Batch ion exchange experiments of Au(III) were performed from ammonium chloride solution by employing strong anionic exchange resins (Amberlite IRA 402 and AG 1-X8). Au(III) was well loaded into the two resins and the loading behavior of Au(III) into AG 1-X8 was superior to that into Amberlite IRA 402. The loading of Au(III) into AG 1-X8 followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the experimentally determined loading capacity was 355 mg/g. Au(III) was successfully eluted by $HClO_4$ from the loaded AG 1-X8 and the elution percentage of Au(III) increased with the concentration of $HClO_4$.
Basic studies for the effective extraction of dibenzylammonium dibenzyldithiocarbamate(DBADBDC) complexes of Ag(I), Pd(II), Au(III) and Pt(IV) into chloroform have been conducted. The effects of pH on the extraction of ligand itself and metal cemplexes showed that DBADBDC itself was uniformly extracted in the pH range of 2~9 and metal complexes were effectively extracted at the pH range as follows. That is, Ag(I) : in an acidic aqua medium, Pd(II) : > 4, Au(III) : wide range, and Pt(IV) : > 3. The distribution ratio and extractabilities were obtained from the partition and extraction equilibria of metal-DBDC complexes between aqueous solution and chloroform. Ag(I) : log D=4.226 : E(%)=99.9% in the aqueous solution of pH 0, Pd(II) : log D=1.804 : E(%)=98.5% at pH 4~7, Au(III) : log D=3.755 : E(%)=99.9% at pH 2~10, and Pt(IV) : log D=0.165 : E(%)=57.2% at pH 8.0. And also mole ratio of metal ion to ligand in complexes were determined by mole ratio method : 1 : 1 for Ag(I) and 1 : 2 for Pd(II), Au(III) and Pt(IV). $Cl^-$ was included as a coordination species in complexes of Au(III) and Pt(IV). Besides, extraction mechanisms of compleses sere examined in the presence of chloride ion in an aquous solution, and extraction reactions and estraction constants could be proposed and calculated, respectively.
Most of the gold (-silver) vein deposits at Yeongdong District are mainly distributed in the precambrian metamorphic rocks. Based on the Ag/Au total production and ore grade ratios, the chemical composition of electrum and the associated sulfides, the gold(-silver) deposits at Yeongdong District may be classified into 4 classes: pyrrhotite - type gold deposits( I), pyrite - type gold deposits (IT A; massive vein), pyrite - type gold deposits (II B; nonmassive vein) and argentite - type gold - silver deposits(III). The chemical study on electrum(including native gold) revealed that Au content (2.8 to 92.4 atomic%) of electrums varies very widely for different classes of deposits. The Au content of electrum associated with pyrrhotite (Class I), ranging from 47.1 to 92.4 atomic% Au, is clearly higher than that associated with pyrite (Classes IIA, IIB and III). In contrast, classes I, II, and III deposits do not show clear differences in Au content of electrum. In general, pyrrhotite - type gold deposits(I) are characterized by features such as simply massive vein morphology, low values in the Ag/Au total production and ore grade ratios, the absence or rarity of silver - bearing minerals except electrum, and distinctively simple mineralogy. Although the geological and mineralogical features and vein morphology of pyrite - type gold deposits(IIA)are very similar to those of pyrrhotite - type gold deposits (I), Class II A deposits reveal significant differences in the associated iron sulfide (i. e. pyrite) with electrum and Au content of electrum. The Ag/Au total production and ore grade ratios from Class II A deposits are relatively slightly higher than those from Class I deposits. Pyrite - type gold deposits(II B) and argentite - type gold - silver deposits (III) have many common features; complex vein morphology, medium to high values in the Ag/Au total production and ore grade ratios and the associated iron sulfide (i. e. pyrite). In contrast to Class II B deposits, Class III deposits have significantly high Ag/Au total production and ore grade ratios. It indicates distinct difference in the abundance of silver minerals (i. e. native silver and argentite). The fluid inclusion analyses and mineralogical data of electrum tarnish method indicate that the gold mineralization of Classes I and II A deposits was deposited at temperatures between $230^{\circ}$ and $370^{\circ}C$, whereas the gold (-silver) mineralization of Classes ITB and ill formed from the temperature range of $150^{\circ}-290^{\circ}C$. Therefore, Classes I and IT A deposits have been formed at higher temperature condition and/or deeper positions than Classes IIB and III.

Au fine particles dispersed $TiO_{2}$ film was prepared on silica glass substrate by sol-gel dipping and firing process. The $TiO_{2}$ films were fabricated from the system of titanium tetraisopropoxide-EtOH-HCl-$H_{2}O$-hydrogen tetrachloroaurat (III) tetrahydrate. The conditions for the formation of clear solution and dissolving high concentration of Au compound were examined. Photoreduction process was adopted to control the size of gold metal particles. Phase evolution of matrix $TiO_{2}$ and variation of Au particle with UV irradiation were investigated by XRD, SEM, TEM and UV-visible spectrophotometer. The effect of CPCl (Cetylpyridinium chloride monohydrate) as a dispersion agent was evaluated.
Complexes composed of hydrogen tetrachloroaurate (III) trihydrate ($HAuCl_4{\cdot}3H_2O$) and DNA were first formed for the synthesis of gold nanoparticle using a DNA template, which were validated using UV-Vis spectroscopy. The morphology of complexes were also characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). DNA-mediated gold nanoparticles were synthesized by the chemical reduction of DNA-Au(III) complexes using hydrazine ($N_2H_4$) and sodium borohydride ($NaBH_4$) as reducing agents. The effects of reducing agent types and their concentration on the formation of gold nanoparticles were investigated. The results showed that hydarazine was the most effective for the reduction of DNA-Au(III) complex. The DNA-mediated gold nanoparticles were characterized SEM, particle size analyzer (PSA), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Gold nanoparticles with 55~80 nm in diameter were formed by the aggregation of smaller gold nanoparticles (~nm), which was confirmed in the DNA matrix.

Diphosphine dinuclear gold(I) complexes were synthesized from the reaction of bridged diphosphines and gold ions. As a bridged diphosphine, 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)metbane (dppm) or 1,1'-Bis(diphenylphosphino) ferrocene (dppf) was introduced. As anionic ligands, CI was first coordinated to Au, resulting in (diphosphine)$(AuCl)_{2}$. Then, the ligand, SPh, was substituted for Cl in the chloride complex to give (diphosphine)$(AuSPh)_{2}$. As a result, three digold complexes, (dppm)$(AuCl)_{2}$. (I), (dppf)$(AuCl)_{2}$. (II), and (dppf)$(AuSPh_{2}$. (III) were prepared in this study. The thermal properties were investigated at first hand to confirm that the gold complexes were in fact formed. The digold complexes were decomposed above $200^{\circ}C$ while the ligand, dppm or dppf, melts under $180^{\circ}C$ The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the spin-coated thin films showed the maximum peak at 590, 595, and 540nm for the complex, I, II, and III, respectively. These complexes were found to give the orange color phosphorescence. Therefore, these digold complexes can be candidates for orange-red phosphorescent materials in organic electroluminescent devices (OELD). Further studies on application of the complexes as a dopant in an emitting layer are in progress in our laboratory.
The present paper is focused on simultaneous sorption concentration of gold (III) and silver (I) from thiocyanate solutions using high-selective anion exchanger AN-25 and subsequent separation of these ions at various concentrations of thiocarbamide (eluent). As a result, silver (I) ions are completely eluted from AN-25 and gold (III) ions remain in the resin phase and can be determined directly in the solid phase by diffuse reflection spectroscopy. It is proposed to use the sorption-spectroscopic method for Au(III) determination in aqueous solutions. The calibration curve is linear in the concentration range of 1-19 mg/L (sample volume is 10.0 mL) and the detection limit is 0.05 ${\mu}g/mL$. The presence of Cu(II), Co(II), Fe(II) do not hinder this determination. Au(III) was determined in industrial solutions.
A solid state Hg(Au)/HgO reference electrode was prepared utilizing gold amalgam solid particles. Solid fine powder of the gold amalgam was prepared by chemical reduction of Au(III) with NaBH4 followed by reduction of Hg(II) in the presence of gold fine particles. The solid content in the suspension of the gold amalgam particles and fine mercury oxide particles in DMF containing PVC was precipitated by the addition of a large amount of water to give solid Hg(Au)/HgO/PVC mixture. After drying, the mixture was pressure-molded to a physically stable Hg(Au)/HgO composite reference electrode material. The electrochemical characteristics of the electrode as a reference electrode were very similar to an ordinary Hg/HgO reference electrode. The electrode material can be molded and fabricated in any desired shape and size. The surface can be renewed by a simple polishing process whenever contaminated or deactivated. The applicability of the electrode in the electrochemical detection of carbohydrates after anion exchange separation was evaluated.
