator. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed auto-tuning algorithm through simulation and experiment result of the speed control for a PMSM having monotone increasing step response.
